  • REwire, agreed, Aalto is the best (only?) Buchla-inspired soft synth to date however there are certainly some Euro modules that come close to these sounds. the combination of Z3000 into Piston Honda gets me 75% of these sounds with some LPG and wave folding. Fantastic video BTW, really enjoyed it!

  • @skrapadelix : The Intellijel uFold has the closest Wave Folder sound to the 259. Also, MakeNoise's DPO (June 2012) has the same functionality of the 259 and mimics many of the sounds I made in this video.

  • Surprisingly, Aalto is very close to the sound of this oscillator, better than any Euro module has been able to achieve.

  • That looks like fun!

  • PUNCHY!!! whats this thing worth?

  • @AnalogDecay420

Cost $4K. Sold it for 5K. No doubt it's gone up since then.

  • @REwire One up for sale right now on ebay - over 7K and still a few days to go.

  • Pomana banana style colored pathcords. Flimsy. Not 1/4 plugs, BUT an advantage is they are stackable.

  • really ballsy sound, great demo - thanks

  • what is this shit even used for?? can you play turntables through it or whatt

  • @jibbij360 Do not ever call a Buchla; "shit"

And not all electronic audio gear is related to DJs

  • this is sooooo sick!!!!!!

  • Where do you get those colored patch chords?

  • This is the fatest oscillator I've ever heard.

    I want one baaaaad.

  • Dark Side of the Moon Part Deux

  • One of the best videos I've seen on YouTube! Makes me want to build a crazy box of my own.

  • That is a glorious thing! Great module - I want one! And a great video. Thanks for making it!

  • an oscillator produces sound, i dont know what waveforms the buchla oscillator has but thats what an oscillator does basically

  • nuriumzzzzzzzz, take a look at Eliane Radigue's music.

  • I can't find any artists with oscillator waves as the dominant sound. I want something space-y and minimal...

  • @nuriumzzzzzzzz

    Try Aphex Twin

  • Give me one.. ;-)

    LOVE IT!

  • @nuriumzzzzzzzz Just about all electronic music has oscillators.

    All synths have them.

All musical instruments arguably have oscillators

  • Buchla is awesome but they need to lower the price (A LOT) or make (A LOT) of good virtual Buchlas!!!

  • @GqFq I have never seen any virtual buchlas, LINKS NOW.

They are priced well for the amount of work that goes into them though

  • @dustytretch Hmmmm , and how much would cost something like this? I know , i know. I really enjoy the sound of Buchla a lot better than Moog.

  • @dustytretch Try Madrona Labs "aalto" Its buchla inspired and very awesome!

  • loved it!

  • How do we get Buchla to make a new edition of this baby.

  • @jeffreycollins They have, the 259e and 261e

  • idk what an oscillator is, i just typed it up. this thing is awesome, its purpose im unsure of, but it seems like you could make some great music with this thing

  • An "oscillator" is part of a musical instrument called a synthesizer.

  • that is beautiful!

  • Brutal

  • i want it!!!!

  • kinda sounds digital like a dx-7 :O

  • are you deaf ?!

  • come on do some music u fucking lamer

  • you know nothing

  • What makes you think you know that?

  • can you do helicopter sounds with that?

  • does it come with hard disk?

  • nice helico and alien fart sounds!

  • Raaad!!! I'd love to work with these babies one day :)

  • Yep. I want one.

  • Yeah, I like it!!!

  • yea, but ya need a pilot's license to run all that gear.

  • I want one so bad! =D

  • clearly the best of all time

  • I know what I'm saving up for ^^

  • I've said it before , and I'll say it again , the best damn oscillator ever made .... Thank you Mr. Buchla

  • Sick.

    SICK, I tell you.

  • WOW I got a hard on now, NICE SYSTEM!!

  • Oh yesssss, dam that reminds me of "come to daddy!"

    aphex twin sounding.. luv it.

  • Love that moment when you randomly push a switch and it only alter the volume: classics.

Nice video, between science and music.

  • The patch that starts at 4:06/4:07 gets really freaky between 4:15 and the end of the video.

i have GOT TO GET ME one o' these. (8^)

  • That's one amazing oscillator!!!

    awesome post!

  • that thing is superb, i'd love to play around with one of those some day o.O

  • this little fella is insane! Lovely fat oscillator:)

  • congratulations!

  • I am a happy man for you posting this!!!!!!!

  • Damn that sound at 3:33. Makes me wet.

  • lovely sound - buy the plan b stuff if you want ' that ' character.......stunning buchla sounding modules for peanuts .

  • 0:39-0:45 totally sounds like those odd sounding bass stabs in Sega Genesis and Adlib tunes.

  • reason is still way better....just kidding!

  • What is the make of the white-faced sequencer you have there? I saw an image of a rack of them, in Vince Clarke's studio, and I was curious who made them.

  • That's the Modcan 54B Sequencer.

  • interesting.

a very digital sound for a vintage oscillator. is it being "FM'D" for want of a better phrase?

much thicker and tonally richer than I thought. His newer modualrs are hell on earth to use, though

  • the holy mother of oscillators. don buchla was and is a Genius

  • Wow I thought Morton Subotnick was... somewhere. Are you a musician or an electronic engineer? Is this supposed to be some kind of demo and if so of what?

  • Musician mostly. Demo of what this Oscillator sounds like. Many new Buchla users and other modular enthusiasts can use this to gauge sound, unuqueness and quality of vintage to modern gear and judge need and purchasing desires.

  • Thanks man, it is very nice and I'm sure it's very expensive too. I always wanted a modular synth but have nnever had the cash. I'm thinking about getting a software setup for my computer, something like the Moog modular simulation (if that's the right word). Did you see the video of that guy who found a Buchla in the trash? If only...

  • I'm drooling.

  • absolut krass diese maschinen

  • I need two...

  • I want one.

  • jesus tap-dancing christ! if you want to go to space, this mother-ship will take you there.

  • this is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard

  • This is the DEVICE PERFORMED IN THE "SAN FRANCISCO'S TRIP FESTIVAL" iN 1966? Don Buchla (Subotnik's Tape Electronic Research) made the CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ELECTRONIC AVANT-GARDE AND PYCHEDELIC COUNTER CULTURE.

  • great

  • awesome synths.

  • which synth is that on the top you are doing the bulk of your tweaking with???

  • nevermind...duh

  • Buchla still makes wonderful synthesizers to this day. A complete 200e system costs about $20,000. Thanks for this excellent demo!

  • But massive and reaktor isnt analog !

  • But Massive sounds really nice

and Reaktor is beyond any modular analog synth when it comes to patch stuff !!!

    =D

  • Let's keep it to: It's physical and sounds different/distinctive ^_^

  • Stunning!

  • fantastic synth!!!!!

  • sick. i want one!

  • I see that you've got some cwejman modules ... are they any good ?

  • I dumped the Cwejman Osc and Filter as they were too clean sounding but kept the rest. Cwejman is great at FX and mixing modules.

  • wow everything buchla seems so amazing.

  • man,... like crazy!!!!!!!!

  • that's one crazy module...damn, i want it

  • that's amazing...!

  • Hot damn!

  • sounds beautiful!

  • Sweet!
