The only way this thing makes the 5d into a cinema camera is by looks. All they are doing is making a DSLR look like a top notch professional camera. So if you have money to blow, why not. But I would never put one of these rigs at priority.
I actually own a Canon t3i that I use to film at my school. What I am trying to say is that, A red rock rig is never needed. You can build one of these things on your own if you get creative enough, sure, a mattebox is another story, but you don't NEED a mattebox to make a film.
HAHAHAHA... I just check the price for all these extras for the rig, if you are going to pay this much to convert your SLR to a video cam may as well just go buy yourself a pro video camera.
this is ridiculous, The first bit was fine with the eyepiece, but really, you are better off with a dedicated vid camera where you get proper audio and shoulder mounted
I love my full frame 5D. However, it is not a movie camera
@mrct50 it looks like that gap regarding what is considered semi professional and pro is small today. d7000 is all many of us need. go to... freedslr . com remove spaces and take a way to bring home a Brand New Nikon D7000
+1 for the "Chinese spy, sell system at walmart next year 200 dollar" it's a real bummer that zacuto and red rock make such expensive gear for the indies, we shouldn't be paying the original prototype price but we are, that said I'd take the Red Rock gear over zacuto.
@ikickedapanda well honestly i woudnt say ive seen it but i didnt said that you cant zoom in what im saying zoom ins are like made to look like an oldschool film example quentin tarantino or robert rodriguez wch really are good what im saying generally you dont unless you want it to be stylized and of course it boils down to intention of the shot ..so its a shot seldom use for a straight linear narrative or a straght forwrd story telling :) cause dolly ins after all works better
@LaDolceLingua Alot better. It has a much faster work flow, shoots 24fps, 25fps, 30fps @ 1080p also 50fps and 60fps @ 720p. Also it puts most actual professional camcorders to shame in low light settings. The XhA1 shoots ONLY interlaced footage and has a shitty mounted lens.
@jeffhurdphotography thats a thesis, I would like to hear stuff like: you don't zoom, because....
by the way,why shoudlnt I zoom in? When I want to show a detail between stuff on a table I dont dolly in or step forward with the camera (what also would be really shaking without a steadicam).
@MrUnseen well in the film language and grammar zooming in destroys the suspension of disbelief in the audience..its like zooming in reminds them whoa "theres a camera movement" wich shoudnt be camera movements shoudnt be noticble in the standard form of film grammar
@alienmode Or take wooden wagons replace all the wood with metal add an engine and call it "WOODEN WAGON 2.0".Cars are so outdated and expensive these days.
Red Rock stuff costs more than the camera does, LOL! Its just a bunch of rods and set screws, LOL! 2 grand for that? Really? You could probably go to a paintball store and get what you need for a fraction of the price.
Red Rock is cheaper than zacuto but they both are expensive as hell. If you just search a little more you can find this same rig for $2,000 dollars cheaper.
@feshberd there are many reasons to shoot jpeg especially if you are shooting professionally. In sports shooting raw can mean filling up your buffer and missing that $10,000 shot. Also when you are at an event like the Olympics or Super bowl photo editors will buy and use whichever shot comes in first, If you shoot RAW the extra few minutes you spend processing your shots means they will go with someone else's shots which I assume could be the same for red carpet events like the Oscars or Cannes
These items are very expensive from RedRockMicro and if you're on a serious budger I'd consider the IndiFocus and Indislider products, check them out.
OUCH not hi def ...its only because if you have a focus puller, basically he needs to see what the camera man is seeing ...is it not SDI ??? that would be better ....
@fnfantabulous You were wrong Bro. The spy is actually the guy that shows up at the end of the video. I met him last night at K-mart; he was offering it to me for 150 and indeed he said it would work much better if I happened to have 4 hands. Or at least 3 of them.
HOLY CRAP!!! they make it seem like.. oooo hey.. check out all this cool stuff yo can have and switch from this to this to this....
but they forget to mention.. "BUTTT your gonna have to give me your liver, and ummm prlly if your a guy ur left or reight tesicle.. and if your a girl your left or right ovary.. "
lol.. still amazing stuff.. keep it up RED ROCK! :]
It's called good salesmanship by Brian V. there. If your rep isn't enthusiastic about the products, how do you expect your customers to be? Heavy and sometimes unnecessary but the cool redrock rig with my A1 makes me feel legit so that I can't quit... buying more of their stuff that is =] It is pretty cool actually. It gets you and your crew to care about the film and feel special working when you have serious looking equipment.
The only way this thing makes the 5d into a cinema camera is by looks. All they are doing is making a DSLR look like a top notch professional camera. So if you have money to blow, why not. But I would never put one of these rigs at priority.
CAMer0nxx 3 months ago
@CAMer0nxx If that is your thinking you are incredibly mistaken.
1. Matte Boxes are NEEDED for any type of film work so you can save money on ND and other fiters.
2. You have never filmed with an hdslr is that is what you are thinking, these rigs make the camera like an ENG camera and much more stable.
3. Red Rock gear is very expensive and I agree that it is WAY over priced....
But Camera rigs with these HDSLR ARE ALWAYS a priority.

Reddish photos, bad JPG files, bad colors even in raw!
magalphoto 1 year ago
@magalphoto I don't know anyone stupid enough to own a D-slr and shoot JPEG,
and of course the colours will look bad in raw, that's the point, there is no processing done to the picture.
I bought my first D-slr about 5 months ago, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.

@tman152
You're absolutely right, I think my comment came off too radical.
I should have specified a little more, my bad.
I meant it in a very general way, as in the people who down right refuse to shoot raw for any situation.
I shoot raw almost exclusively, but I will switch to jpeg if I'm doing a time-lapse.
I personally have no need for burst, and have all the time I need for post processing.
but realize some people need this for their work, once again my bad.
