It could have been everyone was busy getting ready for christmas and stuff. Cause I wanted to see all of those movies but I was busy with finals and christmas shopping.
I'm sure that played a part in it, as did the weather, but people have proven they will see a movie if it's good. Nothing I saw or heard about Yes Man, Seven Pound or the Despereaux movies created any interest to see them. Despereaux seems desperate to tap into the people who saw Ratatouille. But I and others didn't see it because it was about a rat. Yes Man? Carrey's been there, done that. As for Gran Torino, it has opened wide yet. If it had, I would have seen it.
I saw Yes Man the other day with some friends to take a break from my dramas that I was watching at home, I'm trying to catch up on my Scorsese. I agree with the one sentence review about quotability. I think there were a few quotes but they were all from Norm, who was the best guy in the movie.
I would have to agree, Yes man wasn't so great although i hoped it would be better. I always liked Jim Carrey movies, but really after Bruce Almighty it has gone downhill in my opinion. Exept before it the Cable guy was horrible.
Hmmm there don't seem to be any good movies coming out. Why can't they release films in the UK at the same time as in the US? I wish I could go see these films but many are released 2-3 weeks later.
I like Movie Math. Perhaps you guys should do a thing on classic good / underrated movies? Anyway keep it up, your show is quality!
hi corsair773! Thanks for the awesome show suggestion! We will now be doing Beyond The Trailer specials, so suggestions are more welcome than ever! BTT will be doing some awards stuff in January and February, but perhaps afterward we can do some classics stuff! I'll keep everyone posted!
Next week, i'm guessing is another bad weekend for Hollywood. Benjamin Button looks boring and will flop hard. Spirit looks stupid and ripped off the Sin City look. Valkyrie will be another bomb for Cruise. and I"m guessing Marley and Me, and Bedtime Stories will come out winning next weekend.
To charrose11: I think they try not to tell us what it's about (Seven Pounds). (And, yeah, I wanna see it too. Even without knowing yet what it's about. ^_^) To portalplayer: I think Benjamin Button looks good. It might be a movie that catches on more on cable than at the theaters, but it looks like quality stuff to me, from the trailers. Bedtime Stories and Marley & Me, I think look cute but not very likely to be remembered very well after a few years. Except by kids. Maybe.
for some reason, i think Benjamin Button might be a surprise bomb. For all his celebrity, Pitt isn't bankable. People right now are looking for more fun movies, which is why Bedtime Stories and Marley would probably do well. Kids and families would love Bedtime, and Marley would be a good date movie.
To portalplayer: Actually I think you're probably right about the fun movies being the ones to do well right away. I just happen to be aware that *sometimes* the movies that *last longer* are *not always* the ones that did the best when they were new. (But, yeah, you're talking about what'll do well *this Christmas*...so, you're probably basically right.) (I'm thinking about going to see Benjamin Button myself soon...but, it's not as if just me, or just me and my mom, will help much.)
I love yes man and Jim Carey.
