i beleave (dont quote me on this) that spyderco's warrenty will cover rust on blades like this. spydercos suport has been good to me (an not heard once a complain about it from a source that i deem trustworthy). I know it is a long time back now, but would be fun to see how spyderco reacts to a rusted Tasman.
pretty bad when on a blade type "h1" who's grand claim is to NEVER rust that right on the h1 emblem you do get rust!..dont know if this thing's worth the dough..
@Pimpzilla300 - I've had knives get some rust before and it's easy enough to polish off. Like anything else though, it can become a nuisance if you are constantly in a high moisture environment, or work around corrosive type substances.
@Feanic It doesn't matter where a product is from, however it does matter about the quality. There are shit products in China, but that's what you will pay for for 6 bucks. Fork up over at least 20, then you'll see the difference. There are bad products EVERYWHERE, you just don't realize.
For out door / fishing / food prep, what kind of oil do you need to use for this knife? I know all my knifes get Tuf-Glide oils on it. Does H-1 needs to be oiled up ?
I like your humor. I think maybe you should have done the rust test in separate containers. I think rust from the other two affixed itself to the rougher areas of the Tasman's blade, like the "1"
severator, AWESOME test video! i've been looking for a good knife to take sailing with me. but since i sail small racing boats that are only a few inches off the water , i am constantly soaked with salt water. do you think i could sail and leave it in my lifejacket w/out it rusting anymore than it did in this vid? btw i sail just bout everyday in summer so it'l get some pretty hard abuse.
Thanks Raymaster, and good point. Actually about 12 hours in, I poured out enough water to leave some of the knives exposed and then I would flip them every few hours. They were totally out for the last 8 hours or so. I still have the Dakota knife. Looks the same. The liners rusted hard!
I have a Salt 1 that spent a week in the ocean, with me and the only thing I really noticed was that the range of motion was kind of gritty, but all of that wash out in the sink. The blade showed no signs of rust, except for the 1. Spyderco definitely made a good salt water knife.

@tasteegold7772 - in Spyderco's defense, the tiny spots of rust that do form are easily removable. From a practical standpoint imo, H1 delivers.

Does having rust on a blade signal a deathflag for knives/tools? (besides being poisonous or something)

@urkingod - H1 is corrosion resistant all by itself. It should be fine with no oil.
