  • He's good.

  • is the 6 stroke thing all singles??

  • @lollipopman70 yeah its supposed to be but once u get up there and catch up to his speed u would want to roll those doubles in the middle of the rudiment. its sick once u get it up to speed

  • hes so awesome, dying for a new song from them !

  • Just as a clarification for all you guys watching this video :

The verse of The Diary Of Jane was always played with one foot, as is stated in this video.

However, at the time this video was released, Chad was still playing the bridge with a double pedal. You can see that he is playing double bass if you look carefully at his left foot from 4:02 - 4:06.

But with his chops, he's probably started playing it with one foot.

    Sorry about any confusion!

  • @drummergod522 He is not playing doble bass. He is hitting the hi-hat pedal, you can see he is doing it before playing again the bridge! Sorry for my english I´m from Argentina :D ajaj

  • @aguzz132 Please watch Chad Szeliga drum lesson #4 part 3. He clearly says that he plays the bridge with double bass, but that he is working on playing it with one foot. He even demonstrates that he can almost play the bridge with one foot but that he hadn't perfected it at the time. Again, by now, he probably has it perfected, but, as I said before, when he recorded lesson #1, he was still playing the bridge with double bass. Chad is one of my fav drummers, but I'm just stating facts.

  • @TheAftermathWorld Well if he told you personally, why is this guy an idiot for asking?

  • @TheAftermathWorld hey idiot he's talking about the verse, not the bridge

  • Imagine what he could do with a doulbe pedal... =P

  • he is using zildjian a custom rezo

  • you're the man, Chad

  • Chad is the man!!!!

  • i wanna use that fill but i couldnt see it!

    it sounds sick

  • I just got down Diary of Jane with one foot! Breakdown included...needless to say I'm psyched lol

  • fckkkin bridge the bell part is so frustrating i dont get it !

  • the chorus is to hard =( i cant keep up

  • awesome skillz

  • Yeah! He's a Sevendust fan.

  • BIGMAGS99 your exactlly right:) awesome to know how people are good at knowing there shit i for sure uses it in until the end and maybe some newer dear agony stuff but yeah chads a beast

  • Amazing drummer... so much groove in everything he plays

  • 4:54

  • Just Great.

  • chad is one of my fav drummers!! lov BB!! :)

  • He is so fucking sweet..

  • he doesnt explain how to do that single pedal kick thing i wana no how

  • Holy shit, I didn't know he didn't use a double bass. Chads fuckin amazing lol

  • he has a double bass, but can play without one

  • @BAHchikabowwow Why the "lol" in the end?

  • it would've sounded relly good if he just keep going the bead 09:13-09:16 its relly awsome

  • he does not use heel toe. it is slide technique.

  • o really, thats wierd i play toe/heel?

  • so sorta like a hip hop sorta snare?

  • Just a question:

In the bridge, does he uses double pedal or still he uses his amazing fast triplets ?

  • Very good question........I was confused about it a first too. He uses a double pedal in the bridge not fast triplets. However, in drum lesson #4 pt.3 (search it, its up on youtube), he shows us that he's been practicing with one pedal, and he's got it down pretty well. Even I can play it with one pedal, its not too hard with a little practice

  • @drummergod522 LOL! Thats funny because in this video he specifically states he uses a single pedal., not a double pedal.

  • @superdale Well if you had looked up Chad Szeliga drum lesson #4 pt. 3 like I said, you would see that he does in fact use a double pedal for the bridge part. Even in this video, he only specifies that he uses a single pedal for the verse.

Still, I'm not taking anything away from Chad, he is a very talented drummer, and one of the fastest single bass players out there.

  • Well, believe me, the verse and the bridge are, at least for me, the most difficult pattern i've found of single pedal, really needs a lot of speed to be able to play that blazing fast triplets, i can do doubles maybe i reach that speed, but never with that power and consistence :) well as you said, just a little practice

  • @drumcovers15 He always used the heel toe method or slide method to create fast hits on the bass drum.

  • even when he's doing it slow, he makes it look easy, but its hard as fuck

  • this guy is truly an inspiration

  • can u show me how to double with a single pedal. plz. i can't it.

  • It's almost like a little flick motion with your ankle and a slide up the pedal board. It takes a lot of practice, and of course, most people have their own special way of doing it. I'm sure you can find a video on here for a general technique.

  • Hey... i was totaly fucked up from doubling on the pedal ... i was really desperated .. because i can´t did it.. bud now finally i know how.. the trick is .. the first kick you play with your heel ... and second with your tip.... it´s hard to describe.. you must try it :o) .. just hard step on your pedal with heel.. and then glide up with your tip.. and it will work :o) just little practice... but how can i play tripplets ? ... that´s some serrious shit to play :/

  • to drummerboyc6

  • if we are on the same page, its called heel/toe technique.

  • its called heal-toe...look it up that shuld help u learn tripplets

  • Na. You Don't Need Heel-Toe For That. Just Get A Bounce, Its All Toe. Practice.

  • you're right, it's not that hard, i went to a guitar center store and tried it.

  • It's kind of hard to put Chad Szeliga with all the rest of those Drummers too cause of their wide spread Genres.Chad Szeliga mixes Artists like Chad Smith,Danny Carey,Bonham and many others, and puts into a Rock form, which you don't ever see these days.

  • I agree. He is also really able and not afraid to tell you where he got inspiration for certain things. He really listens to everything in the rock world but also is a real drummer and anything he likes he uses. His kit setup is very much of a fusion drummer which i dare to say he is only in his own little manner. He uses the fusion model of stick from vater and for a guy like him just fits because he really has good hand speed. I can be fast but i don't like a light stick lol.

  • At 1:38 ish he does tht kwl little whip thing with his hand which he does alot, is he just whipping his wrist, or is he doing some kinda stick trick in his hand as well cause it looks gd lol :)

  • its a spin. basically let go of the stick with all of your fingers except for the fulcrum while just turning your hand palm up then back down. its hard to explain without showing it

  • hey where can i watch the drum lesson #2?? i cant find it on youtube...

  • there's always that stubborn douche bag that has to name off Peart or Bonham.

This guy is good... real good. So get over it and jack off video of a wanking solo Neal Peart.

  • Honestly, I think this guy is way better than them.

  • Thanks lol. It's true...

  • chad and neil (three days grace) fucking rule

  • Chad is way better than any drummer I've ever heard, and BB is the best band I've ever heard hands down. Solid all the way around.

  • Dude I love chad but there are hundreds of better drummers out there.

Check out danny carey, tomas haake, josh freese, derek rodd, and tomas lang.

You'll be blown away if chad is the best drummer you've heard.

Not tryin to be an ass.

  • Those drummers are pretty good, but I mean you can only be so good at drums, and I'd say Chad could play whatever they can. I guess what I should have said is I like Chad's style of drumming the best. It's all a matter of opinion really, and I respect yours.

  • Ha.

I get what your saying and completely agree with you.

It's nice to see that not everyone will argue about pointless stuff and be close minded.

    Ha.

    Peace.

  • FUCK YEAH! FRIENDSHIP POINTS!

  • great drummers, but you really can't compare different drumming styles. especially since danny uses a double base(Chad doesn't), Josh is more fill driven(chad is more rythmic and coordination based), derek also uses a double pedal(Chad doesn't) and metal isn't a genre that requires the beats to be great sounding, just hard and super fast; and tomas is super showy(we don't see Chad show off very often). so thus this debate is quite pointless.

  • let me take the double pedal back, he has them, but he rarely uses it.

  • well, actually, he does have a double pedal and he uses it relatively frequently. And yes its true, its pointless to compare different drummers with different styles. All these guys mentioned above are extremely skilled in their respective genres

  • i agree with you he does have them he uses yamaha flying dragons but all the beats he does on double bass he is able to do on single but he doesnt it on double to conserve energy at the shows.

  • @bigmags99 well i wouldnt say thats completely true. He is fast with one foot but can't play everything with one foot. In my opinion the drummer that plays fastest with one foot is George Kollias

  • Well, Chad DOES use his double pedal, just very rarely. He really only uses it on faster triplets and basic few second LRLR stuff.

  • hes a very good instructor. he should make a dvd on how to play their songs and stuff if he hasnt already

  • FUCK YEAH, I suppose he surprised anyone here...

  • lol chad and jeremy are both good man or neither of them would of played or be playing in BB

  • Chad's better

  • amazing

  • Good drummer.

  • i like his snare demo

  • did he use his 13*6,5 snare here?

  • yeah he uses 13x 6.5 snare

  • chad szeliga is one of my all time favorite drummers!!!!

  • Breaking Benjamin isn't even Hard Metal,it's more like Alternative Rock,or even their own blend of Genres.

  • i want to say something but im at a loss for words....AWESOME is an understatement when describing chad....hes F-ing UNREAL

  • chad's a phenominal drummer but i dont know i think jeremy (their drummer for the 1st two albums) was better

  • you honestly think Jeremy was better... are you serious? Chad's rudiments, technique, musical use of his equipment, chops, beats, fills, and anything else you can think of blow Jeremy out of the water.

  • wtf that was fast

  • I see, like rudiments for set bass. Interesting. I get it now, thanks

  • OMFG He is sooooooooooo fast. Gr8 drummer, I don't care what anyone else says, but he can play this in a real concert unlike many other pro drummers.

  • Omg amazing

  • Wow one pedal nuts for his bass parts

  • You don't listen to metal much, do you?

  • Almost everything I listen to is metal, I wouldn't put Breaking Benjamin under metal though, more like hard rock. Most bands that play that fast on the bass use double kicks though.

  • NICE MAN THIS HELPED ALOT! PIRAGAAASH
