  • our us jim is better

  • the acting is terrible in the UK office

  • uk version is miles funnier aha ....come on its got david brent....he is funny without rely tryin ...americans try 2 hard b liked and funny.........and there all nobs....and there copying so.....cheatin if nethin

  • @dubstepaddiction You sound retarded my friend.

  • Jim and Tim, one right after the other... too much adorableness! :)

  • LOL theyre sooo fuunnnnyy

  • lol its funny but i actually made a system to prove that only retards dont get british humor. no matter where the person was from (even britain), if they were ignorant dumbasses they never got any joke when id play a british movie (snatch) but higher IQ people laughed their asses off. SO YES, IT IS ABOUT BEING SMARTER. and yes there are smart ppl in the usa but mostly not, its not cultural diff. dont believe me? try it!

  • Not everyone have the same taste of humor douche. I'm not from he usa or uk, and i like shows from both countries, however i found the US office lots better than UK version. You can't say UK humour is just for smarter people, cause that's bullshit.

The only intelligent and good shows from UK i can come up with is blackadder and fawlty towers. In usa i would say the intelligent shows are south park and the office.

  • I don't mean to offend anyone, and I aren't saying that Americans are stupid, but I get the impression that in the US the humour tends to be a little more, well, obvious, as if a great big flashing light appears and demands you laugh.

I think my friend was being a little harsh when he described The American Office as 'slapstick masquerading as intelligent comedy', but I can see where he's coming from.

And Ricky Gervais actually said that he tried to avoid putting obvious jokes (gags) in there.

  • I'm from Spain and I usually watch American series more but honestly, the British original version of "The office" is just so much better. It's difficult to explain, but the acting is more clever, everything is more organic and way more subtle. Just so much better. And Ricky Gervais... the American guy is not bad, but can't compare to Gervais at all. Just can't compare. No contest.

  • Why is it that I think the US verison is funnier when they're exactly the same?? ... The accent, maybe? Idk. It's crazy seeing them compared like this though.

  • the american jim kicks ass.

  • @1995Froggy not to mention dwight :)

  • @SheepNorway Well, of course:)

  • Brent is superior. Nuff said. Sorry, but the US office, to me at least, always seems like its trying to spell out everything for the view, whereas the original sticks with subtle humour that you miss the first time you see it, but catch after rewatching.

  • @TheRandyChimp what a great show. you have to watch every episode twice to laugh. us ftw

  • @SheepNorway Sorry, didn't realise you had such a short attention span that you never want to watch the same thing more than once. EVER.

I didn't mean it like that, there are up front jokes, but there are subtle ones that you catch on your second viewing that make you laugh for ages. The US one tries too hard. Oh, and fuck you, the British ones the original, if it werent for Gervais, the US wouldnt even have its crappy knock-off!

  • Being Australian, I 'get' US AND UK humour, but I have to say, the US kicks the UK versions ass.

  • the UK version is horrible!

  • I have nothing against US humour, in fact, i love shows like The Simpsons, but if the Americans are going to copy a famous show, why make the exact same joke as in the original version? Obvioulsy, the American are trying to show the UK and the world that "we can make a funny version," and thats absoultely fine, but i do wish that they came up with some new ideas.

But hey, this is only a few moments, im sure the American version doesnt do this for its whole show. I'm sure they do it differently.

  • I like them both. Why can't everyone just be me. I think Hitler once said that.

  • okay im sorry i have nothing against the u.k version but i think the u,s version is so much better sorry

  • WAKE UP PEOPLE!! the only reason why the uk version became a success is becuase it only ran for 2 seasons and the less eposides the more possibilty its great! the uk version didnt want to mess up thier reputation, thats why they stoped!

  • @trickster43va ricky gervais created both, so in essense, uk is both versions

  • Just because someone doesn't find your brand of comedy amusing, it in no way means that the person, or the culture they represent, is ignorant or "too dumb" to understand. To state so makes you come off as insecure, as though you're just attempting to make excuses for why your brand of humor isn't funny. And really, British humor is hilarious enough that it should be able to stand alone without all of this foolishness.

  • I find it funny that the British people on this comment section who claim to be more sophisticated and witty than Americans, are the exact ones who are quick to become childish, immature, and unnecessarily rude when someone doesn't agree with them. It's largely the British who are resorting to name-calling in here, not the Americans. And no one likes a hypocrite.

  • actually the people that made the original are the ones that made the american version too, so ethier way they going to do ,

  • This is bizarre. They're SO different now compared to this.

  • @Flophole I had planned on making an updated version, I just haven't gotten around to it.

  • I do think the U.K. version has done something the U.S. version never could.

it made the Boss look so real, that when u saw his performance, it made u cringe.

    and thats why its funny

  • id go with the u.k. version for the better choice, btw i am from the u.s.

but i know the acting in the british version is by far more realistic, because some people thought it was an actual documentary.

and fans of the U.S. Office must not forget, without the original it wouldnt exsist

  • @HashishUno you're probably not from america

  • people say that we have to understand the british language but honestly the ameircan version is seen more in other countries than the british version, also the american version became more of a success than the britich one. americans are far the best actors in the world. the britich version takes it at a fast pace.a person that is not an american or english, i promise u that they will choose the american version.dats why people look for american movies and shows cuz we have a sense of humor

  • ive watched every episode of the office us but i dont laugh at stuff because im weird and i dont laugh at tv,movies but i laugh at jokes when pple say it in front of me. and i laugh only at physical comedy on tv its not that i have no sense of humor i am quite the jokester myself.but i watched this one clip of the office uk and laughed the hardest i ever laughed in my life

  • The U.S Office just took all of the characters from the U.K Office and made them 10 times funnier and gave them 10 times more personality. The U.S Office is just on another level!!!

  • @themma95 Honestly I think both are amazing, I've seen all 6 series of the american and all of the uk one. I think that the U.K. is better at what it was meant to achieve - brutally realistic mockumentary, and it's fucking hilarious for it. Though i do think the american one is a better sit-com, but less funny for it.

  • I think steve carell makes the whole US version. without him it just wouldnt be the same

  • it is probably because I am from America, but I personally prefer the US version better. Part of the reason is that I have a hard time understanding the accents on the UK version, but it is pretty funny. I respect it, and I think it is a great show, and it led to the US version, which is one of my favorite shows. just my opinion though.

  • People are programmed to only look for the differences in things. They are both great show.

  • Look i like them both. They're produced by the same people and have very similar humors to them. Yes British humor has more intellect to it but that's not to say that American Comedy is for ignorant know nothings. Its just meant for everyone to understand and appreciate and if you cant...well that's to bad.

  • i like the theme for the us more than the u k's

  • both are funny but the us is better and its still on about to be in season 7

  • People really dont seem to understand something very, very important. Just because you like one show, doesnt mean that the other one is the "enemy." I think both shows are very funny, but they are different.

  • The UK one is so much better

Dwight is so much worse than Gareth

Americean Comedy is written for the retarded public in America

British Comedy is far more subtle and intelligent

  • @Corklegends I'm not American, but US acting is far better by comparison, but they did steal many lines from Brittan undoubtedly.

  • @xbrand0n1x O M G how bad is the acting in the US version? + it's just a remake really. pathetic. US

  • @Lvn369 the actors are amazing look at the uk actors u can barely understand those fags

  • @xbrand0n1x same producers so can you call it stealing when it is your own ideas?

  • @Corklegends ok first off you spelled American wrong and second the US version is written and produced mostly by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who if you did not know also wrote and produced most of the UK version as well.

  • @Corklegends talk about being ignorant. why don't you settle down, and take it easy, they are just shows. Clearly you are not open minded enough to handle the internet, so just get of it.

  • @Corklegends gareth is a loser dwight is so much funnier and cooler

  • @SweetSonata99 ricky decided to stop after 2 seasons, it wasent cancelled.

  • usa version!

  • Both are great but I prefer the American version, Dwight' is just hilarious.

  • i love both the offices and could never put one infront of the other there both just so perfect

  • yeah yeah our cultures are different... i still think US version is better!

  • Might sound a little cliche, but the people who think the american version is better simply dont get the UK version. It's not because they're stupid, it's because of cultural differences and references, our humour is definately different, they are individual shows because of this difference.

  • @jazz4 I have to agree with you. Even though I'm an American who watches a lot of Doctor Who, Primeval, etc., I never really understand the British COMEDY shows. (Except some of the Catherine Tate's sketches, but I honestly don't know who would NOT think she's hilarious!!) It must be the differences of culture.

  • @jazz4 I agree, I watched both versions. (only the first episode of the UK version) and for the life of me I couldn't understand what people were saying. The jokes were virtually the same, I just couldn't understand the slang. it's weird that there is a language barrier, because it's the same language... I'm Canadian though. British education, and I still can't make sense of it.

both are good I'm sure. i just don't understand the UK version.

  • @jazz4 Yeah I totally agree. You really have to understand the British language and the British humor in order to get it. And unless you spend the time trying to do that (which most Americans don't and honestly would have no reason to) you will not get the Office U.K.......

[side note it's not that American English sounds different than British English it is that they are two different languages...seriously]

  • @jazz4 i agree that our humor completely different,

  • @jazz4 Totally true! There's a difference between American and UK humor. Just like Monty Python and SNL. Both funny but completely different humor. But i still find both hilarious!

  • @jazz4 so if people like the us version better, it's not because it is, but because of cultural differences? too many of todays UK shows are shit. yes i said it :)

the old ones like blackadder, fawlty towers, mr.bean and some monty python i guess were and are the best the UK have ever made period.

However, US has a big bunch of shit shows like dharma and greg and 3rd rock from the sun.

The best two american shows for me has to be the big bang theory, the office, southpark etc

    Feel free to correct

  • @SheepNorway You're free to think that the US version somehow managed to do it better, I guess that's your opinion. But it is different comedy, the UK version is all on it's own in terms of types of character, setting, references. The fact it is set in Slough, for example is only funny to people who know where slough is in the UK, why its set there, the kind fo business they're running and the sort of people you interact with in this Country. Im not arguing all British tv shows are amazing.

  • @jazz4 I love them both and treat them as two different shows. They really are, especially now.

  • I think even the die-hard fans of the US version would agree that the first episode was kind of week. I think, when they where able to develope their own stories, the series really took off. Look at the very next episode. Diversity Day is considered a classic.

  • ha US rocks thanks for uploading this video

  • i hop you failed at school cause this video comparission sucks

  • The irony of your comment is amazing.

  • @nopantsman320

    where's the irony?

  • Your spelling and grammar.

  • @nopantsman320

I'm sure you can do better in spanish, or any other language that is not your native one...

  • @nopantsman320 You and efsq are fighting like dwight and jim.

  • @SlighBaby

    lol. who am I?

  • @nopantsman320 NICE!

  • @efsq punked!

  • Haha... yeah...

  • Okay... but in real life who's going to waste all that time and money to pull elaborate pranks on their coworkers? When I "pull pranks" on my friends it is classic "Did you see that movie on TV last night? "Gaylords Say No"? types of jokes.

I guess that would be the biggest difference between the shows... the UK version has a firmer foot in reality.

Plus, lol, some of Jim's jokes are kinda mean.

  • No. You can't say asshole or goddamn it on NBC.

  • I love both versions. (Even though these last couple seasons of the US one has sucked it up, but, that always happens...) I'm American, and I like the American one more. I find it funnier, and it is probably because I'm American... That makes sense to me.

Granted though, I think the British one is a better show. They kept it like a REAL documentary, and ended it after a couple seasons... which most TV shows SHOULD do...

They're both great. Let's just be thankful and move on.

  • Wow, the Americans here like the American version better; the English like the English version. WHO KNEW? Maybe that's why they re-shot the whole fucking thing for the US...

  • sad

  • Comment removed

  • So being Canadian... I get both senses of humor? I do... so... But ya not so cool of that degree of copying. I wish they ran the UK one on CBC or something.

  • classic elitist. you obviously feel you have a very high-brow, sophisticated opinion on humor. You probably refer to it as "wit". That's why you talk about subtlety in humor and "really getting" jokes. And if you believe your humour is more subtle than our humor I believe "we" should be able to bring our own comparisons to this argument. For example, Faulty Towers, as compared to.... well. I don't think I need anything to disprove the lack of "subtle" in that.

  • @yungthuggydoe

lol, very good point. Only, Faulty Towers is AMAZING. I tend to agree that british humour is more witty and clever, considering that english comedians actually study humour. The US office is by no means bad in comparison, the later shows tend to differ quite a bit. The UK version just seems to have that classic tongue and cheek feel that the US doesn't. To be perfectly honest though, I find both series to be boring. That's not to say either of them are bad though.

  • terribly arrogant to imply that only english comedians study humor. i mean if we are going to try and out-do each other i would just point out that, rather than the american comedians, with their natural wit and cleverness, the englsh ones- average people educated in a teacher's idea of what humor is- are "better"?

the UK version is brilliant in its sharp wit. I love it. and the American version has plenty of that subtlety too. its not just jim putting dwights stapler in jello.

  • @yungthuggydoe

I apologise for coming off arrogant, it was not my intention, I was merely point that out. I suppose in a country like Englan you kinda need to be funny to keep spirits up due to the poor weather. I love some american comedy shows, I absolutely adore Boston Legal, and the later US Office has some great Jabs.

I'm not from either country tbh though. I just want to apologise for coming off arrogant.

  • @SweetSonata99 The two series have two different aims. The aim of the UK series was to be more like a "documentary" and to do so they showed the "everyday life of an office" bits. The UK series was only two season by choice, not due to ratings.

  • nice!

  • was that a sheet of jello in a box that the uk jim was eating?

  • The UK Jim is Tim.

  • both versions are good for the audience that they are intended. although i really like ricky, i love the us version with their casting and acting. i just like how the us version has more umph in their delivery and interpretation of the characters. otherwise, it wouldn't be good entertainment that can make you laugh out loud than just chuckle. not only that, i really like the camera work and editing of the us version.

  • its supposed to be an exaggerated representation/caricature of real life. if it were exactly identical to real life, nobody would be so interested in watching it. they'll just be entertained by their own 9-5 jobs.

And even though I know a guy in real life who is a lot like Dwight, you'll be hard pressed to find too many of them.

  • i like the U.S version beter because i just like how it is just a little more wakey and random humer in my opinion

  • is just different humor

  • At J4ff0rd Thanks for pointing that out(no sarcasm). I understand that the offic is a mockumentary, however, it seems like people (including myself) seem to enjoy the more wacky and zany. It has good ratings and if it works, then it works. The Office has very mush grown on me and it has also grown into it's own show, much seperate from the UK version, like the characters and the story line.

  • I love both of them. I just think the US and UK have different types of humor, so it's hard to say which one is better. Both Ricky and Steve are amazing, though.

  • UK one has ugly ppl. Dwight in US is sooooooooooooooooo much better than the UK man

  • I think they're both great and a big thank you to the UK because without them, we would not have the american version of the office , everyone has to understand that it would be really hard to get the UK version to actually work in the US due to the cultural differences , so yeah stop fighting.

  • Some of you are unbelievable. The American version is fucking tripe by comparison to the original. The characters may very well be warmer, but that's because they're simplified caricatures and not real human beings. David Brent could exist in real life; Michael Scott is a cartoon character.

  • I cant really judge the uk office because i havent seen a lot of it BUT I think the reason people like the us version is because, atleast to me, the characters are so real.

  • gotta be kidding the characters in ur version over act everything its the uk version but more slapstick

  • the reason you like the uk better is because your from the uk

  • I think the thing that makes the US office better is the delivery that Steve Carell has, it's not boring and subtle like Ricky Gervais. Just my opinion.

  • I think i would feel totally different if the order they were shown in was US first then UK. lol I'm a die-hard US fan... but after seeing the originals first, i have more respect for the UK version... and sadly... a little less for the US lol... i don't care... i love my kevin haha dude's a trip

  • i hate when people say you dont get a joke. People get the joke but it just not funny to them. The reason why you think it funny because it UK show make for UK PEOPLE FOR PEOPLE WITH UK HURMOR NOT FOR US.

  • US version feels more at home and the characters more relatable and more 3 dimensional than the UK especially michael/david the michael character is an idiot and you feel sory for him but the david is just creepy and acts like a disturbed individual otherwise both shjows are good but UK a little dry and stale

  • @bignoisematt Maybe it's just a cultural thing. I do think there's more warmth and comedy in the American version but it also seems more contrived (sounds silly when describing acting but since it's supposed to be realistic I hope you get my point). The UK Office seems raw and real. It's more like a work of art than the American office. That's not me trying to be pretentious in anyway, I think they both are good at different things and both excellent.

  • I totally agree. Personally, I LIKE the US version bettter, but the UK one is a BETTER show. It IS like a piece of art. It's like the difference between the best movie you've ever seen and your favorite. There's a difference between what you like better and what IS better.

  • @DancePetunia the UK one ISN'T better

  • @zacRip

    Okay...?

  • @J4ff0rd

It's nobody's fault whether or not they think one is funnier than the other. It's a matter of exposure, cultural differences, and when it comes down to it- ignorance. If an American doesn't understand the UK jokes, it's not because they're idiots. And vice versa. But they're both immensely successful shows, and deserve that credit.

  • The U.S. Office is one of the top 3 American sitcoms of all time, and I look forward to it all week....the UK Office is the best show of all time period, and I thank God for it, period. Beyond brilliant, a gift from above

  • 4:28 - 5:12 is kinda bad acting. didnt react to the jelly like dwight did

  • i think that the reason why us is better than uk version is the acting and the way people act...Micheal is way more annoying than Ricky..

  • actually its better acting becuz people wouldnt react like dwight thats the thing with us version everything is in your face and so is dwights reaction getting overly angry and punching the table, dumbed down humour its given to u on

  • a plate

  • @NakedCreep

i suppose you're right. it loses i wil probably hav to watch the rest of the American series before i can really hav an opinion

  • The UK version was a new and edgy mocumentary whereas the US version is just another sit-com. Quite disapointed with the US version

  • im sorry your dissapointed you must feel like jumping of a tall building huh

  • Simply put, this rah rah is asinine. I am an American, and both are excellent. Been watching the UK version on Adult Swim. Bravo to all.

  • Well the idea for the US show came from the British one, so yes it is steller British writing. I love both versions, the British version is much more subtle and absolute genius. Whilst the American version is still funny, it will never be as brilliant as the original.

  • I just don't see why things have to be subtle to be funny...they can be but that's not what humor has to be. There's a whole lot of claiming without examples going on. Of course, people will say "Idiot, if you compared both you would see why." Thats not good enough. I want to see somebody give a clear standing and back it up with evidence from this video, like Recedite did. Do that, and maybe then-JUST MAYBE-Steve Carrel or Ricky Gervais (depending on your standing) will suck your cock/cunt.

  • U s is better

  • Do u guys think they should make a episode where the US and UK cast of the office meet. Like it can happen in the final episode of the US office or something.

  • @maybejesse Aren't the first few US seasons identical to the UK version writing-wise?

  • I prefer the Us version, seems a bit more faster paced plus Steve Carell is great.

  • yeah, they've both captured a different kind of awkwardness.

  • Uk version is much more subtle. thats what i picked up on from it.

  • The british looks like a REAL documentary, with real people.

the american version is a caricature, so it's easy to laugh.

  • You make it sound like it's a bad thing that the US version is funny?

  • wasnt my intention. I watch the office US version every week, from the beggining. I love it!!

  • AMERICAN KICKS BUTT!!!

  • Thats a deep, pointed critique indeed. o_O

  • they should have Tim come on the show as a like a representative for a future partner/merger... Tim and Dwight- let the hilariousness unfold.

  • The UK version completely fails compared to the US version. This video makes it even more obvious. =P

  • I don't understand the UK version at all. the delivering of the jokes is completely different. Ricky Gervais just kind of mumbles when he's doing the joke. it doesn't click right away for me. I laugh hysterically at the way steve carrell says the jokes

  • As a Brit

The UK version is too hard with Sarcastic overtones.

The US version is easier to watch with far better production values.

    But they're both Excellent

  • The American version kills the UK version hands down!

  • go away you're boring me now

  • I'm British and I really dislike the bitter, depressing tone of the original series and yet am an absolutely huge fan of the fun, slightly cartoony and more sitcom-esque American show. I think the American series has better characters, has a better sense of humour, and is much more well rounded and better written programme all in all.

  • i said only americans think the american version is better, i didnt say its only americans who like the american version, i know plenty of people from europe who like the american show but think the original is better

  • Comment removed

  • I love the American version of the office and the first season wasn't that great to me either, I think mainly because the first season was a rehash of the uk office. Once the American office did their own scripts and own ideas it became brilliant.

  • American here that likes the UK version better. I can't even make it through one American episode now. Some things just shouldn't be tampered with.

  • I think the problem with the BBC version is that it seems like the audio quality is worse. I can barely hear most of the jokes, and also they talk a lot faster and mumble most of the dialogue. But im sure People from the UK dont even notice and they probably think we talk very slow lol

  • lol you think writing 'case closed!' at the end of your comment makes it true? Firstly bear in mind that the US one was CREATED by the guy who created the UK version first. It had to be completely dumbed down obviously for our American friends - that is why the humours are so different. You have to actually *think* about the comedy in the original which of course would be wasted in US.

  • You're only showing YOUR stupidity by stereotyping a whole country.

  • seeing the two back to back, can you really argue against the obvious, that the US version has better acting and better comedic timing? Same dialogue even, but the richness and colorful characters in the US version (Dwight of course) are far superior! I didn't laugh once in the UK version but the US one is hysterical. To me the british characters all seem so much alike, but the US version's characters are self possessed and don't hold back so much with the humor. Case closed!

  • UK office really is not as funny. Us version has much stronger characters and doesn't make use of crude humour as much

  • I couldn't agree more with what artvandelay13 says. They're bot brilliant in completely different ways. I love the American version for the constant wackiness, and I love the British version because, though the funny moments are slightly further apart, they really drop the bomb, and it's more believable.

Best moment ever: David Brent "I think there's been a rape up there!"

    Classic.

I can't wait till we rip off Benny Hill.

  • Geez, come on people. Is there no one else who thinks both series are equally brilliant and amazing??? Because they both are. People have to realize these are just two different types of humour. Just because British humour isn't your thing doesn't mean it's not funny. Same thing with American humour. And yes, the American series was very similar to the UK one in the first season, but since then it has gone on to be its own show and is still one of the funniest shows on TV. (I'm Canadian btw)

  • 'why would you wanna raise your cholestorol?'

    'so i can lower it.'

    I LOVE DWIGHT :D

  • Whatever makes you feel your opinion is right and valid...even though it isn't and never will be...because it's ONLY an opinion and not a fact.

  • did i say it was a fact...NO. It is my opinion and I stand by it and you think otherwise which is your opinion...I disagree with you but I respect your opinion

  • To be honest, it seems like most of the comments on this page are about how people either like both versions equally.. or like the US better because the UK version is too subtle and mumbly.

  • I hate to say, the UK version seems so dry. I only laughed at one part of the UK version, and that was the "special filling cabinet" part. I am a little disapointed.
