  • A much better copy with sound in proper sync may be found under BartConway's videos...

  • Jaw-droppingly brilliant animation. Thanks for posting!

  • thank you!

  • i cant believe Len Lye isnt considered one of the greatest artistic geniuses of the 20th century.. this is mindblowing stuff

  • @ChocolateExplosion I think this will get me shot by every avant-garde-film enthusiast in the world, but I feel like much of Len Lye's paint-on-film work is miles above that of Stan Brakhage's.

  • @FidelioRoo It is. Disregard these sorts of film fan's majorities. There's all sorts of token names. Don't let them get to you.

  • @EuropeanAnimation I still love Mothlight and Dante Quartet and Eye Myth and Dog Star Man, but despite Brakhage's desire of a more pure and emotional cinema, Lye achieved it better.

There needs to be a "By Lye" DVD sometime soon, it sucks that the only way to find his stuff seems to be via youtube videos with wonky colours or just pixellated to hell. But at least that's better than nothing.

  • @FidelioRoo I found one DVD online through a search. It's out of print right now. One person claims to be selling a new version on Amazon. I've had one fake video through there before, so I'm skeptical. If you haven't heard of his work already, check out Mirai Mizue.

  • dude invented demos

  • beautiful vid!

  • Just marvelous!

  • nice. it's lye's commercial piece? i think it uses some elements (the curved vertical lines) of 'colour box'.
