A voice like that comes once in a lifetime. Makes me laugh when American Idol crowns a champ because they have no idea what a voice is. Today's artists lack the soul and heartfelt emotion that comes out of every song. 70's or not Karen's voice is far superior to Mariah, Whitney. Watch Katy Perry live and you will see errors but watch Karen and every note is musical perfection.
This song is so haunting it brings tears to my eyes...back in 72 i was in the 11th grade and my school put on a play..and this song was used as a backdrop..i will never forget it i..i fell in love with the voice..it would not be long jus a few short years before next thing i knew she was dead..i cried.
I love the way Karen moves her hips as she waits for her cue to start singing again in the middle of the song... Someone once called it a slow hula... Sexy as hel..
I really wish Richard would change his mind regarding their live performances. I think that this is their best live performance (entire concert), as it was still small enough to be intimate, and Karen still played drums! Also, Richard'd dialog earlier in the show is interesting. Oh, to have a re-mastered/hi-quality dvd of this show!
@greenwich1754 i strongly agree. karen sounded best when the instruments behind her were not too loud, as they tended to drown her voice out, like in some concerts. she is at the top of her game in this concert.
From an upbeat tune like Cinderella Rockafella to the haunting melody of Superstar. No one would've ever done it elegantly like how Karen does it here!
Wow. I miss her so much.

@blkshepherd It was actually more than a few years after 72 that she passed away. 1982 I believe.

Jim Anthony looks too big on Karen's drum set.

Her best performance of this song.... I love how Richard directs the band and orchestra while he plays. She was a goddess in voice.

you can hear Richard more in this. I wonder why he didn't contribute more vocally in most of the songs. He's pretty good.

They can't. Well, not anymore.

@mjsmtih204 I always thought that Ann Wilson from 'Heart' was 'the' female Voice.
Karen Carpenter is something else.
Karen sang like a bird that was yet to be found.
She played with notes....God I miss Her.
