  • Why is it that every single comment in here is about his first or second language, or about his accent or about the way he speaks ?

  • it was told that prince Albert spoke in "monegasque" during his official incoronation. how can we achieve such a speech?

  • His French sounds sooo clear and soft... I understood everything. And, if I am not mistaken, he is able to speak Italian as well, though I don't know how fluently.

  • I too, am able to understand him easily. He seems more relaxed when speaking french. I think his stuttering happens when he speaks English.

  • marcoxyzxyz, French is his first language! He learned to speak English without an accent, because his mother was American, but Monaco is a French speaking country...

  • nyctc7, yes, yes, yes!!! You hit the nail on the head with your comment above. Precisely! Some Americans scowl at countries that are governed by a monarchy (saying that kind of rule is outdated, antiquated, blah, blah, blah). But deep inside, some or many of us Americans marvel at the recent history that led to Albert Grimaldi being crowned prince. So, yes, it is as if Prince Albert II is our prince. but the imperialist U.S. citizens only WISH they had some entitlement to Monaco. Keep dreamin'!!

  • That's your opinion, I'm not sure so many Americans would like to be in a Monarchy...look at the Canadians who often wish to forget they are one ;-)

Anyway, the debate is not here. In any case, what Americans and many Europeans don't realize, is that close to half of the Western European countries are Monarchies (UK,Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain...).

  • I'm Canadian and very proud that we are a Constitutional Monarchy and not a garbage Republic with a fake, uneducated or populist loser in the Executive Branch.

The Queen is the matriarch of our (and YOUR!) culture. She is the 'great great grandmother' of the greater English 'clan'. She is the mother of our people.

She represents the institution that has led us for over 1000 years - and gives us continuity with our past. She's above the day to day political foray.

    Long live the Queen!

  • @jamster8888 God bless Canada & may God give our GREAT QUEEN & MATRIACH many blessings & good health!

  • I stand corrected. Thank you, peterbabymc.

  • For the love of God, please stop referring to Monaco as a country; it is a principality. Now, about S.A.S. Prince Albert II: He is charming, just as eloquent in English as he is in French. By the way, S.A.S. Princesse Grace de Monaco made it a point ( I heard her say this in an interview) to teach her children English. She wanted them to be bilingual. But, yes, come on, people, French is Prince Albert's first language.

  • Sorry AngelOfTheNight, you should be the one looking at the FACTS. Monaco is a country, here is why:

1 "Principality" is a form of Monarchy (Just as Luxembourg is a Duchee, Britain is a Kingdom). Monarchy itself is a form of government for a country. Of course, there can be a prince without principality anymore (many in Europe, e.g. France who had its revolution).

2 - The first argument for determining a country's independence is membership to the United-Nations. Monaco is member...

  • ...So just to remind you that saying "Principality of Monaco" doesn't refer to sort of country with limited independence. You just say that as you would say "United-Kingdom", or "Federal Republic of Germany"...now of course, you may find Monarchies a bit old-fashioned, that's your right ;-)

  • @peterbabymc Sweden is a Constitutional Monarchy as are most of the Scandinavian countries and they are some of if not the greatest countries in the world - advanced economies, well educated and mannered, exceptional people - proud of their faith and their heritage.

  • @AngelOfTheNight2007 Monaco is a country.

  • His pronunciation in French is very good. He looks very insecure and odd. He looks like an accountant from Kansas City. The guy has zero presence and can't even read a teleprompter. I do not think he would get a job as a accountant at Ernst & Young. What is the source of his insecurity? How can you be so clumsy when given all that money and privileges?

    What is he hiding?

  • Ah I would assume French is his first language considering he was born and raised in Monaco! He speaks English with an American accent, because his mother was American...

  • I doubt you can speak French as well as he does...

  • Does he speak French with an American accent?? I know his English is 100% American -- no accent whatever. Did he grow up in the US or something?

  • His mother was the American actress Grace Kelly...

  • He presents his personnel best wishes for the year 2007;He's glad of Monaco's place among the international community; New Ambassy in Washington, new consulate in London; Ambassadors from all over bring in their acreditations;New prjects, extension by the sea, prospectives & orientation for economic issus; Action for protection & preservation of environnement; Quality of life; Confidence to the future!Voilà! Amitiés!

  • WHAT IS HE TALKING ABOUT

  • Formidable!

    Merci mille fois,

    -- Abbie
