  • This is one of the most beautiful and raw things I've ever heard

  • I thought Nick Cave wrote this?

  • All the Jesus-y Cash music isn't really appropriate for a man like Bukowski.

But at the same time, it fits. Hank is magic like that.

  • Hank y Cash... Greats..!!!

  • charles e cash.que maravilhosa combinação contra a bosta do mundo.

  • BUKOWSKI - LEGEND!!!

  • love bukowski's writing, he seems to hit the truth somehow

and i like j cash, this is a great song that i'd never heard before

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUK!! Keep drinkin' and smokin' and writin' and womanizin' in your afterlife. You are not forgotten.... -ST2

  • Well done.

  • Hank is my hero

  • adoro la voce di cash e adoro come prende a schiaffi il pianoforte

  • i love you drunk son of a bitch

  • great!!!

  • No one knows who Nick Cave is. But the good people know Johnny Cash and Charles Bukowski. Hank Moody is also awesome. Little known fact. Charles Bukowski's real is Henry Charles Bukowski. Which is where Henry Chinaski comes from. AKA Hank. It is also obvious that Hank Moody is a pop culture incarnation of the great Bukowski. Furthermore, if you did not know Bukowski's real name, you are probably some hipster and I am sure Bukowski would vomit in his grave if he knew hipsters were praising him.

  • Cave, Cash and Bukowski in one video. How good does life get?

  • Very well done!

  • Great slides of Charles, love Johnny singing to it..thanks for posting this. An awsome writter he is, loved his book "Woman" and the movie made about him, "Barfly"..Mickey did a great job..

  • This music, composed by Johnny Cash, is beautiful-exceptional

  • @TheElissaS composed by Nick Cave;)

  • didn't nick cave write this song?!doesn't mean bukowski isn't any good.

  • this is not a johny cash song!It is a song by nick cave and the bad seeds!

  • @frabalokavlitsa I pretty sure everyone in the entire universe (babies and aliens included) know this song was originally a Nick Cave song, but when Johnny Cash covers a song it belongs to him. The original version sucks anyway.

  • Yo, Charles!

You still keeping a stool for me in the Bar in Heaven?

  • I am reading actually "Factotum" and this wonderful tribute (music and images) helps me to appreciate better and to understand the universe if private individual of this writer so controversial. Thank you very much louse shares it!

  • @19olivier72 Flats, work places and bars in "Factotum" are hell. You have to read "Ham on a Rye" and "Women" later.

  • It seems like...Charles Bukowsky singin' in this song...

  • What's he smoking?

  • Spectacular combination of music I love about a man I love. Pure love and beauty. The world will never have another Johnny or Charles.

  • When I listen this my head is burning!

  • OH MY F....GOD!!!!

  • Every man needs a vice

  • good song choice i kinda find the same atmosphere in it like reading buk

  • Try reading James Thurber's "My Life and Hard Times" and see his drawings, Bukowski had to like this guy, and he did! A blast!

  • bueno,el verdadero rap

  • This version is way better than Nick's...

  • This would have been much better if you had used the original Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds version. As much as I admire Johnny Cash - his version of mercy seat sucked :)

  • yeah, baby..

  • God please help me!

  • And the mercy seat is waiting

And I think my head is burning

And in a way I'm yearning

To be done with all this weighing of the truth.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth

And anyway I told the truth

  • ...what's more, he WAS afraid of death and hated Johnny Cash. Whatever, haha. Great song and photos ;)

  • Hero!

  • Ce sont des génies comme Charles Bukowski, qui font du métier d´écrivain un intrument de dignité.

  • see: Os velhos da montanha

  • ciao, Hank. Reading your books has been the best part of my youth.

  • That...was epic

  • I have to respect a man who has PURPOSE! And Hank had it. Yes he was an alcoholic. Yes, he was a womanizer. Yes, he had his self-proclaimed "monkey-face". But he lived his life on HIS terms. We could all learn a lot from him! Bottom line: We're all heading for a long dirt-nap, so I say....Enjoy the ride! Reminds me of my favorite Sinatra quote.... "You die your way, I'll die mine."

  • you ugly fuck. you re my hero! god damn.

  • El un fauno!!!

  • Make love with me Johnny Cash while Bukowski holds my hand... I love you guys... RIP

  • @azurenscens Yup.

  • I sitting in my favorite bar drinking a scotch and water when the TV said Buk was dead...weird...when I got home, my bookmark was in a book of his short stories, the one that began "how I'd like to live to see the year 2000, and be eighty years old"...VERY weird...

  • A great tribute to Buk.

  • fantastic

  • I didn't really get the point, but fuck.... I'm a Bukowski junkie and I can't get enough of the drug.

    je

  • fantastico

  • "i don't hate people. i just feel better when they're not around."

  • I know that my life is patetic 'cause i wish to be bukowski...

  • everyone tries to act like they can relate to bukowski in some way. stop being being pretentious for the sake of being artful. bukowski hates us. he could find something wrong with everyone one of us. the reason his books are so incredible is you cant help but want to know how the head of someone who would like to see you hung by the balls really works. he was an asshole and a cynic. the people ive met in high school who could be like him, i hate. but i love his books.

  • @biggie12341

Isn't that the whole point...To try to understand a person you admire? That's not "pretentious", that's just the morbid curiosity of being human. If some brilliant man had never said, "What is this under my microscope, we wouldn't today have penicillin. Curiosity drives the machine, my friend... Otherwise, you might as well be a pet rock. Whether or not Buk would have thought I'm an asshole or not only makes him more intriguing........

  • @Supertramp1966 i didnt say the suriosity was pretentious i said trying to say you can relate to his work is

  • "People" say Buk hated Johnny Cash, they say he's rolling over in his grave, seeing his photos set a-flutter to this Cash song. I say... WHAT A PERFECT FIT! These men were both dark rebels, outcast to the fringe of society to work their trade, to write songs and poetry, never to be truly understood. They performed their craft in front of people who could never fathom the demons they held inside. Oh, make no mistake, these men were very much alike.............. RIP, Gentlemen.

  • the face of jesus in my soup. thanks, khreat.

  • Hanku,mám Tě rád...

  • very good!

  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • excellent

  • just awesome, enjoyed this so much

  • perfection..

  • Oh this is fucking awesome watch to arse drunk! :)

  • where did you find that drawing at 0:54?

    I can't find it anywhere.

    thanks

  • Doesn't get any better...Cash, Cave, Buk. Bravo.

  • goodbye Hank.

  • yes, bukowski disliked cash. i disagree that its a good marriage. cash is an eyesore next to bukowski.

  • SALUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ..oh my...it's just what i was looking for...while reading his biography trying to get to know him better...

    ...thanx...thank you so...

    xxx

    Peg@

  • i agree with chuckyfan10.but this is a bad ass song.and bukowski is my hero.good job!

  • You made the wrong choise, man. You can't make a Bukowski video with Johnny's music.

Bukowski hated Cash. He tought that Johnny was a fake man.

You can find his opinion about this in the book " Erections, Ejaculations, Exhibitions and General Tales of Ordinary Madness"

  • Regardless of what Buk wrote (he "supposedly" hated everybody famous) you can't argue that Buk and Aged Cash aren't a brilliant marriage. Both men went out on the top of their game.

  • Bukowski and Cash.. brilliant! *.*

  • To be correct:

    Words - Nick Cave, music - Cave/Harvey.

    Cash made cover on it.

  • thanks for more precise!

  • Nicely done!

  • two genius'

  • I'd love to have met the old man, but as I said, I either would like to met him when he was a kid or an old man, like 70 or shit.

  • Fockin A!!!!!!! kid what a great video!!!!

  • Well Done Sir!! Well done

  • Frank, all you r shit is a good idea.

Dont let them down. Today Drink@ Tomorrow go to see. I dont forget, or maybe

  • He walked alone not because he lost his way but because he wanted to. Long live Hank.

  • @MrBlackAeon

@MrBlackAeon Wanted to? He wanted his life and person to be different, better. But it was impossible becouse:

    1) He was Bukowski

    2) He would become one of those men he hated.

    Sad.

  • @MrBlackAeon

I would say: He walked alone because he lost his way. but he wanted to lose it.

  • @MrBlackAeon hank moody ??

  • @MrBlackAeon Kings make their own way which God calls as fate ; of which i call the destiny .

    Thank You ,

    Şan Döşkaya

  • @MrBlackAeon

thats right.he was a free man.

  • @MrBlackAeon By Hank, I hope you dont mean Hank Moody, cause he's a fictional WRITTEN character, he aint real. Bukowski however, is.

  • @EatShanklish You know what i'm talkin about. Enjoy the song.

  • my hero...

  • HANK HATE JOHNNY CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Celine= journey to the end end of the night for people who may not know

  • At 0:25, this is a picture of Louis Ferdinand Celine on the right corner. A famous french writer !

  • yesssss it's true!

  • Bukowsky used to listen classical music like Mahler when he was drinking beer all night long !! I don't think he liked Folk or Rock or coutnry or whatever. Good video and song though

  • Words by Cave, music by Cave & Harvey. Good song, but Bukowski would never have written a line such as "I think my head is burning". Anyway, the "Biblical Western" pathos is typical of Cave.

  • Bukowski & J. Cash were awesome, and this is a great song, but i'm afraid it was written by Nick Cave (music & lyrics)

  • the sound fits the pictures.Very nice picture Mickey Rourke with Buk at the set of "Barfly".Great movie-even Buk liked it although he didn't like movies at all....

  • "dark and cynical men"!?

seriously!? Give your head a shake.

  • Yeah, and pull yourself up from your bootstraps and move on with your life/

it's like a 45 caliber of cliche's fanning a room of broken paragraphs. Wow just a headshake and it's gone. Hmmmm.

"Out of the Darkness came the Light and that's when all the trouble began."

  • I can see a lot similarities between Bukowski and cash. Both dark, cynical men.

  • salud

  • i don't think bukowski liked johny cash. but that is alright

  • "I shot man in reno" short story. He thought johhny was just doing everything for entertainment

  • "there's only one thing to do for man in jail: let 'em out." yeah i remember that line. absolutely true.

  • Bukowski has guts to be so honest and open. Most of us are too inhibited or just too damn aftraid to really shine.

  • Una ovación de pie para tu video, dos grandes juntos, que buen video, en serio, espero que entiendas español.

  • I would like to point out that Johhny Cash did NOT write this song. It is a Nick Cave song Johnny covered while working with him.

  • Say what you want about his vices. Drinking...smoking...woman-izing...drinking...(did I say that already?)

Buk could write. I haven't enjoyed reading like this since I read Hemingway's novels...On pg. 142 in WOMEN....Great read...

  • this song has nothing to do with bukowski, who was a far better writer than Johnny, whose best song he didn't actually write.

  • pointless

  • To think you have one, you filthy fish cunt.

  • 'filthy fish cunt" ...lol

  • curtsy :)

  • What kind of pretentious comment is this? I equate people who don't appreciate Johnny Cash with children who torture animals. There's just something inherently wrong with your conscience.

  • There's something inherently wrong with people who attack others simply because they disagree with their worldview, you filthy fish cunt.

  • Ah, a brave internet "badass." Get out of mommy's basement and get a job, already!

  • I'd love to know where you live because I want to come visit you to piss in your ear while you're sleeping. Oh don't be shy. By the time you realize that my piss is draining into that hollow head of yours I'll have your eyes and mouth good and soaked. You'll be gargling. In my piss.

    Tomorrow's headlines will read:

MAN CHOKES TO DEATH ON HUMAN PISS: CRIME TRACED TO JOHNNY CASH YOUTUBE VIDEO!

  • Hank you lonely bastard. The clean pussies want clean rhymes. And your fans can't defend you because their words can't fight like a west hollywood pacifist. I know you arent gone. Somewhere you are in a dark alley beating the shit out of the man from the dos equis beer commercial. Defend yourself from the grave, hank. come back for just a minute before another pussy teaches a poetry class to young desperates begging to be invited to a party.

  • Zatem komentarz z kraju samego mistrza...

Pozdrawiam rodacy...wpadnijcie do Polski...gdybyście mogli poznać ten kraj...tą wódkę...

  • A kto Ci powiedzial, ze Charles Bukowski ma chociazby jakies korzenie w Polsce? Najpierw poznaj artyste, potem komentuj jego tworczosc gosciu...

In english: As far as I know Ch. Bukowski has nothing to do with Poland ;)

  • no właśnie...poznaj i opowiadaj. korzenie w Rzeczypospolitej posiada.

  • its amazing how depressing and vile his work is, yet we all can relate to him one way or the other. Anyone who can write like that and make people feel the way they do about his work is pure genious. Something i cant even comprehend

  • exactly

  • Schön....endlich mal 5 Minuten um abzuschalten.

    Nice....5 minutes to relax.

    Schön gemacht.

  • Fair enough...I didn't take the time to look at his stuff from that angle, and your metaphore was spot on. On a viseral level I suppose your right - poetry just comes out, must come out, like any other bodily function. And if your good, even real good, it smells like Bukowski's beer shit! Having said that, I have had many CATHARTIC beer shits, and I write poetry, so your 0 for 2. But your point holds....

  • Comment removed

  • if you think thats crude read "women"

  • These lyrics were written by Nick Cave.

  • No literary value? If you don't understand how poetry is like a hot beer shit then you either do not write poetry or you do not take hot beer shits.

He's saying that a poem comes from a good writer not because it's contrived or artificial, but because the good writer feels that it just must come. It leaves your body onto the paper naturally... Kind of like a hot beer shit leaves your asshole naturally... And when it comes out it feels so good.

No literary value? it's literary genius.

  • the best pic with henry , awesome video mate!

  • Excelente! Gracias Sergio; Bukoswski, la elegancia del bebedor!

  • dont try to understand

  • that's maybe a stupid question but what does it mean "don't try" on his grave. Don't try to die ? Don't try to do what he did ? OR IS it a reference to one of his poem...or...can someone explain ?

  • Just don't try, it's the best you can

  • it's simply mean's if U wanna or gonna do something "don't try" just "do it"

  • dont try means "let it happen "

in a zen like way...do not force it...let it happen... do not try to write good poems...let them flow.

  • i like your definition of it.

    thank you.

  • word. good work.

  • and the god is never far away... :)

  • The song is a cover on Nick Cave's original "Mercy seat"

  • r.i.p hank and we dont try...

  • One of my favourite musicians and one of my favourite writers, in one video, excellent.

My favourite Bukowski book will always be Ham On Rye, a classic.

  • I do not know what I love more...the fucked up pics of Buk or the song by Johnny Cash....

  • Very fitting. Great job

  • Next-make a video of buda's words with mother Teresa pics...or maybe some Dylan song with the Beatles for pics.

Then try putting Stevie Ray Vaughn music with pics of Hendrix. I think the Ramones music with Sid Vicious vids would be awsome also.Maybe some Led Zeplin

    with some Who video?

Because we know Buk had a hard time expressing himself AND getting his point across. He surely needs help from Cash and Nick Cave.

  • I love Bukowski and Cash.

  • two under rated legendes

  • Großartige Bilder einer Meiner Helden aus vergangenen Zeiten....

    Teo

  • simply amazing, thank you.

  • for christ sakes open your eyes, The words are just as Bukowski live his life.

  • inforapint: "for christ sakes open your eyes, The words are just as Bukowski live his life."

Wake up man cause you are dreamin.

Ever read any of Buks work?? How about Ham on Rye?...He doesnt need Cash or anyone else to 'splain him. . not even lil' ol you.

  • I am confused...what does this have to do with Bukowski??

  • just the images

  • Johnny Cash and Bukowski...great match!

everybody can post bukowski videos with tom waits music...with cash...it's something new!
