  • Aww shit just.bought one of these today

  • I've had this problem several times now. They replaced the shifting assembly. It did it again. They replaced the ignition assembly. They've given me a new key. I have been just fine for several months since the ignition unit was replaced and this morning it is doing it again. I have been stranded for a couple hours late at night because of this. This is the 4th time now within a year I have had to be towed because of this. So.. I haven't had great luck.

  • Dîd you get it fixed yet

  • @scotiaprincess how did you got out of this problm ?

  • @lezak2101 I brought it in and they replced the enitre shifting assembly. came up to 130 dollars and i only payed half my dealer paid the other half.

  • My 2005 pontiac pursuit doors & trunk locks seized. You can not unlock the car with the key & there is no power locks. Never in my life have I had a cars locks seize before.

  • they say there is a button on the bottom of the stearing coloum that u can reach in and press a button to release the key

  • im thinking about buying a base cobalt but the manual tranny

does it give the same problems?

  • all cause by that shifter thing being stuck shorted everything out on me if u dont watch it will do the samething to you.

  • comes to me lol.

  • my 2006 chevy cobalt did the samething my car only had 60681kms on it so it was coverd under power train warrenty but i had to still pay $105.00 dallers for deductable wich is crazy i did a hole new shifter assimbly crazy but if it needs done gota fix it another thing thats happens to my car is the ign wireing thing part number 88988353 it throw on my anti theft and could not start the car any more very crazy lol $300 dallers for that part they just put the wire back in for now tell the part

  • Me to now that I'm looking stuff up I might be getting ripped off the dealer wants $300 or more foe ignition replacement do to key not turning off/back so I'm going to call and see if they'v even tried som other things.

  • @1preludes dude look under your steering wheel, there should be a little hole, just shove a screw driver up it and it will release your key. :) after a while i just shoved a small drill bit up there and now my key comes out every time

  • Pursuits given me a lot of trouble aswell

ive already had to replace both my driver and passanger Window cranks and gears, the key gets stuck quite often, and ive had to replace the steering column, only has about 50 000 km on,

thank god i had extended waranty, !!

  • take out 4 screws in the console that he dident bother taking out and slide pin key into slot and re-assemble took me about 15 min all you need is 14mm socket. its right under the shifter rod there is only 1 place for it to slide thru

  • Mine does the same thing, but it is a standard transmission. The first time they replaced the ignition switch. Now it is stuck again. I have little confidence in this piece of shit to ever get me to work on time. I don't dare send my wife out in it because I dion't want her stranded

  • all i done was i took apart the gear shifter assembly & glued the switch that the pin in this video holds open to release the key. when this first happened i took it to a dealer, the supervisor said exactly what it was but the guy wanted to charge 80$ to find the problem, i drove it to my truck to run it over but luckily for my car the battery for my truck was in my car bc the battery died. now i dont have a problem with it. on the bright side i dont need a key to take it outta park. lol

  • im having the same problem right now

  • I had the same problem. I fixed the key problem by duct taping the switch shut. Still working on the shift issue. Just like in a manual, I now use the parking brake all the time.

  • This is very helpful, and yes you will totally drain the battery

  • this is happening to my kia.... the key wront turn all the way, and it wront get into park..

  • Go to "Pontiac Key Release Ignition Problem" from gr3en21 and read my comment. The newer GMs also have a small little port that you can open to expose the release button, but it can be pressed in with your finger. Look on the bottom of the steering column for the port; pop it open and look for a little white button by/above a black wire bundle and press it. Pull the key out at the same time...problem solved! Now that I've done my good deed, I'm going to bone the wife and then watch "bottom"!!!

  • those cars are garbage anyways ...

  • i had the entire shifting assembly replaced it cost me a pretty penny cause i dont know how to do it myself but it dont give me problems anymore lol...

  • did you get it fixed? i have a 99 Mitsubishi eclipse and i cant take the key out!! same exact problem. i can move the shifter without pushing the button. i did an entire interior swap so i probably knocked something loose.

  • yes i got it fixed. the mech reassembled my shifter box and then said it would just do the same thing again. unless he replaced a few parts in the shifter assembly. cost me 236 dollers including parts. If your still under warrenty it is covered.

  • haha okay nevermind i fixed t myself. i took the shifter off and there was a small white square that was under the button that was loose so i screwed that back in. the linkage was all fucked from me trying to take the key out without pressing the break. so i greased everything up and it works fine now. saved myself 236$

  • lol damnit!! .. well mine broke again.. so im gonna take a look at it myself like you did. the mech gave me 90 day warrenty on his work so i could also just hold him up to it.

  • underneath my steering wheel is a hole when i put my finger half way up it and behind a wire is a small square like button that push's towards the drivers side door. this release's the key from the ingnition cylinder. you're car may have the same device. And it would be in your drivers manual.

  • it is not broken as showed in the video.
