Freedom of Religion includes freedom to marry according to your religious beliefs. Why is the government regulating a religious institution? If a specific religion deems that homosexual marriage is acceptable who is the government to tell them they can't allow it. That is a violation of freedom of religion. Don't forget freedom of religion applies to everybody not just Christians.
George is right, freedom of worship is not as permissible as freedom of religion. He is in denial if he thinks there is anything that can be done to stop gay equal rights. The Bill of Rights doesn't explicitly guarantee freedom of religion, it implicitly guarantees it by saying the government won't pass any law that stifles religion nor will it pass any law that has a religious base. Do I think that government should force religious institutions to hire homosexuals even accept them into the congregation, no. But at the same time, gays and lesbians should be allowed the same legal protections that heterosexuals have under the law, which includes marriage.

What organization pay for these materials, for the organization, for the paychecks of these kids? The only Christian group I've seen is Jews for Jesus, and that is rare.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are human rights declared by our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence. I believe that these same human rights apply to homosexuals as well as heterosexuals. An argument that this wasn't the intention of the Founding Fathers doesn't hold water- as it wasn't their intention to include African American's either. I do love your work with PF.

Many were opposed to it, while others owned slaves. Some of those later renounced slavery and gave them back their freedom. I just thought I'd bring that up.

Gays do not have equal rights and I can tell because there are people still trying to ban it. So some people obviously think of it as inferior. Part of the so-called "gay agenda," for example, is to use our public schools to try to convince children that homosexuality is normal and acceptable: this is not equal treatment, it's propaganda. Further, the "gay agenda" in my state, WA, includes SPECIAL rights for gays that NO OTHER group gets: the right to "express" characteristics of your minority status without fear of discrimination at work or in housing. That is not equal at all.
@pudgenet I must have missed that lesson because all I have gathered from my public school experience thus far is that homosexuality is unnatural and unacceptable. To say that our society does anything but attempt to ostracize and demonize these people is absurd. Of course there is a movement trying to glorify homosexuality but isn't that to be expected when these people are under attack? Also there would be no need for such special privileges if there were no discrimination in the first place.
@pudgenet Homosexuality is normal. What the schools are trying to do is make a more comfortable environment for people that at some point may want to come out and say they are gay. They are not going to make people gay by doing this. People do not choose to by gay they are born that way. No one would willingly be gay knowing the discrimination that still takes place in this world.
@pudgenet I graduated high school two years ago. I never had any class in the last 15 years (since I started school) that tried to convince me that homosexuality is normal and acceptable, so I don't know where you are getting that info from.

It is a fact that most rapes and cases of sexual abuse are committed by heterosexuals. So far, the statistics suggest there is far less abuse of children when their parents are gay. If Christians want to promote heterosexuality as the basis for marriage among their own group, that is their right, but here is no reason to make the rest of the country abide by their prejudices.

Freedom of Religion includes freedom to marry according to your religious beliefs. Why is the government regulating a religious institution? If a specific religion deems that homosexual marriage is acceptable who is the government to tell them they can't allow it. That is a violation of freedom of religion. Don't forget freedom of religion applies to everybody not just Christians.

The Bill of Rights doesn't explicitly guarantee freedom of religion, it implicitly guarantees it by saying the government won't pass any law that stifles religion nor will it pass any law that has a religious base. Do I think that government should force religious institutions to hire homosexuals even accept them into the congregation, no. But at the same time, gays and lesbians should be allowed the same legal protections that heterosexuals have under the law, which includes marriage.

The reason pedophilia is not a right is because a child is not entitled to the same rights as an adult. A child is under the care of adults and does not have rights but rather protections from adults.
However, he makes a good point about bigamy and the implication that homosexuality be seen similarly. Only he is wrong. Bigamy should not involve Federal disapproval. Same with homosexuality. Adults should have liberty and any other interpretation of our founding documents is misguided.

Homosexuality according to every PROFESSIONAL mental health and medical association, is not a dangerous or bad thing. Allowing gay ppl to get married, infringes on religious freedom, as much as the Civil Rights act of 1964. Mormanism is a religion, they didn't like black ppl- it was agianst their religion for black ppl to be considered fully human- is that ok? Wat if I make a religion that says white ppl are evil? then wat?

@3martijns Why do all religious people have such profound hate for Atheist/Agnostic.. I just don't understand, does there religion not teach tolerance and understanding, treat thy neighbor how you would want to be treated yourself, it seems like anything that is contrary to their own religion is grounds to seek the death of the person or to have profound hate for them.... I just find it funny that in there pursuit to follow their religion, they go against it.

Wow, could a speech ever be taken any more out of context? Yes, there is freedom of religion, but there is also the text that states religion must stay out of government affairs. So, practice all you want, but don't push it on to America because you have no RIGHT to.

You can't walk down State Street in the 'Loop' area of Chicago without running in to cheery, smiley faced youths asking 'do you have a minute for gay rights?'. They carry clipboards and handout materials and often people are signing up for something with one of these youths. My question has always been - who funds this? What organization pay for these materials, for the organization, for the paychecks of these kids? The only Christian group I've seen is Jews for Jesus, and that is rare.

@GPlynton I don't understand your point here. Acts that affect another innocent being negatively should be condemned. That is what parents are supposed to teach. Most gay activists preach tolerance of the homosexual community to the public. They encourage it, not enforce it. Weigel is really confused as to what homosexuals are really trying to accomplish. His view is distorted due to his religiosity. It is not Christians who decide that homosexuality is wrong, nor any religion.

Mr. Colson's is an exercise in Newspeak itself. His argument rests on the notion that Clinton intentionally conflated freedom of worship with freedom of religion. His deceit is his unsupported assumption that one "can only conclude that she knew what she was saying," i.e., Clinton makes the same distinction and disingenuously used the latter to hijack the former. That is intellectually vapid. I can only conclude that Colson knew what he was saying and he is the one seeking to warp our thinking.

Mr. Colson- I hold you in the highest regard. However, I do disagree with you on this point. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are human rights declared by our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence. I believe that these same human rights apply to homosexuals as well as heterosexuals. An argument that this wasn't the intention of the Founding Fathers doesn't hold water- as it wasn't their intention to include African American's either. I do love your work with PF.

@jmcosby1 With all due respect, I have to disagree on a point here. You can't group all of the Founding Fathers together and say that they didn't intend to include slaves. Many were opposed to it, while others owned slaves. Some of those later renounced slavery and gave them back their freedom. I just thought I'd bring that up.

Todd, I'm going to guess that the desire of one religious group to stop incest or bigamy or pedophilia isn't as offensive to you as their objection to homosexuality? So we CAN agree that there are certain natural laws that our nation should obey. You must make the case as to why homosexual behavior is acceptable under natural law. You can't.
The gay agenda is real bc gays want to be afforded rights that clearly cannot be! There is no good, or natural reason to allow gays to have false rights.

@Blairtim69 Not trying to start an argument here but I have to take issue with the idea that homosexuality is genetic. After reading your post, I read a little online from some various sources and the evidence seems to point in a different direction. To make the broad statement that all of the "nation's doctors, psychologists, councilors, and psychiatrists associations all agree it is natural and normal" sounds dubious at best. I mean no insult but your argument doesn't sound accurate.

You can check their statements on their web sites.
Nothing I wrote is wrong.
The scientific conclusions from the studies will have detractors of course, but they are all sound.

@eternalwolf777 i would say some things are not necessarily genetic but heavily influenced by parents. for example all my friends had the same political views as their parents (as did i) at a young age. or in the words of the offspring: "fat parents they have fat kids too" (lol)

@Blairtim69 I don't know at what university you studied, but I actually remember when homosexuality was reclassified as "alternative" & it was a political move by the APA, not biological. The problem is that people think if they spread a lie & repeat it often enough, people will believe it. You are spreading propaganda, either because you believe it or because you want to believe it, but it has NO basis in fact.

This is not about equality because homosexuals already have that. It is about trying to get attention and have others be force to say what they are doing is okay. We don't have to do this. Why would we? What they do is dangerous even to themselves. Homosexuality is linked to sexual abuse of minors, more so than any other activity. So it is not discrimination to say that homosexual practices are a negative to our society.

@pberiault you are ignoring the fact that heterosexuality is also linked to sexual abuse of minors as well as basically every other type of sex crime which, by your logic, means that heterosexual activity is also has a negative impact on our society. while we're at it, since the majority of sex crimes are perpetrated by men rather than women regardless of sexual orientation I declare that being male is a negative to society.

If you're going to point out all the wrong things on the gay agenda I can name 10 times more wrongs on the straight agenda. But I don't see you arguing that. Gays do not have equal rights and I can tell because there are people still trying to ban it. So some people obviously think of it as inferior. If someone acted gay in school, you don't think there wouldn't be people who would exploit that? And where in schools is this propaganda that I've never seen in mine?

@pberiault To make such a statement is to also agree to the idea that heterosexual practices are negative to our society because they have been linked to rape and the spread of some STD's. Yin and Yang. Where there is bad there is good but to be foolish enough to convince yourself that there is anything equal about denying these people the rights to marriage based upon who they love is absurd. We are an interconnected species and in oppressing them we are only hurting ourselves.

@pberiault No. child abuse is linked to child abuse. A homosexual person is JUST someone who is attracted to the same gender.. This is the extent of it. Being homosexual doesn't make you a pedophile any more than a heterosexual person. A gay male may lead a different lifestyle than a straight male, but socially and sexually, a homosexual relationship is exactly like one between a man and a women, though they just happen to both be men (or both be women). You are breaching upon ignorance.

Part of the so-called "gay agenda," for example, is to use our public schools to try to convince children that homosexuality is normal and acceptable: this is not equal treatment, it's propaganda. Further, the "gay agenda" in my state, WA, includes SPECIAL rights for gays that NO OTHER group gets: the right to "express" characteristics of your minority status without fear of discrimination at work or in housing. That is not equal at all.

@pudgenet I must have missed that lesson because all I have gathered from my public school experience thus far is that homosexuality is unnatural and unacceptable. To say that our society does anything but attempt to ostracize and demonize these people is absurd. Of course there is a movement trying to glorify homosexuality but isn't that to be expected when these people are under attack? Also there would be no need for such special privileges if there were no discrimination in the first place.

@pudgenet Homosexuality is normal. What the schools are trying to do is make a more comfortable environment for people that at some point may want to come out and say they are gay. They are not going to make people gay by doing this. People do not choose to by gay they are born that way. No one would willingly be gay knowing the discrimination that still takes place in this world.

telling kids that homosexuality is normal isn't propaganda if it's true. Whether it's really healthy/normal hasn't been conclusively proved, but it has been proved that many people are homosexual without making a conscious choice and it has been proved that many of them live happy and mentally balanced lives.

These 'gay agenda' things you complain about would not be needed in a truly equal world, LGBT people would be able to express themselves without fear of reprisal - which they currently do, hence the need for these rights being put in place, they are there to protect them from the types of homophobics that react violently or in discriminatory ways! You're right that it's not equal, but not in the way you obviously assume.

@ToddSurfsLBCA I do agree people have the right to "love" as they choose. Homosexuality should not be illegal or -- by govt -- discriminated against in any way. I am not in favor of gay marriage; rather, I am in favor of govt having nothing to do with marriage, instead recognizing "civil unions" for all, and "marriages" for none, and letting social institutions solely define "marriage."
That would be truly equal treatment, and since "marriage" is not redefined by govt, would offend few people.

@pudgenet So, you're in favor of re-defining marriage, to be a civil union between whoever wishes to view themselves as married. What gives you the right to change the meaning of marriage like that? It's unfair treatment to demand that traditional marriage be done away with to fit the GLBT agenda.
Government didn't create the definition of marriage, and then force it's definition on us-- it recognizes and protects the institution of marriage, because the family is the backbone of any society.
