  • @JohnathanWuSC2 and i got pwned

  • Wow! For a high school this is really well played :)

    Great job everyone!

    Love Leroy Anderson btw ^_^

  • Great job! just some sour tuning :p

  • Wow! I'm actually pleasantly surprised! This is very good for a high school band! Well done! I think the only reason there is a lag is because of the recording.

  • Also, it is VERY difficult to do the horse neigh with a trumpet! Extra thumbs up for that! Y'all are very talented and your conductor is awesome!

  • ey where the trumpets at ! cant hear ya bro ~ lol this is was really good btw.

  • gooddd..but kinda out of tunee...

  • quality is pretty good but it seemed to lag

  • Damn theres some trombones back there really going to work, that's awesome

  • They really didn't, that's in the original song.

  • nice, they added thier own spin to the middle

  • VERY good, they should be very proud!! :)

  • Arroyo seco sounds better! Yeah! Go clarinets!

  • We are playing this at my middle school and we sound better!

  • fantastic performance by high school band. Must be great conductor there!

  • i nailed the horse whinny at the end when i played this in high school lol

  • Relient K version is excellent too !

  • I really liked this arrangement, my high school played this actually, this past Christmas season.

  • this orchestra is ranked 7th in the state of texas

  • Great job on this song! I have heard from many people that this is a VERY difficult song to play!

  • I'm playing this for orchestra(i'm only in middle school)

  • haha, played this in my school orchrestra, i play the cello. this is actually a really nice speed to play it at, brilliant piece of music :)

  • too many strings, my school had no strings at all! hahaha good job though.

  • Wow

    This sux

My school is playing this way faster

Central regonal highschool is da best!!!!!

  • Sorry, this may seem like a stupid question to some people :P. So, what instruments is part of this kind of orchestra?

  • goooo kempner! that year was one of kempner's best symphony orchestras. and also the yr before that hahah. both the band and orchestra were really good those two yrs.

  • @asiangrl88 haha. just a question but how does your band and orchestra work together to put on a concert? at my high school me and the other bandies dont like our orchestra and theres no way we'd preform with them. lol. then again they dont sound as good as you guys. lol. but good job, =)

  • @biggestjesusfan the orchestra's christmas concert at kempner is a tradition, so every yr the orchestra's director asks the band students if anyone is willing to volunteer to participate in the concert. they dont receive extra credit or anything, so they pretty much volunteer at their own will. we usually get a good amount, so its a really good thing. back when i was in high school, a lot of band/orchestra students were friends with each other, so it was a lot of fun. well, in my yr anyway. lol

  • go horse whinny

  • bien fait.... :)

  • I like it

  • Speaking as an old High School Band Director, this was delightful. They did a great job. I remember doing this on a Christmas Concert about 45 years ago and having a heck of a time getting it to performance level. :)

  • OMG yess win go coogs !!!

  • LEEEEEROOOOOYYYY AANNNDDDERRRSSSONNN!!!!

    Goddammit, Leroy!

  • I had the high honor of covering slapstick when my orchestra played this. It was the kind where you flick it over your head like an actual whip. When timed correctly, it's a wonderful feeling.

  • want to know something funny. okay here it is....

So in high school one can do the horse sound on the trumpet but when you get to college nobody can do it. >.< no cool! and if we do its really small.

  • i love leroy anderson and you guys couldnt have played this version any better

  • this brings bak so many memories.

except we didnt have strings :(

but it sounds really good!!! i never knew kempner played leroy andersons arrangement of christmas music, its a pleasant surprise!

  • That was pretty darn impressive for a bunch of high school kids :)

  • whered the neighing sound come from

  • @radio1911im pretty sure thats from a trumpet playing heavy vibrato with the valves half down, possibly with a st. mute

  • @snootmuffin i remember they played it by shacking the trumpet holding the valves half down.. i dont remember seeing a mute being used.

  • @radio1911ify it was one of the trumpets

  • LEEEEEROYYYYY ANDERSONNNNNNN

  • yeah im sorry but it sounds alot better with trumpets trombones tubas ect.

  • @theps3kid101 tubas rule

  • @BaileyBelyeu TUBAS DO RULE ! TUBA CHRISTMAS RULES !

  • Lame slapstick -.-

  • @higunz315

its actually called the whip crack

  • We played this EVERY year!

  • Hellz ya im playing this in my band, annnnd im first tenor. So I have a mix of backround and melody, fricken love christmas

  • MY GOSH THIS BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL!

  • I LOVED playing this song in high school.

  • I love the sound of the low brass

  • i like the trombone/baritone sound

  • you guy's and girl rock GREAT JOB!!!!! YOU HAVE A GREAT MUSIC TEACHER..

  • im playing this for orchestra :)

  • i play bass clarinet for this piece. this is really good btw :0)

  • I played this last year in the local youth symhpony. I really enjoy listening to it. Not so much playing--especially as a second violin. I first heard of this piece in choir and instantly liked it.

  • @silvercew same. second violin part is quite hard. :P

  • i play this song every year in my band. love the song, but its annoying to play. love listenin to it though :]

  • These kids did a great job on this not-so-easy but absolutely wonderful Christmas song! Well done!

  • God, i hated this song. I played first. Me and the girl who also played first couldn't get the high notes. I cringe when i hear the name XD

  • this is my favorite christmas song :D

  • im playing this for the ACYO winter concert :D

  • Hey, these kids are pretty good! Great job!

  • I played the xylophone in this one (: at my school! I loved it!!

  • This was always one of my MOST FAVORITE pieces to play in Band..

  • Whoever recorded this did a terrible job

  • thats a small orchestra

  • It's a slapstick..

  • what's creating that whip/clap sound at 1:26?

  • i think it is two wood blocks

  • yeah i looked it up and apparently its called a whip or a slapstick. thanks tho!

  • lol yeah we have been waiting for someones finger to get caught in that thing lol

  • One hell of a good rendition of Sleigh Ride, in my opinion, and I have listened to a LOT of them.

  • @madamerotten Close to Mr. Anderson's specifications.

  • Gotta hand this to the Kemper High School Symphony Orchestra; never believed I would love this song as an instumental by anyone but Leroy Anderson and the Boston Pops but YOU CAME CLOSE! Just simply great!

  • go trumpets XD

  • Wow! I heard the Minnesota Orchestra play this at Orchestra Hall. Not sure how good you guys played it tho.

  • woah. the first bar is missing!

  • Your low brass fails.

  • I found this through wikipedia"s Todays featured picture..

Is this net for real ..or am i just dreaming

  • i love this

  • i would probably have the top pitch for the temple blocks be a bit higher if possible, but great job otherwise!

  • We are very impressed, and my eyes filled with tears thinking how proud you all must have been,,,congratulations to the conductor!

  • im in band and play the flute. me and my bff [alexandra] r making up a dance to this song. its so jumpy!!!

  • i play this too but i have 4th french horn part, so its one of the most boring (and easy) parts in the whole song

  • im playing in the orchester too

and we play this song too

    they're really good!

ale smyczki im nie stroją jak cholera...

  • Terriffic performace of a great musical piece! Love it! Nice job!

  • Fabulous version. Well done for high school. The director should be commended!

  • ahhhhhh the memories this brings back to me! I miss the orchestra so :(

  • damn around 2:00 they start jazzin it up ..........nice

  • bcuz thats how to song goes

  • played this in band last year :D

  • We played this a couple of days ago at our band concert. I had the horse whinny.

  • Like many of the other commernters I too played this in school (actually for a concert today). At first I didn't really appreciate but it has grown on me a lot and is now one of my favorites. It's just too bad that basically all parts except for 1st Violin are sort of a joke :P

  • We played that today in school!

  • De puta madre

  • I wish i could play that in my school band. I am in percussion so I'd probably do sleigh bells. Man, you guys are so lucky. Great job!

  • we play this in my band

  • WOW! You guys did a nice job!!

  • AWESOME!!!! OMG!!! =D

  • beautiful!!

i wish we could play this too in my orchestra

  • someone in the 1st violins is sharp almost the entire time...other than that it was awesome...used to play this in orchestra all the time lol

  • is tht the trumpet that i hear at the end doing the horse neigh? cuz thts wat our band does, along with the first seat clarinet(Me) :) its really fun.

  • ya its a trumpet

  • Comment removed

  • some pitch issues, some rushing in the places where most people rush, but overall, very nice!

  • No, if the didnt play well, they didnt play well. they were lousy compared to strake jesuit-st. agnes

  • i am playing this at my band concert on froday at school x

  • noticed that EVERYONE plays 1st alto on this in band.

i play first alto and i have to say this orchestra sounds great, but nothing sounds better than the saxes and trumpets at letter "F"

NOT EVEN THE BEST STRINGS YOU CAN FIND lol

there is no other two groups that compliment each other as well the sax and trumpet in this piece.

    end of story haha

  • hells yeah to that!

  • i play 2nd alto :)

pretty fun to add on the lil rhythm to the 1st alto ^^ sounds awesome

  • this is the exact version we play, but im in band :D

  • wow my band in ms plays better then that

  • whatever.

  • I love the rythem of this song.

  • This song is a tradition at my school. We play it every year at our Christmas concert (which happens to be in 2 weeks). The first alto part is really high. We play it as a band (as in no strings). I love the bass line at 2:00

  • ! i play the first alto part... terribly high lol but fun

  • Nice bassline at 1:50

I play french horn, and the part for this is CRAZY suck.

    FH 3 is awful lol.

  • in sixth grade we played this but it was edited so it wuz easier...THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!

  • 1:50 i love playing that part on tenor sax ;D

  • nice. my bands playin it latr so threr no strings, just brass, woodwind, and percusion, basicaly...

  • Sounds exactly like the actual recording. hella tight

  • good job! i played that in seventh grade (last year).

broke the slapstick on the "whip" part.

    fun stuff.

haha, all yer parts are hard. the only thing thats hard about percussion in this song is counting correctly. which when you think about it can be difficult. for some.

anyways, fantastic job! keep up the music, guys :]

  • i totally know what you mean, i'm playing the slapstick part in this next week, i RELY on the woodblock part to know where i am lol.

  • That was FANTASTIC!! Way to go guys!!

  • i playing this next week!!!!! BASSOON all the way!!!

  • anyone have a euphonium part they could send me?

  • Were playiing it on Dec. 10th! Go Great Job! So NErvous!!

  • lucky!! we get to play the day after and on the 13....i worked so hard to learn this and hafta wait for another week XD

  • we're playin this at our school..and i play trumpet..and it's not a ride through the park..lol

  • pretty good for high school

For everyone complaining how hard it is, you've never done the viola part - its so ridiculously easy you want to smash something

  • We are playing the symphonic band version and its amazing how similar they sound

  • I am going to see a concert by the Mid-Michigan Youth Symphony. I really hope they play this song. I love this version of it because of the ending. Thank you, very nice.

  • I had to do it on the oboe. Very fast and difficult too. But it was fun! :)

  • im playing this on the clarinet as well this year (and its feakin hard for me)

  • wow they are very good, but wheres the band? i only see the orchestra

  • Im playing this on the clarinet at school

  • same here

    awesome song

  • We're playing this as a parade song.

    Low brass ftw.

  • i'm playing this for the winter concert at my school it's all band instuments no strings. i play alto saxaphone and my part is pretty easy. my school also uses the slapstick and temple blocks. it's a cool song=)

  • it's really hard for the clarinets though..

cuz they have to play all this high notes... :|

yeah. but it is a fun songn to play, :P

  • Ilove this song.were playing it in band right now

  • yea me to

  • WE Play This EVERY Year At My School x.x

  • Comment removed

  • Hey i have to play this at my holiday concert and its f'ing awesome. GOod job,

    im a trumpet player

  • were playing this at my school and i love its so fun to play i got the really easy part though cuz i play baritone and it sounds awesome

  • i have to play this for the christmas concert at school and we just got it, and 3 other peices! and we only have like 10 days of school to rehearse! (8th grade)

    ps- saxophones rule!

  • It's not a whip, first it's temple blocks for the DUH DUH DUH DUH part and then the slapstick for the SLAP! part at the end.

  • not the greatest, but not totally horrible. i think they could have done a better with getting their notes in tune. and making it sound more clear and not just some mushed up sound. also needs to work on dynamics.

but thats just my opinion you dont have to agree with it.

  • My school band director said she does this everyother year, and i get to play it in 8th grade!!!!! (One Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • this band played really well! it was extremely light and bouncy, and the flutes were great! a little more dynamics perhaps? (on the part before the whip crack especially). I REALLY loved the bounce, and the staccato i think was pretty good.

  • YOSH now I have your youtube account!

    -TIffany

  • were playing this in our middle school's honors band it sounds cool

  • What??? A middle school? its kind of hard, i have first part clarinet. its really high but i'm a bamf so not so hard but it is for unexperienced played

  • yeah, but our parts pretty easy, i play trombone and our band has some of the best players in our district

  • maybe its another arrangement...

  • it sounds exactly the same to me

  • I mean the one My band is doing... i think most def. it is a different one because most of the really high notes are played by the clarinet...

  • so do i but still its sooo fun

  • Players

  • you guys killed it (were really good)

  • Comment removed

  • im ina 7th 8th grade band im in 7th and we got this music 3 days ago, we sound pretty good
