Where did you find this?? I would LOVE to have the entire Midnight Special episode, with Marianne Faithful and The Troggs. I was 10 when I first saw it, and completely fell for David Bowie, this otherworldly, beautiful creature. I almost have it memorized as I watched every time it was on - unfortunately this was before VCRs were readily available. Thank you, thank you for posting!!!!
At 4:22, one of the audience people pull off his blue bracelet, then all the way through to 4:58, he only has the yellow one. Then the blue one comes back when he says, "Yeah, time!"
How does he get his blue bracelet back? Lol the kid rips it off of his arm, and then it's there when he finishes. Does someone give it back? Haha I just thought that was funny :P
Time - He flexes like a whore. Falls wanking to the floor! The Sniper in the brain......Regurgitating drain! Incestuous and vain, and many other last names. Who can come up with ridiculous and original lyrics like that other than the great David Bowie!
neATNEatneAT,,,bowie is the mutts nutS,,,,,IS THere any perfORMERS AROUND THESE DAys???RoknrOLL IS DEAd,,,,,,only taKE THAt caN SAve us know??{only jokiNG}OR Are we????
@piskey01 Oh, i´ve read on wikipedia that on this specific performance he changed it to "Falls swanking to the floor" so they didn´t censor that part.
What I love about Bowie is that I feel like he understood what music and art is all about -listening to his music has something moving deep inside you, something that most other artists on radio today cannot acheive. Bowie is just priceless.
I honestly... This creature... He is more than human. You cannot fucking touch David Bowie. He's a lyrical genius, he keeps his audience entertained, he's innovative, he's a beautiful freak... One of my best friend cannot stand David Bowie and to him I say "Are you deaf? Blind? Numb? Ignorant? Or is it something more serious?"
Teee amooooo Bowieee♥
No J I havemet and had wonderful covos with La Bowie...in Toronto backstage at S to S concert...Oy! slapped my arse...so I thought "now I can die"..and second time with Iman and a bodyguard...he is so approachable..anyway..email meI miss you Jeff...hard hugs

people keep talking and talking about his androgynous looks and avant-garde attitude and just forget about his skills as a musician. your sensibility must be more than thinking he's hot because of his hair and clohtes. just pay attention to this song's lyrics and melodies... he's good because he's a true ARTIST, not only a fashion icon or model of behavior.
@andrepancreas the legacy and importance of his influence on our world today is evident and surrounds us.the image and the characters were art and transcient but heightened the appeal.
@andrepancreas actually, it DOES matter. If it didn't, why would he do all those things? I love everything about this performance, including his singing, and etc. and his facial expressions, and everything... so...It doesn't mean that it's a bad thing if people talk about him being androgynous.
@lalamouse77 i didn't say his performance or his style doesn't matter. sure he entertains us and catches our attentions in many levels. these things contribute to build his personality as an artist, but this is not as relevant as his talent as a musician. i just get sad when people say "bowie is a genious, he's so androgynous!". no one is a genious for dressing like a woman. someone is a genious when writes "space oddity" at the age of 20.
Bowie was just doing what a lot of men have done through the ages who are too sensitive and caring in a world run by bland, heartless men--seeking refuge and solace in feminine mystique.
i think even he looks uncomfortable with where hes taken this theater to, after ziggy and aladin being so brilliant thank god america is just around the corner
Dudeofthedead75 is right. Bowie marched to a drummer of his own imagination. If you like this power and are tired of what passes for rock these days, you should check out the songs "Rotten Tooth Captain," "Closer to the Door" and "Quieter Than the Crowd" from a great New York band called The Ghost Tongue. You can find them on myspace or here on youtube. They kick ass live.
Bowie is one of those "forever" musical artists. He,along with Marc Bolan and Bryan Ferry were the 3 who were major influences both in music and as "gentlemen".
I like the line, "and all I have to give, is the guilt for dreaming" and "I had so many dreams and made so many breakthroughts" I don't know why, it's kind of nonsense but it's good.
@capablemachine It's not nonsense - that good feeling you feel is knowing there is a powerful meaning that David had with it and was able to convey the feeling in the music. That's what I love about his music. He conveyed his emotions so well.

If there was ever a doubt that Bowie is a genius this song should dispel it. Pure excellence and great to see this rare performance of it. Thanks for posting.
don't see why this is thumbed down, but i'd sort of agree. Bowie was realllly taken in with Dylan in the early days, and the media manipulation Dylan did in the 60's definitely influenced Bowie. even as late as 98 when Time Out of Mind came out Bowie was still singing his praises.
people just dont want Bowie to sound like less of the god that he is, Ind I agree that he is a god, he just needed someone like Dylan to give him the mindset, and Bob dylan is good at that.
its thumbed down because i was sounding like I agreed with the original poster, but I don't really. Its just that all of the could-be Bowies around the states turn out to be emos and Chris Crocker. Dylan was good, but he didnt seem that manly.
Where did you find this?? I would LOVE to have the entire Midnight Special episode, with Marianne Faithful and The Troggs. Androgynous both male and female into

Asexual without sex from another planet and for the detractors that saw this image

people just dont want Bowie to sound like less of the god that he is, Ind I agree that he is a god, he just needed someone like Dylan to give him the mindset, and Bob dylan is good at that.

its thumbed down because i was sounding like I agreed with the original poster, but I don't really. Its just that all of the could-be Bowies around the states turn out to be emos and Chris Crocker. Dylan was good, but he didnt seem that manly.
