  • @Kelly14UK yeah, in a way I'm sad that Led Zeppelin had to end that abruptly. But, how could you ever replace Bonzo?

  • Led Zeppelin could have never replaced Bonzo. Once someone leaves the band, they are left with a gap. They were too tight knit backstage to have ever continued on without one of their peers.

  • @iamthewintertime In their case that was the case. Agreed. Too clever a drummer.

  • 'We all know that if John Bonham had been there, he would have done what had to be done... You know, you need a drum that big to be able to hit it so hard. Bonham - you won't get another one of him.' - Charlie Watts.

  • I was working, and as I was driving to pick up some equipment for my work it came over the radio, it was September 25 1980, 1 day before my 18th birthday, I grew up listening to Zep, and they were and are my favorite band, it hit me so hard I pulled into the 7-11 and called my girlfriend, I said no party or nothing tomorrow, it just floored me, took her 20 minutes to make sure I was ok to drive. being a musician myself for 40 yrs I can say any drummer worth his weight in salt bows to Bonzo.

  • All that shit about jimmy being into the occult may of played a part in his death. What a load of crap! People drink and die all the time .

  • saw Led Zepplin in 1979 at Knebworth, fucking great.

  • @vladimir1341 Caught them I think in july 80' at the Franfurt festhalie

  • Hearing this still makes me sick. When we heard that rock's greatest drummer had died we knew instantly that the greatest band in rock history no longer existed because there was absolutely no replacing anyone in Led Zeppelin. I hope God holds you in peace my brother.

  • @3434arc1 Keith Moon was better.

  • @RnSTutorials ...??? at what?

  • @coltsuperocean10 Drums.

  • @RnSTutorials ...doubt it! Keith even said it himself that he was a lucky chancer drummer. I suppose that pisses on your bonfire then?

  • @coltsuperocean10 Not really. John Bonham was pretty good but I always thought Keith Moon had more spirit and passion. Plus there was a lot more drum solos that always sounded better. I mean The Ox/Cobwebs and Strange > Moby Dick.

  • i never heard this till someone told me on the school property near nightfall...

  • this ranks up there with the news of John Lennon's death in my opinion, tragic death that shouldn't have happened

  • @ledzelda9 John Lennon: where am I? God: You're in Heaven John.

JL: Oh Bugger! God: Not to worry, John, I've been setting you up with a kickass band all year. We've got Carl Radle on bass, Keith Godchaux on Keyboards, Bon Scott on lead vocals, and Bonzo on drums!

  • rest in peace john

  • i remember when this happened.....even though i was only 8

  • RIP Bonzo.

  • Bonham was one of the best.

  • .."the best rock drummer of all time"..nuff said..

  • No doubt, The Best Rock-n-Roll band of all time...If you don't agree, climb out from under that rock and take a shuttle to the moon. Thanks for all the music Bonzo, JP, Jimmy, and Robert. My dog is named after John Bonham.....He is a boy pit bull whom loves children and would never, ever hurt anyone...His name is BONZO. To all ZEP fans, peace out and keep listening to the #1 band of all time. There will never be any group to top or get the props they got and/or still receive to this day.

  • R.I.P. MR. BONZO....THE GREATEST DRUMMER EVER...!!

  • @JohnHenryBonham1948 - dear Bonzo - Greasest rock drummer ever - God Bless him - he is buried just up the road from me at St Michael Churchyard, Rushock , Worcestershire. England

  • insert me here

    i'm just a fucking drummer

    my my my

is this like somebody thorough from the hey lease hemmerstein odeon

  • This was my birthday :(

  • @Rockmaster2112 Like the actual date!?

  • @1aggiesrule No, 10 years after.

  • This truly is the day the music died

  • That DJ sounds like Rod Serling. That having been said, I was only 10 when Bonham died, and I will never get to see Zeppelin. I may get to see Page and/or Plant and/or Jones, but without Bonham there is absolutely no Led Zeppelin.

  • @Zepplant awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i'm sooo sorry!!!

  • Still hurts like hell to hear news announcing Bonzo's death. Somehow I knew it was all over, it felt all over, just knew there would never be anymore Zeppelin. I was 21 that sad day so long ago, yesterday I have never stopped listening to my Zep and I never will.Thank you John,Jimmy,Robert and John Paul. I love You.

  • @HardRockDrummer666 actually you're wrong on a number of accounts again- there's no proof that Leferve found Bonham- just speculation...its known JPJ found him- the best record of this is the Peter Grant bio...as far as your theory of DOD- wrong again- the rehearsal ended near midnight on the 24th and more to the point, the point, the coroner in England set his time of death on 9/25- you're ill informed so please stop passing pad information...TIA

  • @HardRockDrummer666 you're really embarrassing yourself- to put forth the BS theory that Bonzo died on September 24th is not just ignorant, its insulting to Bonham's family....the only thing worse is using wikipedia as a source- you should close down your sorry website- you obviously are an amateur Led Zeppelin fan that would rather spend her time wearing her pajamas and typing on the internet all day than actually researching the facts of the matter..sad, really sad...

  • @Zepplant AND... For the RECORD... John Paul Jones is quoted as stating: "Benji (LeFevre - Led Zeppelin's Road Manager) and I found him. It was like, 'Let's go up and look at Bonzo, see how he is.' We tried to wake him up... It was terrible. Then I had to tell the other two. In fact, everyone was in particularly high spirits high spirits that morning. Then I had to break the news to Jimmy and Robert. It made me feel very angry - at the waste of him."

  • Hard to believe that Lennon would be killed barely 2 months later.

  • the day that the music died

  • so sad. :( makes you love him even more

  • Bonham died in 1980... It all makes sense now why the 80s were so weird.

  • I remember this day. I was 19 years old, in college, going watching tv in my dorm, and the news came on that bonzo died. It took me months to get over the fact that the greatest rock n roll drummer ever is gone...

  • just think if jonny bonzo was still alive today, led Zeppelin would still be rockin out like in the 70s

  • 3:20 that is some low quality audio yet it sounds great.

  • The ABSOLUTE worst horrific day in music history!!

  • I was on my way to school when the news came on the radio. My friend and I turned around and went back to my house to get stoned and mourn the Mighty Bonham. That awful day the music died along with a great band and a great man.

  • Bad year. Lennon and Bonham within 3 months of each other.

  • @bashfulbrother and marley

  • Boy,1980 was a Real Shitty year..John Lennon,Bonham,Bon Scott,Mt. St.Helan's...

  • @MrHideyoursheep ...and of course when America sold its soul, and elected a bad actor named Ronald Reagan for president. Between the deaths of great rock stars, and the election of Alzheimer's Ronnie Reagan, 1980 was indeed a very bad year.

  • @666reasons2killU bad year???? bad decade, hell bad rest of the Millennium and still without ZEPPELIN, this Millennium sucks too. damn, what a waste. what devistation. still never got over it. even with the O2 show, still, jason is great, but he is no john.

  • @fancyfripouille Agreed, Zeppelin without Bonzo (the heartbeat of Zeppelin), is just not Zeppelin. Same as with Moon the Loon & the Who, Bon Scott & AC-DC, and so forth. Music and life in general has deteriorated since 1980. :(

  • @666reasons2killU yeh- we were better off in the 40's when Zeppelin were being norn as humans and FDR sat in his wheelchair, defecating and drooling on himself with brain rot while his carpet munching wife ran the nation!!! All hail liberal hero braindead FDR!!

  • 1980-ROCK Music lost Bon Scott,John Bonham,John Lennon

  • 1980-ROCK Music lostBon Scott,John Bonham,John Lennon

  • And not long after, Lennon. Terrible days.

  • @annikee59 Before Lennon

  • Led Zeppelin has the distinction of disbanding honourably. Everybody knows it's not The Who w/o Keith, and it wouldn't be Zeppelin w/o Bonzo.

  • @Zepman2393 yes, but many of those reports are actually from the 25th....the reports started hitting the rock stations in the US about 3PM on the 25th, not the day later...remember them like it was yesterday...

  • Swan Song

  • Without the internet, this is the type of radio announcements we sat around and listened to..., in complete shock for days.

  • john bonham- forever the man. september 25th is the day the music died

  • The day before my 13th Birthday. I was gonna see them with an older(16) friend in the Seattle Kingdome in November or December that year. It would have been the only time I would have seen the as the "True" Led Zeppelin. I saw Page and Plant in 95 in Vancouver...but I'm sure that didn't even come close to seeing them when they were Zeppelin. The Stones claim the title of Greatest Rock n Roll band...but I know the truth

  • @MrSistermaryelephant , The Stones suck ass! Led Zeppelin are the kings of rock n roll! Jimi Hendrix is a close 2nd.

  • @amstell13

    Thank You!

  • @MrSistermaryelephant No the stones suck compared to Led

  • Ive been looking for audio on Bonhams death I was only 4 when this happend I cant thank you enough for sharing this rest in peace John

  • DURRRRRRRRRRRRR.

  • I lived in Chicago then. Chicago radio had similar tributes. I remember that day like it was yesterday. Very sad day....

  • thanks for upload

  • Absolutely brilliant video.

  • Glad you liked it, its sad but I felt people would want to hear this.

  • Interesting. Grew up listening to WMMS.
