I always thought this song was called "Soup Smoke" as it was given to me on a mix tape with dodgy writing. Maybe they'll record a part two and call it soup smoke...A
My brain just melted through my ears...what a band. Many so-called Stoner bands should listen , weep and maybe learn a few tricks.Too sad they are on hiatus for so long.Well,we still have Howlin Rain ....
ben chasny is the shit. i listen to comets on fire and six organs of admittance whenever im: longboarding, making tie dye stuff, on my way to surfing (not so much here in colorado but back in california!) and just for groovin! chasny's solo projects and group projects are out of this world! stay mellow yellow fellow
Noise rock? Proto-garage-punk-blah blah blah you say? Who cares, it's COF. This song in particular reminds me of Can, but that's the only comparison I'll say.
whoever comes on here to debate what genre or category these guys belong to is a musical facist and should learn to shut the fuck up and listen to the songs they like.
@MattarPaneer If you say to Salvador Dali that his art isn't surrealism but constructivsm, he will punch to in the face while you are eating pillows and cry for your little sister
@Zonneknevel Andre Breton did kick dali out of the surrealist movement because he was basically an art whore. He would sign hundreds of blank sheets of paper and sell them to printers to make their own dali prints. Nowadays dali's limited edition prints/sculptures aren't worth shit because of this. His work is definitely surrealist though.
I am by no means a fan of Comets on Fire. They're far too experimental, unstructured, and just plain grating most of the time for a stoner/psychedelic rock fan like me. This song, however, is absolutely epic and amazing. I've been listening to it on repeat several times through this past week.
Trouble is, I can't find any other songs of their's like Sour Smoke. Someone in the know: are there any other songs similar to Sour Smoke?
@TigersWrath give jaybird a try if you haven't yet. It's off the same album, and someone put the studio version up recently. I'm trying to find more songs off the album to help me judge if I should get it. That was the song that got me listening in the first place.
This is the only song off Avatar I don't like. It just sounds like the sound track to Conan the Barbarian or something. Can't you just see Conan riding across a rocky desert landscape?
No, I can't. Whatsoever. It's actually quite surprising that you have Conan the Barbarian imagery in your head while hearing this. Really weird connection. Lol. Maybe it's the tribal drum beat...
This is actually one of my faves from Avatar, so maybe I just refuse to see the blatant Conan imagery, lol.
this seems like a totally new genre of rock, its pretty cool but its so different. have any ideas or advice on how to find any new or developing genres of rock? cause if no one has noticed, music hasn't changed much in the past 10 years lol
What is the point of this song? I heard this band was good but I skip around the song and it seems like I'm in the same spot. It's 9 minutes of the same.
No, I like the music. I think it's good music, I just don't see the point in making the song close to 9 minutes long when it really doesn't change at all throughout the course. I just don't think it makes sense.
Add on; i'm not going to a Jimmy Buffet concert bro,. get in shape and have a sick sense of style. You don't want a Queer guy for our straight eye. do you? no blazzers with patches please. right? you're better than that.
comets on fire and tame impala are my favourite.

to all the idiots who are trying to classify this sound: its noise rock. its supposed to be genre-less. And in my opinion its kinda boring.

I'm going to say they're experimental rock.
The instrumental effects give off a 60's feel.
So...technically any sort of new age band giving a time sig would be categorized as experimental rock.
Do you think they would branch off that subgenre into another?
