@lollipopman70 yeah its supposed to be but once u get up there and catch up to his speed u would want to roll those doubles in the middle of the rudiment. its sick once u get it up to speed
Just as a clarification for all you guys watching this video :
The verse of The Diary Of Jane was always played with one foot, as is stated in this video.
However, at the time this video was released, Chad was still playing the bridge with a double pedal. You can see that he is playing double bass if you look carefully at his left foot from 4:02 - 4:06.
But with his chops, he's probably started playing it with one foot.
@drummergod522 He is not playing doble bass. He is hitting the hi-hat pedal, you can see he is doing it before playing again the bridge! Sorry for my english I´m from Argentina :D ajaj
@aguzz132 Please watch Chad Szeliga drum lesson #4 part 3. He clearly says that he plays the bridge with double bass, but that he is working on playing it with one foot. He even demonstrates that he can almost play the bridge with one foot but that he hadn't perfected it at the time. Again, by now, he probably has it perfected, but, as I said before, when he recorded lesson #1, he was still playing the bridge with double bass. Chad is one of my fav drummers, but I'm just stating facts.
BIGMAGS99 your exactlly right:) awesome to know how people are good at knowing there shit i for sure uses it in until the end and maybe some newer dear agony stuff but yeah chads a beast
Very good question........I was confused about it a first too. He uses a double pedal in the bridge not fast triplets. However, in drum lesson #4 pt.3 (search it, its up on youtube), he shows us that he's been practicing with one pedal, and he's got it down pretty well. Even I can play it with one pedal, its not too hard with a little practice
@superdale Well if you had looked up Chad Szeliga drum lesson #4 pt. 3 like I said, you would see that he does in fact use a double pedal for the bridge part. Even in this video, he only specifies that he uses a single pedal for the verse.
Still, I'm not taking anything away from Chad, he is a very talented drummer, and one of the fastest single bass players out there.
Well, believe me, the verse and the bridge are, at least for me, the most difficult pattern i've found of single pedal, really needs a lot of speed to be able to play that blazing fast triplets, i can do doubles maybe i reach that speed, but never with that power and consistence :) well as you said, just a little practice
It's almost like a little flick motion with your ankle and a slide up the pedal board. It takes a lot of practice, and of course, most people have their own special way of doing it. I'm sure you can find a video on here for a general technique.
Hey... i was totaly fucked up from doubling on the pedal ... i was really desperated .. because i can´t did it.. bud now finally i know how.. the trick is .. the first kick you play with your heel ... and second with your tip.... it´s hard to describe.. you must try it :o) .. just hard step on your pedal with heel.. and then glide up with your tip.. and it will work :o) just little practice... but how can i play tripplets ? ... that´s some serrious shit to play :/
It's kind of hard to put Chad Szeliga with all the rest of those Drummers too cause of their wide spread Genres.Chad Szeliga mixes Artists like Chad Smith,Danny Carey,Bonham and many others, and puts into a Rock form, which you don't ever see these days.
I agree. He is also really able and not afraid to tell you where he got inspiration for certain things. He really listens to everything in the rock world but also is a real drummer and anything he likes he uses. His kit setup is very much of a fusion drummer which i dare to say he is only in his own little manner. He uses the fusion model of stick from vater and for a guy like him just fits because he really has good hand speed. I can be fast but i don't like a light stick lol.
At 1:38 ish he does tht kwl little whip thing with his hand which he does alot, is he just whipping his wrist, or is he doing some kinda stick trick in his hand as well cause it looks gd lol :)
its a spin. basically let go of the stick with all of your fingers except for the fulcrum while just turning your hand palm up then back down. its hard to explain without showing it
Those drummers are pretty good, but I mean you can only be so good at drums, and I'd say Chad could play whatever they can. I guess what I should have said is I like Chad's style of drumming the best. It's all a matter of opinion really, and I respect yours.
great drummers, but you really can't compare different drumming styles. especially since danny uses a double base(Chad doesn't), Josh is more fill driven(chad is more rythmic and coordination based), derek also uses a double pedal(Chad doesn't) and metal isn't a genre that requires the beats to be great sounding, just hard and super fast; and tomas is super showy(we don't see Chad show off very often). so thus this debate is quite pointless.
well, actually, he does have a double pedal and he uses it relatively frequently. And yes its true, its pointless to compare different drummers with different styles. All these guys mentioned above are extremely skilled in their respective genres
i agree with you he does have them he uses yamaha flying dragons but all the beats he does on double bass he is able to do on single but he doesnt it on double to conserve energy at the shows.
@bigmags99 well i wouldnt say thats completely true. He is fast with one foot but can't play everything with one foot. In my opinion the drummer that plays fastest with one foot is George Kollias
you honestly think Jeremy was better... are you serious? Chad's rudiments, technique, musical use of his equipment, chops, beats, fills, and anything else you can think of blow Jeremy out of the water.
Almost everything I listen to is metal, I wouldn't put Breaking Benjamin under metal though, more like hard rock. Most bands that play that fast on the bass use double kicks though.
He's good.
