Good conversion, though, but from 1982 to December 1983 there were real Monte Carlo diesels (on the G-body chassis), the V8 version being the quickest (as opposed to the V6 version).
@TheChevycummins The oil fill cap is about an 1/8 inch from the hood and the oil pan in a 1/2 from the cross member. I had to add a air bleed to the coolant system since the rad. is lower than the motor. Its tight.
@tdk468 Sound like its tight. i bet that rns alot of heads and pisses off those people who think diesels are strictly for pulling. Lol, its like they have never heard of power and mpg combined. Its the mpg that is the selling point in the diesel trucks anyway. What does the monte get? is it chipped or anything?
The 5.9 litre Cummins 6BT seems to fit comfortably in there. I would've thought it would've been a snug fit with not much room for anything else. I've always liked diesel engines.
Turn the Ac on! I want to convert my 79 Ta to diesel but i dunno if a 12valve will fit. My original idea was an lb7 duramax but if a cummins will fit, I'd prefer that. Btw, if you haven't had any trans work done, look into a 93% efficiency billet converter. Going lower on the stall really wakes up the cummins.
@r682723b you honestly dont know anything about diesel do you?....that engine is stronger, faster, more powerful, more efficient, lasts longer, and can handle more abuse that your gasoline ever can.
@thebus49 yup but with my budget the 12v swap isnt looking to likely in the future right now the goal is to do my top end swap on my 383 get my 6 speed then from there the deisel swap depends on if i find another car to swap my 383 into so i can keep a daily
i love this this guy just jumps in and starts this thing up and drives away like he dont even know he has a truck motor a CUMMINS in his car god damn you must ba a proud owner i would be son big ups to you SIR!!
@BigL513 Really a swap like this requires a fair amount of engineering knowledge that a hillbilly would never have, or at least more engineering knowledge than you have literacy.
It sounds like a tractor, but that's a good thing. A stock 427, or 396 Monte might sound cool, but wouldn't likely pull a 3 story house very far without damaging itself. Also, a 427, or 396, probably wouldn't go half as far on a tank of fuel. With all that torque, you should be able to do a 20 hour (I love exaggeration) burnout with ease.
Ooooooooooo... I see a burnout link. Time to click it :-)
@montecarloguy1246 The 454 may be easier to drive, but can you emagine the fuel milage difference? With the cummins i bet you could pull 20-30mpg easy in that little car and still have fun :)
you are stuipid that is a good car would be better if you put a 454 in it and it wouldint had cost as much plus you had to chand=ge a lot of wireing gas tank electric and fuel gage
ha ha dam good customizin next is some jammer 150hp injectors stage 5 tranny rebuild kit and a programmer and twins s362/475 batta boom batta beem u gots it
You got me i felt bad right after saying that, thank you for not using another choice of words in your responce .To answer your question honestly i had been burned at a shop where i worked on performance and race cummins Mechanical and electronic injection systems, i know how reliable and powerful with turbos, they are and can be!! gasoline engines run too hot to live longer than a diesel!! It was the people i worked with nice job really
nice set up and to all those that complain that a diesel is under there theyre stupid u can set that engine up to run at least 600hp and still get over 20mpg try that with a gas pile of crap!!! lol and on top of that still being reliable being a cummins!
As great as the fab and work was put into this is. I dont like it. My opinion. I think it ruined the car. My dad has a 70 Monte and he has the turbo fire 350 in it and thats how a car like this should stay
I think the "diesel muscle car" idea is pretty badass, given the ridiculous torque output. I love the high rap of a gasoline V8 as much as the next guy, but these babies are definitely menacing as well, especially with the turbo whistling alongside the low rumble of the diesel. The Duramax Camaro in another video just sounds absolutely incredible.
I like the car itself but I just don't know... a diesel engine in a muscle car just seems weird. Don't get me wrong it's a cool project, I'm just a bit of an originality Nazi I guess.
@ironman1092 are you stupid?... diesel engine.... lost power with the weight of the engine? how about gained power through lack of wieght from the car, although its a big car, it does not weigh in at what a ram3500 4x4 does.
this is the most awesome cummins swap i've ever seen (car or truck)...! but that's not really the issue. the real issue is did you do anything to the front suspension to allow a 70's monte to carry the near 1100 lbs weight of a diesel block...??? i just bought an old '91 ford truck (351w) that i plan to repower with a cummins in a few years, but it's a F350 dually with 1-ton chassis and suspension.
Did you retrofit the front end? The 5.9 has some weight. I was told you can use the stock spindles with heavy srpings, not sure though.
