Hey, thanks for the vid. I am about to undertake a mountain bike single speed project and this will make it easier. And at @starcounter, no, he couldn't. Thats part of winging it dude. :-)
wait this is redundant. youve taken the rivets out for what purpose. those rivets hold the smaller gear to the larger one. but you say were gonna cut the pieces of metal to take the larger gear off. i think what happened is you took the rivets out and were like fuck, now the smaller ones off. this fucks up my plan lol
Riveted my arse.Once the Allen holes are rounded out you had no choice. More butchery than mechanics, Can't bring myself to watch the rest too painfull.
Dude thanx sooo much. Lets just say you gave some hope it my life to fix my shitty bike. Ive been wanting to do this, but i had no clue how. If i ever get around to it, ill send a picture of the final product.
hey this guy is like awsome i give him like 5 star where is this guy live would love to meet him my goodness ive been looking for answers and so far this is the top guy to have around well done man remember to keep updates cus i dont have the tools to do it but like u say to much money to be spending when u have the items to use lying around the house
Isn't it stupid when people have the idea of repairing stuff but have neither equipment nor the howto?
I used to do it a lot but I was a teen and stopped. If you don't have the tools or don't know how to do the task why try at all and destroy otherwise a good crank.
Yo man, Thank you for posting these videos. Because of you, I was able to get the chain off of my bike and i look forward to taking apart those damn rivets on my crank. Did you finish the bike yet? What's your latest video?
Why convert to a single speed when you have gears? Is it all about a percieved "coolness" factor? I remember from when I was a kid some 50 years ago that it was so cool to have a bike that actually had gears! Why discard the technology of multi-speeds? I just don't get it.
More efficient drivetrain, lighter weight, more direct connection to how the bike works. Of course, there's always the issue of wanting to fit in with the cool kids for many, but not all.
The main drawback I see with fixies isn't to do with gears, but the extra stopping distance needed.
When that dumb sod pulls out in front of you or cuts you up, having a front brake makes all the difference to stop before you hit them.
So it boils down to the main problem with fixies being other road users!
another way of taking the crank arm off the bike w/o a tool.. is to remove the nutthat holds the crank arm on the bb spindle.. and ride it around slowly. .and it'll free itself slowly.
well, i think you should have made your other road bike a fixie but, whatever one you do you are going to need to buy a fixed gear rear wheel. And more tires seeing as most of them are 700c.
Hahaha, at first, I thought you were serious, but honestly, you're one fucken funny mother fucker! Keep it up, can't wait to see some other HOW-TO bicycle tutorials. You're awesome.

who needs a " fuc..." rear brake?...you do!!!! unless you want to fall on your fuc.. face what you don't need is a front brake...and as far as your 10 dollar frame next time you buy a bike at the thrift store make sure the bike has the kind of crank that has chain rings that can be unscrewed then you cut off the screws to size and as far as chain tension if you want to do a nice job you will need a " sprung" chain tensioner.
Spoken by a true genius, no wait thats not the word im looking for, asshole yeah thats the word. I ussually dont reply to ignorance like this but i will this time. a front brake is much more effecient and effective than a rear brake, if you fall on your face you dont know how to ride. Ill make sure to pass up a decent frame because the cranks arent right. you keep thinking a chain tensioner is the "nice" way to do it.
When you brake almost all of your body weight transfers to the front tire, thats why a front brake will always be more effective than a rear one. And learn to use your front brake, i know it's hard my Mother has the same fear of flying over the handlebars.
Thanks guys, really im glad i can help. I actually finished my bike, so ill be posting in a few days how i fixed the freewheel, how i cut the chain and put it back together, how i put tension on the chain and then ill take it back apart and paint the frame.
Nice man

you just drill in the bolt. That will get rid of the rivet and the bolt cleanly. Unfortunately you will have to replace the bolt.

I can understand having only one chainwheel in the front, because front derailling is lame. Never works long before it needs adjusting.
