  • thank you..very useful instructional video..Now i'm learning the whole piece and i found some difficoult to play the fast line exatly before this tapping line: it seems composed with wide 4th interval stretch but i cannot realize if it's played with tapping or something else..i' ve seen the official transcpription but i think isn't right..can you help me?

  • So the pattern to the tapping is really similar to the tapping part in "Get The Funk Out", it seems.

  • Thanks man. I've got the tab for this, but could never figure out how to get the fingering and feel right. You broke it down perfectly.

    BTW, my teacher (a well-known guitar player) made me do the exact same thing. The only reason I'm not better is I gave up his advice after I started getting some recognition and never got serious about it again. Your technique is superb!

    Do you have some practice methods for increasing the speed and still playing it clean and precise like you do?

  • For the most part, I use a metronome and start very slow, maybe around 60. (I know this maybe be old, tired advice, but that's usually how I practice difficult runs like this.) Even if you have the coordination down at that speed, starting at a slow tempo for a while helps to build the strength of the left hand. I'll usually increase the metronome by about 8 to 12 bpms when I feel I have it. And sometimes I'll watch an episode of Family Guy that I've seen many times to make it mre interesting!

  • hey bro could u tell me what nots your hitting, when u do that slight change in the arpeggio? right at the end of the 4th one, when u hit a few high notes.

  • Ah yes, good point. I hope I can explain it clearly on here. The notes are all on the B string as follows:

    17(tapped), 10, 12, 14 17(tapped), 14, 12, 10, 12, 14, 19(tapped), 14, 12, 10.

    There's no picking, all legato there. I know it's hard to learn it in text, so please let me know if you are still having trouble.

  • This really helped me a lot. I can now put my fingers where they need to, but: there's something I'm still struggling with: I don't understand how to count these notes; are they triplets? Or quadrupleds? Because I can't get it to fit in either; there are 17 notes in the pattern you show, so is one of them held longer than the others, or how? Btw, thanks for putting this video up!

  • I know exactly what you mean! I don't know if there really is a definite timing to this solo. Usually when I practiced this with a metronome, I did them as 16th notes, and I played the last 3 notes (the descending triad) quicker, as 16th note triplets.

    So the count was something like this: 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 12 123 and that's how I repeated the pattern, if that helps any. I know it doesn't fit in very well, I think he just crammed a bunch of notes in.

  • You're wrong. "Get the Funk Out" as a very similar tapping part in it, but this is from "He Man Woman Hater." Go listen to the song. It's one thing to correct me if I'm wrong, but calling me an idiot for a mistake ( which wasn't actually a mistake) shows what a shallow person you are.

  • You are awesome man. I suck at tapping but this video which is made for really great tappers made me still understand while you showed in a slow tempo. Most people that make hard lessons make them too fast but you made it in a way where I (dumbass) even would understand. I will practice this though I really can´t play it for years. Keep making videos, I´ll subscribe.

  • Yep! I'm using a Line 6 Delay Modeler, which sounds great. No reverb though. Believe it or not I'm actually using a solid state amp - a Laney GC120C.

    But now I have one question:

    The changing to the position to the next tonal key you did not really explain.

    So what would be the lick WHILE changing? At which time of the pattern? AAAAAND: Which are the different positions? (When you just mention the frets it would be enough for me) :)

  • I use the palm of my right hand to mute the lower strings, and on my left hand, the higher strings are muted by my fingers in the area beyond my fingertips.
