    Product Description

    Sterling Music Man

The SB14 uses a basswood body for warm tones with great sustain. The Music Man designed Sterling onboard active 3 band preamp is dead quiet and offers full cut and boost for bass, mid and treble frequencies. A smaller body shape makes it more comfortable and easy to hold for long sets.

  • this guitar is the best

  • the tone is amazing. I can see why eddie van halen used this before he made his current guitar

  • devin townsend guitar

  • @MmaNcovers No, he plays a custom Peavey of a similar design.

  • i will own the ax40

  • 1:27 "And Rosewood Fingerboards".... eh?

  • have always wanted a music man!

  • calm down ladies it's only a guitar trying to sound like a les paul and failing

  • @crabbtrixexp

Because a thin-bodied guitar thats shaped like a rounded tele with a vintage-style tremolo in a basswood body is even trying to sound like one?

  • @crabbtrixexp Loooolll not even close! ;)

  • @crabbtrixexp Aw jeez how misinformed are you?

  • "hey there, its marty mcfly from the future and today we'll be looking at one point twentyone cool looking gigawatt"

  • I have an axis AND a wolfgang standard. I played one of these .... I was FURIOUS at how good it was.... Honestly, theres very little reason to buy an axis over this thing. The axis are finished better, and have a real top of course, but this is an AWESOME workhorse/gigging guitar.

  • I was just at a guitar shop and they had a few of these Sterlings and a few of the "real" ones. After playing them both at the store, the Sterling Musicman guitars are pieces of junk compared to the real ones. Yeah, the real ones are more expensive but they are much better. If you are willing to spend $550.00 on a Sterling, do yourself a favor and get an Ibanez or some other comparable guitar and you won't even have to spend $550.00 to get a better guitar than these Sterlings.

  • @EnergeticUniverse i just saw you post this on like another 3 vids, maybe you should stop trollin' and take your obviously expert opinion elsewhere.

  • @HallJJ08 Maybe you should do humanity a favor and jump off of a cliff. I will post my opinion, especially after doing research, wherever I want so others may feel inclined to go play the guitar first before buying it after watching youtube videos. Only a complete jerk, like yourself, would have a problem with someone giving people a heads up on something before they spend their money. Nice work.

  • @EnergeticUniverse No dude. I have an axis AND a wolfgang standard. I played one of these .... I was FURIOUS at how good it was.... Honestly, theres very little reason to buy an axis over this thing. The axis are finished better, and have a real top of course, but this is an AWESOME workhorse/gigging guitar. I have a shit ton of ibanez guitars as well....

  • @JgHaverty true, I have a few Ibanez guitars, but the music man takes the cake! I recently tried one earlier this month and I was surprised on how great it feels in my hands :O

  • @redlinecons That's what she said! ;)

  • Paul Riario Roles........... He's a guitarmonster

  • Christ, this guy can play!!!!

  • this guy looks so gay but fuckin rockl'n roll

  • wonder if an EVH special will sound this good, great bright tone

  • I own one that unfortunately I need to sell. Brand new. And they are nice guitars for the money! No locking tuners though. That was a mistake on his part. It has a locking nut and Floyd.

  • For what its worth people. Look at my profile videos. I own a musicman axis AND a peavey wolfgang standard.

The AX40 is on par with them. Some things are cheaped out on (tuners, bridge, pickups), but playability is about 90% the same.

    the ax20, not so much.

  • did paul just wake up??

  • He's an Angry Bird!!

  • I can't wait to get one of these guitars!

  • which one is better this or the fender blacktop strat plzzz help

  • @joeldification Ax40... hands down....

  • @JgHaverty then this or jackson dxmg?

  • @joeldification Eh, they are both about as good as each other. Im not a fan of jackson necks at ALL, so my vote is the ax40 still, BUT thats subjective as its still a decent guitar. That said, notice how im saying "ax40" and not "ax20" :) Something about the ax20 felt wrong, and felt much cheaper too. I didnt like it AT ALL. I LOVED the ax40, and it plays almost as well as my axis and wolfgang, and since I own both, you can take it to heart im not being biased at all.

  • @joeldification looking back, I really wish I saved my money and just bought one of these and a nice amp instead, that would have worked better for me.

  • @guitarworld how much?

  • wich is better the axis or one of this?

  • @RiveGuitar The Axis.

  • @Guitarvesa thank you :D

  • @RiveGuitar No problem =)

  • these frets are buttery and magical.

  • so how do these guitars compare to the actual music mans???

  • I like the guitars, poor planning though, the model I think would be the best would have vol, tone, 5 way switch and Floyd Rose. Who is their design team? Not too bright!

  • @atomikhound complain to eddie van halen :D

  • did anyone get the mormon commercial before this? hahah

  • *sighs* man this guys always on fire, hes so sick ambulances pull him over............thumbs up if like

  • That... Sounds fucking phenomenal. I want one.

  • hi just..want to know what is the weight of this guitar?? it is said that it was made from basswood?? and any idea if this guitar is heavier than ibanez rg350 series??

  • the ax40 fretboard is maple!!!!

  • does this guitar stay in tune very well?

  • it looks kinda like evh sig guitar (the latest one) or Brian May's guitar :)

  • @nine9live5 well ed did use a music man in the early 90's!

  • @kevinnotevan i actually didn't know that... ty :)

and how did you manage to find my comment lol?

  • @nine9live5 your welcome! i love vh so I look up a bunch of facts all of the time lol :)

I was just browsing through them to see what was interesting and looked at yours, you needed an answer so I answered! lol

  • Are these like Fender Squires or Gibsons Epiphone models?

I have 2 of the EBMM EVH top end models with the rounder, smaller shaped necks. Love those friggin necks BTW! These fret boards look flatter and wider like Peavey Evh's, which I hate. xp

  • Not a patch on Andy from PGS! haha

  • every guitar he uses sounds the fuckin same....wayy too many effects

  • lol 3:00

    tremolo effect :D

  • holy shit, the one with the floyd & maple board is HOT!

  • I wonder what real difference is betwen these and the REAL USA Music Man guitars and the Petrucci model.

  • Funally, a good REALISTIC singlecoil/split.

  • WHAT A FUCKING HOT SOUND !

  • what amp was used to play this?

  • Paul RULES!

  • I have a hard time paying attention looking at the guitar with you playing like that. Nice.

  • @androidapps3000 I love it! I play it in almost all of my videos

  • I have the ax40

  • @guitardouche666 do you like it?

  • this guy has a shitty hair cut thumbs up if you agree

  • @hermitcrabstuff34 Eh it's not that bad. Stop finding things to hate on Paul. Wake up and just realize he's a pretty decent guitarist and cool guy with an awesome job.

  • @FeralArtist who is this and how do you know my name

  • @hermitcrabstuff34 I'm Jeff and I stalk you every day.

  • @FeralArtist Lol!

  • @FeralArtist well good your you

  • The AX40 is the best guitar I can afford & own.

  • licnensed floyd rose...yuck

  • them some ugly ass guitars but sound and play awesome

  • @joeyjeremiah1 Actually its a pretty cool guitar shape. Well i guess for me ;D

  • hey paul...nice playing...got a question how does the neck on the ax40 compair to the wolfgang and the charvel san dimas?any help would be great..thanks chris

  • Comment removed

  • @gogg0 no he dosent he flips the pickup selector to the neck pickup

  • The Tremolo is so perfect. This thing nails all 80s mid-distortion hits. It's perfect for Van Halen type solos and songs. Strictly and 80's rock guitar IMO.

  • Hey, it's Michael J Fox from Back to the Future! lol Sorry dude...you do resemble him.

Anyways, unless I'm missing something (other than the pick-ups and the country that they are manufactured), the AX-40 is pretty much identical to the Musicman Axis...but for less than 1/3 of the price!!?? Basswood body, Quilted Maple Top, Floyd Rose, Maple Neck, etc. As for the pick-ups on the AX-40, they sound great on this demo.

  • @ipsofacto297 lol I was thinking the same thing!! "Hellllllo, McFly!!" :)

  • he said rosewood fingerboards??? 1:28.....maple!...lol...nice axe tho

  • Aye, Canny player!!

  • *EVERYONE* Watch my video rant on how they should make Sterling AX-40's and Ernie Ball Music Man Axis left handed. i'm a left handed guitar player whos always wanted to play this guitar.

  • My choices are a Sterling Music Man AX40, either the SoCal or SanDimas (both as a Style 1-2H), or the upcoming EVH Wolfgang Special. I'm aiming for something that's gonna give me a great 70's/80's-ish rock sound(think Van Halen and Guns n' Roses) and a great clean blues sound( like Stevie Ray Vaughan). Which one would give me the best bang for the buck?

  • @jakemk21 I have a AX40. it's perfect for Van Halen/ Guns n' Roses and blues (you will have to play with your amp controls a bit) but it is a awesome guitar

  • @MrGuitarVirtuoso Thanks so much! It does sound really good, just wanna make sure with somebody that has had it longer than a demo.

  • hey does anyone kno if it is a thin or thick neck? thx

  • @midgetrocker36 it has a asymetrical neck. its rounder at the top then the bottom so it fits your hand.

  • What's the difference between a Veneer top and a carved top? Is the veneer top not a real maple cap/top? Thanks.

  • @xXNeoShredderXx What you mean is the difference between Veneer and Cap. A Veneer is thin less than a 1/8 inch usually and is for appearances. They are also cheaper than a cap. A cap is much thicker and is designed to effect the tonal quality of a guitar as well as look nice.

  • @danukenator123 Thank you.

  • oh man, it will allways be a EVH designed guitar for me, just missed out on buying one here locally.

  • left handed: not available

    : (

  • holy fuck, Paul can fucking play man!!!!

  • oh, i never spelt it zeebra, i always used one e, my bad

  • I'm sure a lot of those owns the REAL ones are hating these STERLINGS!

  • @emgzwset Actually I own the AX40 and it is a Awesome guitar. It can have awesome hardrock, metal, shred tones but its also great to play clean. The neck is incredebly comfortable and the liscensed floyd works great.I could not see, hear or feel a difference between mine and the american version

  • @emgzwset what do u mean?

  • @emgzwset

No not really. They were not around when I bought my Axis.

  • So these are imports like the olps where but are more expensive? fail.. I used to have an olp mm1 and it was a good guitar kindof regret selling it now. I bought mine for like 119 GBP off ebay as well :(

  • i have yet to see paul sweeping

  • sounds no where near as good as the EVH.....

  • i love how he said they both have rosewood fret boards but only one does. you think for how much they make they can atleast make sure the facts are right

  • Sterling by Musicman... Made in Indonesia!

  • sounds exactly like eddie

  • I am selling a 2 month used AX40 in mint condition with a Seymour Duncan in the bridge for only $515. Message me if your interested.

  • @Guitarchordhelper why are you selling it, is something wrong? Or do you want something else intstead? What I would like to know is if it stays in tune after a dive bomb and if the bridge cause the guitar to have intonation issues.

  • @Guitarchordhelper i just paid $412 with 2 sets of ernie ball strings at GC

  • My biggest Question is, Where are these things made? Does anyone know the true answer?

  • hmm its pronounced basswood? I always thought it was pronounced like basewood

  • @ruffles272 it is.. This guy is just a dick

  • it`s basewood in my house!

  • Guitar sounds great and looks great...players will want to replace the trem with an original and level it properly.

  • haha he goes for the whammy bar at 3:00

  • hahah yeah

  • Comment removed

  • lol he looks like one of the seaguals in finding nemo haha

  • This guy shouldn't be working for guitarworld. he should be playing professionally for someone

  • @johnadorian he probably did but now he's the editor of guitar world magazine

so I don't think he needs to

  • kinda looks like the wolfgang (that van halen guitar)

  • @guitarsbunch347 , its an off shore version of the evh enie ball music man circa 1992 'ish

  • Paul i want to Jam with YOU!!!! I love you but not such a big fan of the guitars. Do you have a band paul? if not could you start one PLEASE!!!!

  • Cool riffs, Paul. I don't really care about the guitars, but nice playing!

  • Not liking the strat-esque control nobs, they look a bit outta place!

  • 1:35

    A bit hendrix inspired?

  • It was EVH signature guitar.

  • he should do his own video for "betcha cant play this" xD

  • @sikooky I think he has a betcha can't play this.

  • i really like the neck pickup tone

  • Comment removed

  • he switches the pickup. i thought the same thing at first too

  • @tecnicasmuaithai you're the fail here man

  • 2:22 sounds like a thing that Michael Angelo can write xD hes awesome

  • *cough*... ehem....

  • It's not a whammy fail... He just changed position of a selector switch...

  • what amp is he using???

  • Man Paul sure can emulate and play some great riffs, as well as find some badass tones.

  • I played a real music man and a sterling side by side and I could notice different was 5 way switch and better neck.

  • they only have a 3 way switch?, bridge PU, both PU's, neck PU?

  • best job ever

  • musicman is expensive lol

  • actually the ax40 doesn't have locking tuners only the ax20

  • lol that guitar is made to play van halen

  • Very, very nice line. I am actually in love with PSRs but I could get one of this and be quite happy.

  • They look like wolfgangs

  • @darthvaderyoda

The axis (this model) was originally made by Musicman for Eddie. When he went to Peavey I suppose he was looking to a make a similar guitar.

  • this was Eddie's guitar before the wolfgang so he modeled it after this guitar

  • I wish they made these damn things with double cutaways and 24 frets...

  • love Music Man...Sterling line is actually pretty good.

  • Nice Sound Paul you always make it look so easy .

  • nice bright sound

  • Sounds incredible, although he's probably running it into like a 4000+ dollar amp lol

  • Guitar needs to sound good before it is plugges into any amp.

A shitty guitar will sound bad plugged into a $4000 amp.

    Music Man's are AWESOME axes.

  • depends on the pickups.

  • yeah man agreed, but listen to that sound he's getting, he has the brown sound. That doesn't come cheap.

  • Most of the brown sound comes from the guitar dude.

Listen to EVH's brown sound on the first album. Listen closely. It's VERY clean.

It all had to do with his guitar and his fingers.

No doubt the amp was crucial but it wasn't a make or break.

  • The reason for having a locking nut as well as locking tuners is because you still have to tune the damned thing before you lock the nut!

You string through the tuners, lock them down, cut the string and tune without having to make several windings around the post.

The tuning ease, accuracy and stability of locking tuners is not lost on a double locking tremolo equipped guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • hm why floyd rose locking studs and locking tuners??

  • easier to re-string and might be better tuning stability.

  • It´s a little bit out of tune, but nice tone tough, love the MM´s.
