Yep, you're right. People seem to forget what the true definition of a moped is. Not saying a moped can't be built for dirt. It just needs tuning, gearing, shock adjusting and knobbies, and you're in the game.
I know. Moped is mopo in Finnish. Mo=moottori (motor) and po=polkupyörä (pedalbike or bicycle) I know it sounds stupid, but they haven't changed the name. It's been called a moped from the time of 50cc's with pedals till these days. Nowadays when you say "I'm riding a moped" in Finnish, you don't mean you are riding a 50cc bike with pedals.
Where I live in the US, just within the past few years, my state had passed legislation to include 50cc 'scooters' in the same category as 'mopeds'. Which means, no license, no insurance and no tags. That's fine. But, when these new riders get a 'scooter' and they want to argue that it's a moped, just because some asshole in state, who never even driven one before, wants to call it a 'moped'. It pisses me off. I feel those tickets I received years ago for driving a 50cc scooter was unjustified.

No. Every 50cc bike is called a moped in Finland.

Just because it's called that, doesn't mean it is.
Actually, it's an acronym for 'motor' and 'pedal'. So, I hate to tell you. You Fins, are WRONG!
