Very nice. Is it standard to have each tier single layered? I tend to do all my cake double decker. Make for a really large cake and stately presentation.
This is a very pretty cake! The piece of wood "works", I'm just wondering why she chose it? If it's solid gum paste, how long did it take to dry all the way through?
I'm actually not sure why she chose a pine branch - I think it was just a piece of winter imagery that spoke to her. As for the drying time, it took about 5 days until it was completely dry - but it was still a teeny bit malleable in the thickest parts if you pushed good and hard on them. It didn't effect the structural integrity of the piece though, b/c it held up perfectly on the cake!
go to the Food Network website. go to Ina Garten's show called "Barefoot Contessa." Look for her recipe for coconut cake, and just leave out the coconut. That's the recipe I use. There are thousands of vanilla cake recipes out there - all you have to do is Google "Vanilla Cake Recipes"
omg "very nervous" does not even cover it! LoL - seriously, I was having anxiety dreams for 2 weeks before the delivery date of every horrible catastrophic situation that could possibly (and some of them quite impossibly) have occurred during the delivery/setup of this cake. I was a WRECK!! But I guess it was a little bit good - b/c I made sure to be SUPER prepared in case anything DID go wrong. ...which of course... it didn't. LoL. PHEW!
ideally they should be chilled overnight so that the cake will cool itself from the inside out during delivery/setup/wedding day festivities. but if you are really short on time, as long as the cake is very firm when you put pressure on it & the buttercream in the crumbcoat is fully crusted, it's ready for fondant. (1-3 hours minimum).
LoL, thank you - yes a lot of people wonder about the branch. It was just something that came about during my collaboration with the bride; she wanted something very wintery but wanted to stay away from the christmassy side of things, and I said we could still incorporate a pine bough but make it look frosty and frozen and cover it in snowflakes so it would look more Dr. Zhivago and less Miracle on 34th Street.
OMGs... That is effing awsome. I would be so proud of it... I' all lost for words in the glow of the pure awsomeness that cake is

This cake is stunning.
You are very talented.
What was the significance of
the branch? Did the Bride tell you
why it was important to have? Not to
take away from your work at all, I just
don't get the branch...
Again, your work is amazing!
