  • hit it like a baseball period

  • IS A BEAUTIFULL SHOT

  • Excellent

  • ASS

  • About the accent. I find it funny that lots of American shows/news subtitle a foreigner speaking English where in other countries we just listen closely and still get the message. Tsk, tsk. It's like taking an escalator to the gym.

  • I had a crazy thought. IF Federer had Gasquet's backhand, how many grandslams had he won in plus?

  • @Scorpan44 if he had gasquet's backhand, his forehand wouldn't be a killer.

  • 37 people roll their wrist on their one hander

  • genius

  • my forehands the best in my county. my backhands (1 handed) good but awfully inconsistent. my 1st serves (90-110mph) awesome (best in county) - my 2nd serve is really really bad (around 40mph on average).

    any help plz - coaches - p

  • @bilalaslamful just keep on practicing your second serves. hit a million second serves

  • @bilalaslamful Hit your second serve just like your first serve, but with more topspin.

  • When you climb the stairs u move 1 leg and then the other.

that is what this video explains. nothing .

  • sweet gonna try this out, thanks

  • great video ... Federer has perfect balance and timing, and holds all of his power until the last second when he explodes through the ball. Perfection.

  • best backhand in the game

  • Comment removed

  • I find this usefull as i am training to play but he is using only 1 arm to hit the ball

  • I like the looks of Agassi's two handed backhand better. That one hander looks too refined and dainty like the one by Sampras. Think of a skirt twirling. When Agassi bends low and ropes it down the line, that's good tennis.

  • @DexterHaven49 Skirt twirling? I'd kill you in a match with my one handed backhand :D

  • @mistersexytime OK, just be sure to wear a skirt.

  • the follow through is awesome

  • Excelente, los comentarios deberían estar en español

  • you sound a little like stephen hawking :P

  • His back swing is the reason why he buries so many shots into the net. I know that he wants to hide that slice, but...too costly on the long run.

  • Great analysis man, you are to tennis what Guenther von Hagens (aka Dr Tod) is to anatomy....

  • i'd run around my forehand to hit a backhand if that was my backhand

  • Not many tennis players play with one backhand these days.........one backhand becoming extinct.

  • @darkness2121 i hate 2 handed backhands. there's no reason why someone shouldn't have 1 handers other than becaue they're stupid.

justin henin, one of the smallest girls on tour, has one of the most powerful backhands, and it's one-handed. so strength is not a reason to go 2 handed. stupidity is.

  • @sultanabran1 I think it's more of a stability thing. One-handeds are definitely not as stable as two-handers.

  • @Scorpio7500 true, but it's not always about the shot. sometimes it's about the pose and street cred. no commentating i've ever heard, sits in awe at a two-hander down the line. but they ALL marvel at roger or justine hitting one down the line. no kid says 'i want a 2 hander', they have 2 handers because they're soft and the coach is a jessy. but a kid WILL say 'i want a 1 hander and be totally awesome'

  • @sultanabran1 While I do agree about the "street cred" and the little kids analogy and all that, there's just one thing. In the 2008 US Open I remember the commentators marveling over Murray's backhand, and they've been doing it a lot for Djokovic's backhand for the last 2 years or so as well.

Still agree with what you're saying overall though.

  • @sasook Call me old fashioned or whatever. There's a reason why 95% of players go 2 handed, and it's not cause there's a disadvantage. But, one handers are SO DAM COOL. Do a search Federer vs Haas 2006 Aus Open and watch those two in a backhand crosscourt rally. It's brilliant.

  • @sultanabran1 Oh I totally agree with you, don't get me wrong. The one-handed backhand is arguably the prettiest shot in tennis. But, I just wanted to point out that there are some 2-handers out there who have very nice backhands (Novak, Murray, Safin, Agassi, etc.).

  • If there are 30 people who do not like the backhand of Federer there are only two explanations....

not know of the existence of tennis before seeing this video, or, more likely, are stupid troll

  • Fake !

  • Shoutouts to making up words. "Steadilizes" ftw!

  • Funny, he doesn't mention that Federer rolls his wrist on the follow through to impart topspin. You're suppose to impart topspin by lifting your knees and keeping your wrist firm. Federer has the strength and talent to pull it off, but his follow through is incorrect.

  • @theriokid I think Rodger knows a bit more than you idiot.

  • @alexbullification How do you know that, asshole? You don't know who I am or what I know. You're the idiot.

  • @alexbullification well the theriokid was rite...he is suppose to hold his wrist firm during the follow through...

  • @theriokid Well FIRSTLY, there really IS NOT AN INCORRECT way of hitting shot, cuz anyone can hit a shot..There are just BETTER WAYS but since Federer's method of hitting a ball has earnt him like 16 grandslams, I think he knows his shot is good enough.

  • @sxchighflyer Let's put it this way, it's not a "text book" shot. It would be a bad idea to teach that shot to an up and coming player because you need a wrist of steel.

  • As I have learned from a player having the priviledge of training with Roger, he does have a wrist of steel. The guy said it is amazing how actually strong Roger's wrist is and it especially shows with slice backhand.

  • Heres a key to Roger Federer's backhand, practice.

  • whats rong wth his accent he has good english

  • dude,i keep trying to do that but my shots keep going somewhere else

  • @igoturnose1 yeah .. mine too .. :))

  • I like this analysis. I think proper stroke production is a science and should be taught as such and this video made some very sound points.

  • The Gaston Gaudio´s backhand is the BEST!!! youtube.com/watch?v=bjIX-EhzEp8&feature=related

  • look at his left and right forearm. his racquet arm is like twice the size of his left.

  • Federer is amazing he uses the same right hand for everything, never having to use his left hand for a two-handed back hand. One hand all the way!

  • One of the most amazing things about Roger's backhand is how he holds his head down thru the entire stroke and after he has hit the ball. Just as a golfer is told to keep the head down so they can focus on the strike zone. Biggest mistake I find players make is moving the head as and after they hit. Visualize Rogers head postion as you head to the courts to practice JE Sleeth Level II Tennis Pro

  • I I've a backhand like this I do backhand decal !

  • just a thing of beauty

  • Good vid. Your accent is noticeable but perfectly understandable ;)

  • cooles video!

  • great video except for this dude's voice.

  • @mytennis4you nice video

  • I do like your german accent. The explanation is acurate. You sound like a documental narrator. My first language is spanish. :-)

  • @mytennis4you hah, don't worry about it if that's you. The only people who care about accents are idiots, any intelligent person will understand you. What is your first language if you don't mind me asking?

  • @mrcha0s: True words. My first language is German.

  • @mytennis4you it you spoke quite well i didn't even notice an accent.

  • @mytennis4you I thought you were indian don't mean to offend you :) I;m Trinidadian first language is English, We kinda got a Jamaican accent but accent is the wrong word in this case it's called Dialect

  • @mytennis4you your vids are good... I kinda learned play tennis of this vid and federer forehand analyse xD.

And ur english is fine... :D

  • @mytennis4you Are you Boris Becker? How many Wimbledons have you won?

  • @mrcha0s so why do you care about his first language, are you idiot?yes you are

  • @LeonardoTorino What the hell are you talking about? I'm just curious. English isn't my first language either and I'm not criticizing him so I don't know what you are trying to get at.

  • i didn't know eckhart tolle did tennis analysis

  • how does he keep his mouth closed everytime he hits the ball

  • :) Nice comments, american comrades! I am from Germany, country of Sauerkraut & pretzels. ...and I do like all american accents. Especially that one from Texas! American Girls ftw ! ! ! ! ! JESSICA SIMPSON the G0DDeSS ! ! ! !

  • @Puert4 Jessica simpson Goddess??.....that is a insult for a real Goddess...

  • I like the accent too. Knowing Germans are into precision, this analysis is a worthy tribute to that sensibility, and well done too!

  • ever noticed that the players with one hand backhand has a larger arm than the other? kinda creepy huh? lol my right forearm is like slightly bigger than my left.

  • I think that the guy talking is Leander Paes, a player from India

  • It's not Paes voice. I'm very good with voices and that's not Leander. I'm pretty sure that's not even an Indian accent.

  • Fed uses max body torque and drives the ball hard like no other one hander in tennis.

  • huhlooking for a guy who knows his way around a lady's body

  • Even the robot-commentator is impressed by Federer, lol

  • Love that right foot sliding before the shot to just the right spot. It looked to me like he stopped a bit short until I saw he was going down the line with the shot. What can you say - poetry in motion...

  • I guess he is German, just like me. We often sound a bit mechanical when speaking english.

  • Two handed Backhands luuk Uglyy Only Gurls shoud use two hands

  • what does "Gurls" mean?

  • one handed owns double handed

  • definitely not the case....

There is clear advantages for both styles. it's just what works best for the player.

  • Far out... way more goes into his backhands than i thought!!!

  • I use one-handed backhand

i what to hit like federer

  • Hey, at least he's bi-lingual.

    wait....you are, right?

  • hes tri lingual french english german. right?

  • I guess he is.

  • Actually, Federer speaks four languages. French, German, English, and Swiss German.

  • I was talking about the creator of the video, not Roger.

  • So relaxed. Wonder if he ever gets physically tired from playing tennis. :)

  • well ive never seen him proper fatigued! hes phenomenally fit!

  • @cheezheadZZ Australian open 2009 he was proper knackered

  • actualy puting spin on ur 1 handed backhand is very easy its more difficult to put TOP spin with 1 handed backhand but if u do it works

  • I love the Fed backhand, he comes down to the slot then pushes up on the ball, or brushes up the back of the ball, with a high finish, it's pull ans push. Excellant!!!

  • gr8 analysis....creepy accent

  • Too bad Sampras did not have this backhand, he would have won several more slams!

  • everything he does is so effortless

  • I find that a 2 handed backhand is very limited in that you can't put that much spin on the ball, do drop shots, and it can be weaker. For returning serves however, it can be more reliable.

  • I love the narrator's accent haha. it makes it sound that more wonderful. This is simply poetry in motion.

  • If i had a backhand like this, i would never hit a forehand again (=

    Well maybe

  • HAHAHA well put well put

  • the thing is, even if have nice BH like this, u can really difficultly make big accelerations except in diagonal using ur wrist to amplifly it.

I have this kind of BH and the most thing it does (and it's not to be underestimated ^^) is discouraging opponent to make huge acceleration on ur BH, as they come back the way + precision. It has a psychological impact really appreciable any level ;)

  • @napisanmax well maybe if you had a backhand like Federer's you might hit some forehands too =D

  • @napisanmax Then again, you probably wouldn't mind hitting a forehand if you had a forehand like him either, lol!

  • the only reason why i prefer one handed backhand (i play it) and roger federer is because it looks elegant. And, yes one handed backhand is not as strong as two handed but it s absolutely more accurate.

  • yea the only reason i do the one hander is for the same reasons. rfed just makes it look so fing effortless and beautiful.

  • @jushee19

    absolutely spot on...its aesthetically wonderful...

  • a two handed is not always stronger.

if you have to return a low bouncing ball, you can put more pressure on it with a one handed.

  • yes but if u learn to put spin on ur 1 hander

it can compensate for power, even be better

  • you know what..

it is easier to do topspin and slice on one-handed backhand than the two-handed backhand..

roger's style, strategies, and tactics was very difficult to nadal and other pros to know..

  • obviously a 2 handed backhand has more power, you can see that by watching tennis.

1 handed is more versatile, where it can be used greatly. todays game is all about forehand winners, so the power is given by forehand...backhands can be more defensive...

if you look at federer, his backhands and his backhand slices win him so many points. because of how he varies between the 2. 2 handed backhand wouldnt allow him to have that freedom.

but you have to use your strenghts to you advantage...

  • Actually, surprisingly, a one handed backhand has more power. You can get more rotation and more racquet speed with a one handed backhand.

  • You should hit the ball infront of your shoulder

  • I disagree , aside from connors and agassi, borg , most of the best #1's(men's) had a one handed backhand.

  • that can be tru, some people get more power from a 2 handed backhand, but a onehanded has more variety and easier placement than a 2, at least in my opinion.

  • lol ya i just started to be pro at slices, now i know wat ya mean by 1 hand being much more effective.

    Low shots = 1 hand

    High shots= 2 hand

  • forgot nadal ;)

  • But WHEN should you STRIKE the ball? Sometimes I'm too late. WHERE should the ball be when you actually hit it?

    Thanks!

  • Mmm depends on the height of the ball: Low balls are best hit late, close to your foot. Knee to waist high balls a bit more in front. Shoulder high balls much more in front. Just stand in front of the side fence and see where the distance is comfortable and the racquet head vertical. It also depends on your stance, a neutral stance hits more in front than a closed stance. With an open stance you can even hit close to your back foot.

  • shot the fuck up hahaha ... i coluld do the backhand with a sloppier position....hahahau dont have to do all that shit to be good....whatever comes out is fine....im sure he calculated all his postures before he did that backheand..haha.N OOO of cousre not...

  • Im wondering which shot has the most potential to be more powerful between a 2handed back hand and a 1 handed one. i can see how its easy to assume that the 2 handed one is simply because you're using 2 hands instead of 1, but i think there's something to be said about how a 1 handed one hits farther from your body thus giving more power (the same way an axe hits harder than a hatchet.) Anyone know for sure which is more powerful?

  • Without question, the one-hander is a far more powerful stroke. The length and leverage generated by the one-hander can't be matched with the shorter two hand stroke.

  • i remember a commentator saying one time a 2 hand has more strength but a 1 hand has more stretch and variety

  • One hander has more potential for power, but is far riskier if the ball isn't in just the right place. It's best to rally with the two hander and wait for the right ball before going with the one.

  • yes my friend, you are right ;) its not even arguable!!! :D

"they say its his wakness simply because aside his forehand anything is weak" well, thats true :D

    ok, ill see u around

  • What kind of society do we live in where a youtube video about a tennis player's backhand turns contains comments from people calling each other fags?!

  • They are just young kids happy to break the effect of the hormones by insulting everyone... but i might be wrong, there are sometimes old idiots too who are drunk or got nothing else to do with their miserable & pathetic life.

  • That's folks for you - give them something good like YouTube and they end up killing it!!!

  • HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

    omg

    so funny

    THANK YOU

  • @sherriffflood Fantastic comment

  • @sherriffflood thats online society where everyone think theyre thugs and swear they r ready to kill you..what you need is a good keyboard a wireless laser mouse,a large flat screen , then u can enter the fight

  • What backhand (other than Andre Agassi's) could?

  • maybe not but the federer forehand would

  • Too bad your serve, bachand, forehand, footwork can't control Federer or Nadal.

  • The voice over guy is fucking creepy!

  • one thing federer doesnt do for some reason is aim where you want the ball to o with the racquet. he completely opens his shoulders at the end

  • Federer has a picture perfect Backhand......Very graceful!!!!

  • Doesn't the title "king of tennis" mean you don't lose to someone whose ranked 23rd at your best tournament, on your best surface, during your best year when you've finally turned #1?

If that's your definition of "king", then I'm afraid some guy named Federer might lead a citizens revolt soon.

  • AHAHAHAHA. GETTING UNDER YOUR SKIN.

    HAHAHAHAHA.

FED THE KING. ALWAYS THE KING. Get used to it.

  • Not for long! Reply me in 2 months if I'm wrong

  • Dude, how can you think that Rafa is the king? He can't even play at Wimbledon. Traditionally, the player that wins Wimbledon is called tennis's "king". When Sampras won Wimbledon in 2000, Mcenroe called him "tennis's king" and "its grandest champion". Unless Fed smokes some weed, he'll be your friendly neighborhood resident King after winning Wimby.

  • Haha you got owned.

  • Not anymore! You'll see that in a few months!

  • You think Fed won't win wimbledon? Alright you're on. I think he can at least make it to the semi-finals. He has a pretty good record for that, but you know what. You're on. I think Federer easily has what it takes to win. Let's find out what happens.

  • No! You're misinterpretating what I said! I'm a total Fed fan! What I said was that Nadal's supremacy is over! Fed's the best! Ever! On any surface!

Class, Natural talent, Move, Forehand, backhand, serve, Everything! Perfection!

  • I was replying to El7IncA...

  • ah. gotcha.

  • Do you know why Nadal always touches his huge ass? Cause he has been using it the whole last night...And all Nadal fans like to be pounded in their asses! Fag!

  • damn I cant belive that there is fanboyism for tennis too.

Both of them are great players and have a playing style completely diferent and people shouldn't say theese things about someone that they dont even know

  • fedtards and nadtards are actually the plague of all tennis forums

a real tennis connoisseur will cheer these 2 monsters

  • Get a life.......loser

  • Theres only one word that can describe a backhand like this and that is... Beautiful! It is like poetry in motion, I have a one handed backhand myself and I can defanitly say it is harder to do than a 2 handed backhand.

  • Single handed backhands are very difficult to master, especially the timing. The two handed backhand is sometimes thought to be better because its more precise however it usually has trouble reaching low balls and the player's slice will not be so great as they are more use to using two hands.

  • so why not master both.

  • its more easily said than done.

  • I think his backhand is now the weakest spot , nowadays many guys has the better backhand than Fed ( just compare one-hand backhand ) like Stan, Gasquet, Blake, or even Acasuso. The weakest point is that Fed can't hit backhand down the line regularly, almost miss

  • All those guys you mention are not even on his level. Hence the reason why hes the #1 player.

  • federer is the only player i have seen who has a backhand so elegant and powerful that it can bust any Stan, Gasquet, Blake, or Acasuso.
