Nice job. Been thinking of trying this myself. My first few tries will probably be shit, but ya gotta start somewhere. Thanks for the vid showing how.
I find that anytime a man calls another man a "faggot", it`s because A: HE himself is one & is projecting his fear on another...Or B: He is happily gay & looking for his counterpart,of which I am NOT....sorry.
On the other hand, if you think you want a piece of me, I`m easy to find & you can speak to my face...Like a man.
@PeterPeli It is called an isshe stick (not sure of the spelling). and the space is probably there to allow the tool somewhere to travel after making the flake
Yes, you can use a nail to pressure flake with. It wont grab like copper or antler will, but it does work. Ishi, the last wild Indian, used a nail pressure flaker to make fantastic looking points....jim
excellent video demo work !! bottles !!! neat trick with the nail !! flint rock is easy to find here in the ozarks and I can see how the glass would be a great practice choice..Big Thanks to you for your postings !!
NOPE! that point he made out of a glass bottle is very similar to the arrowheads that native americans would have used to hunt with. Though their points would have been made out of obsidian, flint or dacite A glass arrowhead like that is quite functional.
Granted I wouldn't expect it to last for years and years, but it will get you a solid kill on a deer, just as effectively as a steel broadhead would. If you are lucky it might be good for 2-5 kills provided you don't hit bone.
You are lost in the woods. You see a deer and have a bow and arrow set up with a knapped head. You haven't eaten in a week. You wouldn't shoot the deer?
With a reasonable bow, yeah. As long as you have good shot placement and avoid those pesky shoulder bones and ribs.
Fun fact: Doctors want to use obsidian and other like stones instead of their surgical steel scalpels because it is at this time impossible to make scalpels as sharp as rocks such as obsidian.
Flint is close to the same as obsidian, and it is plenty strong enough. Think Native American. They tackled deer or something? No, bow and arrows. They had no concept of metalworking, they used stones and flints and wood and bone for pretty much everything.
thank you for the videos these helped me under stand and how to make tools

I was laughing after reading the comment below. I actually knew who Isha was. Nice videos.
My life is simple I just want to make some flints for starting fire. I was just hitting the core with a hammer but now I'll try to knap it.
cheers
