  • Freakin awesome

  • #18 is the only surviving locomotive of the long gone Boyne City, Gaylord, and Alpena railroad that operated in the northern lower penninsula of Michigan in the 20's and 30's. Not a single piece of the railbed is left, as it is all developed now.

  • june 27 was my birthday ;)

  • that is the smallest 2-8-0 ive ever seen and why is the tender slightly tilted twards the locomotive

  • @shininghappyperson7 It is very small compared to monster 2-8-0s like SOU 630, or an ex-Army 2-8-0, but #18 is extremely typical of an average shortline engine of the '20. She is light enough for the flimsy track, but powerful enough for the grades. As for the tender, I honestley have no idea...

  • @shininghappyperson7 the original rear truck for the tender is broken and they have had a caboose truck on the back of the tender for the longest time obviously that caboose truck is a little too tall :P

  • @HobbyTeen15 hahahaaha o thats why,if u wana see a big 2-8-0 D&H had some of the largest ones not the camble backs but there traditional 2-8-0s are huge!

  • I found the train pretty cool but the rail yard was a mess, parking was very hard to find. My family an I road in the open car and found the soot overwhelming at times

  • @katelo1234 Welcome to real railroads, the soot is going to be a guarantee if you sat in an open car. I find it part of the experience to get a little soot on you, part of the point in going.

  • this is beutiful sound and fotage!

  • is this narrow gauge?

  • No, all equitment is standard gauge

  • Super Great filming you did a great job, its very good, i really like it at 8:18 when the train is out in that open pasture, its beautiful!!! again great job!!!

  • 5:10 #2 not working?

  • Very nice footage. For those new to this line, they've been running this line freight and passenger for more than 100 years. The 2-8-0 is their own legacy equipment.

  • Beautiful footage

  • When did they paint the passenger cars a dark green? I always remember them being orange.

  • I've been told the railroad is undergoing a remake in keeping with a 'Roaring 20's' theme they intend to go with. Also, there was talk of the train making an appearance in a movie.

  • and is the Arcade and Attica gonna restore 14 in the future

  • They'd love to restore 14, but the price tag is astronomical...in the area of $2,000,000.00. And they just dropped $1.5 million a couple of years ago to restore No. 18. So I imagine it will be a while, if ever.

  • What a spectacular video. One of the best tourist railroad clips I've ever seen, and certainly the best I've seen of this railroad.

The 0-4-0 is cute, but it's the other locomotive that steals the show, the 2-8-0. Very majestic. And her bell has a very haunting ring to it. Very unique. Gorgeous countryside. Marvelous railroad. Thank you for posting this!

  • UGH I can't believe I missed this!! I love only an hour away!!

  • I can't beleive that I missed this. I rode it memorial day weekend and the conductor said railfan weekend was going to be posted on the website and it never was on there. and I thought #14 would doublehead.

  • Used to ride this every year... glad to see it running strong, nice video....
