Well, it seems the song’s sort of pseudo-patriotic. They mock the English working class’s (70s) attitude to freedom by making dreadful and silly things honourable, as the result people respect and value something that’s not really valuable. I don't understand about this song, this Clash hired new musicians for the Cut the Crap album after Mick Jones quit and Topper Headon was fired, they use synthesizers and drum machines, what the point of hiring new musicians then. Im American, but this is a great song though. A big fan of another British band called the Rifles as well

He regretted making that album, and firing Topper, because he believed the end of Topper was the slow end of the Clash. I highly recommend watching Westway to the World, as well as The Future is Unwritten. Both are great documentaries.
