I too love this song, but I cannot imagine singing it if I did not truly believe every word of it. I strongly encourage you to spend some time looking into His word, for we all will come across hard times, but it is the moments when we don't think we need Him that we are most desperate for His power. Jesus is not only with us during times of struggle, but every second of every day of your life.

@KingMojjo I think you are taking the verse out of context. It is the very thing that you are doing here that will stop God hearing your prayers. In context he was addressing the people for not being sincere in their religion. A person's religion should be reflected in the life they live. It's how they live, not what is believed that matters.

I don't think the major focus is if you cuss or not but if you have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. That is the most important thing of all! Actually, you'd do better to let everyone know that you attend NOT a Catholic school, but one run by the Vatican II Sect, that accursed spawn of the invalid Robber Council that dares to call itself "Catholic". They're no more Catholic than the Dali Lama. You've probably been taught everything BUT the Catholic religion, since the V-II Sect considers all religions as equally valid. The fact is, only the Catholic faith is true. Suggest you find a TRADITIONAL Catholic school to attend.

@ephenderson - That is a nice and lovely belief - But it is not the teaching of the Holy Bible- as the Bible teaches only those who are Born-again and have the witness of the Spirit can call God Abba (Romans 8) Jesus taught the Jews that if they did not belive in Him God was not their Father John 8:44 - 46 - PLus God will not listen to all prayers - Isaiah 1 v 15

@KingMojjo I think you are taking the verse out of context. It is the very thing that you are doing here that will stop God hearing your prayers. In context he was addressing the people for not being sincere in their religion. A person's religion should be reflected in the life they live. It's how they live, not what is believed that matters.

@59joeb - The verse is grounded in its context- and Jesus was addressing Jews who did not believe in Him- The Jews who did not believe in HIm - he said they were of the Devil - Not my words but the words of Christ- the context sets this teaching

I don't think they're going to hell just because their beliefs are different from mine.. I mean we both believe in one God and.. we both try to live good lives.. I think the Bible teaches us that God is merciful. My cousins aren't evil people.. Doesn't He love us all??

@Nicole494fam - The Bible teaches we are to love our enemies (whoever they may be- showing them the love of God- But not at the expense of God;s truth- ) God's truth is not that persons go to hell because they may have a different religion or belief - the Bible teaches people go to Hell because of the sins they have committed, even one single sin would be enough - but who has only committed just one sin anyhow?

Isaiah 64:6-We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. @KingMojjo What I think that verse means is, People make a big deal out of religion and they want everyone to know that "I pray to god! I"m a good person! Look at me!" It should just be more of my prayers to god are my own. God knows I pray to him and it dosn't matter what anyone else thinks. God loves everyone and listens to thier prayers but in my opionion you don't need to make a spectecal of yourself in order to be heard by god...^^;

Eh.. I'm agnostic or something like that, and I sang the bass to this song in my school's Madrigal choir, and still like it. I see and respect all religions as folklores.
Point is, I'm agnostic, and like it solely for its composition, not for any deeper spiritual meaning.
Oh, and this version kind of sucks compared to being sung by an entire choir.
