  • please tell me what's the tune?

    thnx

  • A good idea might be to draw lines marking pitch :3

  • Can you tune it?

  • The ultimate grand master of ribbon controller play was Oskar Sala playing his Mixturtrautonium. He managed to play in tune, though. :)

Just kidding. You just need to practice a lot. Violin beginners don't sound better. Let that be a comfort to you.

  • Hey. Great video. I used a ribbon pot on my Gakken too.

I've got a video of me doing a cover of a sepultura song on my channel - check it out. You can see the ribbon mod. I'll put a proper video up of the instrument soon.

  • nice thank you

but I think there is a bad tone.........

    good luck

  • hey is it possible to plug a keyboard based controller in to the sx-150

  • How did you get the ribbon controller to work with your synthesizer?

  • dude that's badass! where did you get the plans to make it?

  • one of the most awesome videos in youtube, it makes you lol, but also you can learn a lot of things

  • Yes, I've got more wider range than original slider. And tune knob at my left hand can shift it's tune. We can get so low pitch. but it's not easy to play bass part with ribbon.Bass part needs more correct pitch in the music, I think. I must more practice to play this.

    But it's so fun!

  • Wicked slide down at the end. Does the ribbon controller give you more playing range, or does it just take the original range and stretch it out into a longer playing surface?

  • @SirDJMuziek Ribbon is not easy to use in your music or so. but I feel like that ribbon will give us more playability and possibility for not only synth but also music itself, if you practice this as same as violin or something. Unfortunately, we have no time to do for the things that no one knows that is it OK or not. So, I'm enjoying as a hobby.

  • Understandable. I was just wondering about the pitch range, as in how high and low the notes go. With the ribbon controller, can you reach higher notes than the orginal playing surface?

  • It sounds like a carzy and drunk duck!

  • hey I enjoyed the demo. Yeah pitch needs works but we all need practice. One question what sort of pot do you have on the controller to interface with your synth?

    Keep it up!

  • this makes me LOL

  • looks like your local dj was right)

i wouldnt play it better anyway.

  • Interesting demonstration! ( but OMG the intonation was painful.)

Maybe a longer controller or a narrower span on it would enable more precision.

  • how much was the ribbon controller

and where did you get it??

  • Much higher than SX-150 itself.

I build it myself. it's hand made.

  • If tchaikovsky gets back one day, he'll say "man, you're out of tune"

  • Yes, man, I think so too. But ti's so fun. Try it for yourself. You may can't stop doing this.

  • @jansonmorr: Yeah, Tchaikovskys skull is losing all his teeth at this very moment and then his skeleton will be turning around in his grave in eternal agony.

  • man, you're out of tune....

  • it's like playing violin or some other fretless instrument. cool. I want one

  • Yes, I agree it. We need more practice as same as violin players do. It's not easy. But so fun!

  • nice controller but no bit of talent

  • Oh men!! Check your pitch!!!!!

  • Yes, it's not easy to get pitch well. I need more practice to play this.

  • I'd like to see how one of these works with the softpot from SpectraSymbol.

  • Yes, I also think so. And I'm trying it.

I will post my another ribbon controller.

  • there is obviously a good market for an inexpensive ribbon controller. I'm really surprised nobody has taken advantage of it yet.

  • Thank you for the comment.

Material for the registor is so cheap. It's just anti-static prastic bag. But I use stainless sheet for another side of it. We must cut out it from more big size. It cost over $12. Another material didn't work well. And I also cut the teflon tape from another big size. It cost around $16 or so. I build case from aluminum flame and wood.

Total cost was Higher than SX-150 itself.

We should better to get the 'SoftPot' just like 'ScottStites' did. It's cheap and nice.

  • Yeah, baby, yeah! Nice ribbon controller. You play better than I ever could.

What did you use to make the ribbon?

  • Yeah Yeah, it's groovie!!

I use Anti-static plastic bag. I cut them in ribbon style. It's 700k ohm in 600mm X 20mm or so. Let me know what do you use?

  • I'm using a product called SoftPot made by a company called Spectra Soft. 500mm length is ~20K or so. Less than 500mm is 10K. It's nice stuff, but narrower than what you have there. I wish it was as wide as the controllers you make.

  • Wow! Thank you for your infomation. I put an order to the site. It looks so nice. If you made it wider then it will sense not only position but also pressure of your finger, I think.

Is it easy to slide your finger on the staff? Mine is so hard to silde. So, I add teflon tape on it. (it's not easy price!)

  • Ah! Teflon tape! I've been wondering about Teflon spray - never thought about Teflon tape. It slides easy enough, but I would still like it much more "smooth". Baby powder works extremely well, but it is messy. I tried silicon spray (wet and dry) - eh, no difference really. But, all in all, it's not too bad in it's original form. At high ranges, I think any ribbon will sense pressure, but in that case, I use the "AutoGlide" to help prevent detune on release.
