Free thought? I am in the US Army and we follow orders. We dont desert and speak up publicly against the commander in Chief. We are specifically told to keep our comments to ourselves if we dont like it. Cause doing what he is doing feeds enemy propoganda and it lowers the moral of men which gets our soldiers killed. If he did this during WW2 he would have been shot for treason.

if we are ordered to kill inncent people, then there is a clause in the geneva convention that we are allowed to disobey that order. And we arent allowed to fire unless fire upon. And we arent allowed to use to much force. Meaning if they attack us with AK-47s, we are only allowed to use M-16s, we cant use 50 cals, and if we are fighting in the city, we cant call in a B-52 bomber to bomb the enemy. so if they get shot then they deserve it.

Plus most of the civilians getting killed are getting killed other Iraqis. When the troops pull out, the entire country will be consumed in a civil war. The Americans and British being there is keeping the peace. Remember, the Shiites Kerds and Sunnis came together and asked us to keep our soldiers there.
