  • I've not seen part 1, nor do i think i'm suitably motivated to, but that was a well measured and erudite review. will be watching for your thoughts on part 2.

  • i loved it. i watched it with my housemate, who had never heard of it. she was doubtfull, but gave it a go. but she was rivited all the way through.

i loved it, i just loved it. but it didnt scare me like the 80's one did. but then again, i was only 7.

  • It was a bit too fast paced, like new Doctor Who.

  • That had to be the worst TV drama (let alone adaptation) I've ever seen. Cliched dialogue and characters, plot holes (not enough room to write them all here) in an overly simplistic storyline that removed all the intelligence from the novel. Plus Bill has a Triffid researching father now so I'm guessing we're going to get a happy humanity wins ending.

Thanks for the review but I just had to express my hatred for this terrible bag of crap the BBC has created in John Wyndham's name.

  • Yeah, loads of plot holes and unexplained things like what caused the solar storm.

  • Well that is never really explained in the book!

  • Still a plot hole

  • No, it's left to the reader to imagine what caused the mass blinding.

  • It's a film, not a book.

  • And it's based on a SMEGGING BOOK!!

  • Well let me see now...Has it got to do with something about the sun.....

  • Well duh. Only asking

  • Yeah, good stuff. I appreciate you putting this review online. I thought the opening scenes were really gripping, especially when Desmond attempted to give Samantha an abortion with a coat hanger in the back of his mini. Was it gratuitous? Was it unnecessary? Probably, but it also helped hammer home the theme of the piece, which can surely only be the theme of loss.

  • I thought that the older one was definately as you said, mind blowing

I think I was 12 when I first saw it and it was one of the most gripping suspensefull films I've EVER seen. Did it get any awards because lord of the rings did and it is way up there too.

The new version was good but could have been better, it was tooo cliche to have the bit, 'triffids are not the main problem... Oh shit you were right, they are'

  • Thanks for this. I'm a huge fan of the novel and the 1981 series. Looking forward to seeing this new one soon.

  • I thought it was a bit rubbish... the original version was way more suspenseful this version was just bland.

  • Thanks for the review, great insights we here in the States more then likley will not see DOT until late 2010 maybe sometime in 2011. Thx
