Yes, but if people can not afford a 1.5% rise in interest, then they probably borrowed too much to start with. Government can not be a fault for peoples borrowing appetites, or for people making false declarations in getting loans. Plus, nobody says anything about those looking to take out loans, now. 6.75% is not a bad rate for new home owners, much better than over 10%.
I think the govt is being punished for (amongst other things) false promises, particuarly with regards to the interest rate. You're right, if somebody cannot afford a 1.5% rise, they deserve to go bankrupt. I'm just saying that 1.5% of $1/2 mil extra is a LOT. Though the gov't has no direct control on interest rates, spending a shitload of money in election promises isn't going to help the situation.
If people want to be stupid, then they will be stupid. If Howard said at the last election that he will keep interest rates at record lows, I would never think that that means "at a record low" singular, as if it would never move. "Record lows" (plural) means in a low band, and historically it is still there. The ALP is just trying to spin this as much as possible in their favour, but I don't think they should talk about interest rates. Too many people still remember loosing homes under Keating.
I don't think a gov't 11 years ago can really be used as an indicator of how todays Labor gov't will perform. And I think the only mention of interest rates is that since the last election with the low interest rates promise, they have been regularly creeping up.

Family first (hillsong church political party) concerns me. They're anti-abortion and anti-gay rights. But exclusive brethren, who do nothing for society, who run slanderous ad campaigns (then lie and say they didn't), and who are being investigated by the AFP for moving money illegally across international borders, shouldn't be given tax exemption as a church, let alone legitimacy from the PM. At least Rudd refused to speak with them.

1)Workchoices will not be abolished by Rudd, just toned down.2)David Hicks was caught training with Alqueda, so I'd say he was in suspicious circumstances.3)I agree, immigration is far to much, we the people need to say how much and were from.4)Interest rates have risen 1.5% over the past term. Not a great deal I would say and still historically low and better than the previous government.

5)The Iraq war may be considered 'illegal'(even if Hussain himself gained power illegally) but that was 2003. Since then we have been welcomed by the new Iraqi government to be peace keepers. By the way , Rudd is not going to completely withdrawn from Iraq, like he is not going to completely role back workchoices. Thing is, he makes out that he will.

5) Rudd hasn't made out that he would leave Iraq. The point is we should never have been there. Now we have to deal with it. It is an illegal war. Overthrowing a dictoator is not justification, esp. when we're doing nothing in Sudan. You didn't mention 6) Libs do have a strange affinity with religious party Family First & more worryingly, exlusive brethren, who ARE under investigation by the AFP.

germanicelt... 1) Yes, but it needs toning down. 2) That makes him a captured enemy combatant, or POW, who under the geneva convention should be afforded those rights. Regardless of who's side he fought on, he's still an Aus citizen. 3) Immigration does need to be fixed, over 200 falsely imprisoned so far. 4) Gov't has little control on interest rates, but does make liars out of Libs in last election. 1.5% is a lot if you're paying $1/2 mil on a house.

Yes, but if people can not afford a 1.5% rise in interest, then they probably borrowed too much to start with. Government can not be a fault for peoples borrowing appetites, or for people making false declarations in getting loans. Plus, nobody says anything about those looking to take out loans, now. 6.75% is not a bad rate for new home owners, much better than over 10%.

I think the govt is being punished for (amongst other things) false promises, particuarly with regards to the interest rate. You're right, if somebody cannot afford a 1.5% rise, they deserve to go bankrupt. I'm just saying that 1.5% of $1/2 mil extra is a LOT. Though the gov't has no direct control on interest rates, spending a shitload of money in election promises isn't going to help the situation.

If people want to be stupid, then they will be stupid. If Howard said at the last election that he will keep interest rates at record lows, I would never think that that means "at a record low" singular, as if it would never move. "Record lows" (plural) means in a low band, and historically it is still there. The ALP is just trying to spin this as much as possible in their favour, but I don't think they should talk about interest rates. Too many people still remember loosing homes under Keating.

I don't think a gov't 11 years ago can really be used as an indicator of how todays Labor gov't will perform. And I think the only mention of interest rates is that since the last election with the low interest rates promise, they have been regularly creeping up.
Interest rates are just one of the things that will lose Johnny his job. Like I said earlier, he's done a lot of different to make himself unpopular to a large portion of the community.

The good thing (or perhaps the sad thing) is that I wouldn't necessarily need to know the background on these two to relate to the message. Human nature is screwed up sometimes and the political arena seems to be where we see a good chunk of that cold hard evidence.
