Damn you panned the high hats 50% right? That seems a little much... 25 is more than fine... You have to think is the drums taking up the whole stage or only the center of it? If its only in the center then you really do not need to pan your high hats that far at all.. Snares are never supposed to be panned, Vocals, Snares, Bass, Kicks are always left in the center... Come on dudeeeeee
snare off center? lol maybe for certain types of music but certainly not for many, bass and snare always central unless aiming for an effect of some sort.
i agree with the guy on the video..but i disagree with the cymbols...when you are a drummer that likes lots of cymbols (ex. crash, ping, splash, med. crash, and a china), you gotta have the full deal. Full panning for everything and use the EQ to arrange the mix so they can be distinct.
I find that drummers are the only ones who really care about the panning of drums so I pan from the stool so it sounds like what they hear when they play and NEVER pan the snare off center.
I actually used to keep the snare exactly centered. Then I tried panning the snare to the left or right. (very little) It actually did come through the mix a bit better. I used to think that this is a stupid idea but I have seen engineers in lots of studios do this. I am working in Broken wave music and I have seen a few house engineers do this as well. If in a room with a drum set you will not hear the snare exactly in the center.
how do u do this from a lap top when it comes to micing cuz when u do drumming how does that work u lip on all the mics where do they go in the computer to an amp but how with like 6 mics and how do u record from an amp just plug a mic into the input on the computer and place the mic in front of the sweet spot on the amp
Hey When I lay down a track I want my drums panned the way I see them and its how I like to listen to the CD. For Video I like to hear the mix the way I see it. When you are panning a stereo track in protools, say you move the left panner over to the right. does it not take the left signal and move it over onto the right? When I pan in Logic. if I pan to the right eg. in only decreases the volume of the left signal leaving the right signal unaffected.

I pan the drums from the stool. From the drummers perspective. for studio recordings but I do it the way you do for live recodings
