New enzymes are always made during biosynthesis when the virus becomes active after some time. Without reverse transcriptase, HIV wouldn't be able to infect our host cells.

Indeed. To make things clear, gp160 is firstly a protein (encoded by HIV gene), turned to glycoprotein by let's say cellular enzymes and when it travels to the cell surface cellular enzymes attack it again splitting it into the two glycoproteins gp120 & gp41 on the HIV envelope

So, I am assuming the two viral RNA strands at the end are created from the original RNA strand? Can reverse transcriptase do that? Also, since every new cell gets its own share of the 3 crucial enzymes, does it get new enzymes from the new proteins that are created?

The enzyme reverse transcriptase takes the single strand of RNA and degrades the strand while making a single strand of DNA at the same time. The degraded RNA strand is then converted into another single strand of DNA. This makes a double stand of DNA which is incorporated into our genome. New enzymes are always made during biosynthesis when the virus becomes active after some time. Without reverse transcriptase, HIV wouldn't be able to infect our host cells.

HIV's main carrier was always seen in chimps, especially Cameroon chimps. There have been three known times that HIV jumped from chimp to human since 1931. Each time was by a different strand (M, N, & O) How these strands jumped were from mutations that overtime the virus gets lucky.

@14ona Both strands are complete copies of the viral gene, but to answer your question is more for a safety measure. If you're an organism that can only thrive through replication. The hope is that if there is a mutation in one copy that it will be paired with a correct copy. Random mutations do happen when the nucleus is activated, transcription occurs, and RNA synthesized. It's a sure way that the HIV cycle continues even if one copy is incorrect and won't work.

Depending on the person's health after been strucked down from the incurable infection, HIV can be transmutated within 4-5 years if the person is in poor health. Or in other cases if a person is quite healthy the replication could last up to a maximum of 13 years.

@ConorC96 Changing the receptor is not that easy. The reason why receptors work for such a large number of antigens is that they are made to be generic, not specific. Changing the receptor would change the chemical interactions of the active site, resulting in a WBC that the body would just need to get rid of in the end since it won't work as well. The immune system is incredibly complex; it's a non-perfect system the body needs to be non-perfect to apprehend a number of invaders.

he refered to one of the transmembrane proteins as gp120 whereas the literature refers to it as gp160. there is no argument with the gp41 glycoprotein. can someone clarify whether it is gp120 or gp160 that is involved in the fusion process with the host cd4 cell. thanks in advance!!!

Indeed. To make things clear, gp160 is firstly a protein (encoded by HIV gene), turned to glycoprotein by let's say cellular enzymes and when it travels to the cell surface cellular enzymes attack it again splitting it into the two glycoproteins gp120 & gp41 on the HIV envelope

The University of Liverpool conducted and published similar studies -- same results were shown. "Double Immunity" by Dr. Stephen O'Brien -- WGBH Educational Foundation. 10-15% of Europeans have a Delta-32 adaptation which affects HIV's ability to attach to CCR5.
