  • 太棒了!

  • excellent,his accent is perfect

  • Well, obviously, he's NOT a foreigner. He must have lived in China, and exposed to life there, in his early years.

ASo, people, he may look Western, but inside in his heart, he's Chinese.

That's what it seems to me.

  • 崔永元做过他的节目耶,他太太是上海人,他们在中国开了间搞动漫的公司!

  • Great.:) We should know Shanghai language is most difficult in the world. Haha. Even I can not understand. Because they will not tell you all. :)

  • wow he actually sings it realy well!

i expected him to just memorise some words but he actually knows the intricate singing techniques for this type of opera

  • I never thought that the YueJu would be that beautiful till I heard William's perform. The most beautiful song I've heard recently. Thanks for the post.

  • 这小子肯定是特务

  • I can certain that William can speak Shanghainese better than me and many other Shanghainese. He's a genius.

  • Can anyone tell me some names of older men who sing Chinese opera ? I love how the older men sing this music.

  • OMG! You are so good, William! I think that is your name, right? Wow! I am speechless:)

  • Brave man! That's from " The Wedding Night"- l adore that song!

Thank you for putting it out!

  • is he castrated?????????????

  • Ever heard of falsetto, you ignorant?

  • i am crazy about yueju. I am very shocked that he caould sing so wonderful. Please do not be jealous, you stupid guys. He is very very good!!!!

  • Stop acting so superior that Chinese is so profoundly difficult to learn,or acting so inferior and flattered that a Caucasian can sing Yuequ. We have Chinese sing Italian,German, and French operas etc perfectly too and they still speak Chinese.

  • I have Chinese friends who speak better English than Americans, and I have a White friend who can recite the book of Mathews in Putonghua from memory with perfect Beijing accent. Anyone can speak other language(s) well if one puts in effort.

  • Maybe you should present them to me...;) I studied at Beida, and I never encountered a Chinese who spoke English even at my level, and I am a Swede... ;)

  • 忒牛了吧,这也。。。目瞪口呆中。

  • omg! Very nice voice!

  • Bravo!!!能拿越剧唱得不像老外,还有流派味道,这位米国来的老兄就是牛人啊。Willam,弄节棍额!!!支持支持。

  • excellent.. !太厉害!唱的这么好,赞一下

  • I wonder how most Chinese feel about having a westerner signing a Chinese opera, flattered or taken aback...

  • OMG, he is awesome!!

  • His full name is William Boyd. He's from California!

  • What is his full name in English?

He could be a star on youtube.

    Awesome.

May be you can you can use the title

"A foreigner singing Chinese Opera Perfectly"

    Did he won the contest?

  • Hi,I don't know his full name, I will check and tell u. I can't say he sing perfectly cuz his pronunciation still need to be refined. Anyway, for a foreign friend it's really great! Even Chinese especially from north cannot pronunce correctly or sing so well.

  • Yeah. But already very good. Some Chinese yue opera singer can not sing so well. He is quite good as an amature. Dont even mention he is a foreigner.

  • @zjlzz I hope everyone will not have this "foreign moon is rounder" attitude. While one westerner can speak & sing in Chinese, think about thouands of Asians can speak & sing in fluent English !!

  • @iysum

His name is William Boyd and there are a number of articles about him online. He is married to a Chinese woman and she and her family taught him several Jiangnan-area dialects, which he apparently picked up very quickly. He's quite a talent.

  • He is very , very, very good!

  • This is yueju (越劇) also called Shaoxing opera, from the Zhejiang province of eastern China.

  • I know this is 越劇. Do you know who is this foreign dude? If I only listen to his singing, I would think he is a chinese. He is really good.

  • I don't know who he is. The only reason I added that information in English is because the uploader of this video did not do that. But adding to the video's description in English is very helpful, to allow more people from around the world to easily find the video and know what it is, letting us teach one another about our cultures.

  • Absolutely. My pleasure.

  • I meant for the uploader of the video to do that.

  • Email the uploader.

  • I don't think that's necessary, as the uploader of any YouTube video sees the comments posted to their videos, and also receives emails whenever their video is commented on.

  • Hi,thanks very much for your comment. My english is limited. Please advice me more what to do and how to do it about the titles, subtitles and translations etc. For translation i really need your help:P

  • Maybe you can add some introduction of Yue Opera:

Yue opera is a local Chinese opera popular in the southern regions of the Yangtze River with over 800 years history.

Yue opera is noted for its lyricism and soft tunes. It is considered number 3 most pupular traditional opera in China nowadays, right after Peking Opera and Kun Opera.

  • Wow, who is he? Which program is this? Anyone can help? Thanks.

  • Gee, he is not good, he is excellent..

  • As an american, he really did a great job here. Even most chinese can't sing at that high level.

  • He's quite good actually

  • Nice try, ornamentation needs help. Poor guy, he probably thinks he's good.
