I saw Ermanno many times and can attest to his wonderful voice and musicality...
In Trovatore, he sang the passages before "Ah, si ben mio" pianissimo and with a beautiful core of sound... perfect. Then, held the high c about 30 seconds in "Di Quella Pira".
I was sitting in the 30th row at the Met and when he let loose with "La vita mi costasse" in Tosca he knocked my head backwards against the seat.
I had the distinct honor of working with this most marvelous tenor for many years and formed a lasting friendship which I treasure. What wouldn't we give to have a singer of this quality and heart today -- even at this age!! A miracle.

Very nice. I think Ermanno is about 69 here. Still sounds very
good. Core 'ngrato is one of the best Neapolitan songs.
