I'm proud to say that I live in North, SC. It's a great town. I never talk to anybody that isn't confused when I tell them I live in North. It always starts a conversation when ordering something over the phone. By the way, the black people are on both sides of the track.
I moved from NJ to North, SC..my friends stayed as confused as Bill Cosby when I explained to my friends from Jersey that I lived in North, SC and it was south of Columbia, SC, east of Charleston SC....lol
Man oh man...so this is my great aunt, my grandmother's sister. Its thanksgiving right now, we were literally watching this at the table on a laptop lol
Cosby is a good comedian, but there's no way, no how that he's even in the same league as Groucho Marx who did the original "You Bet Your Life" on both radio and TV for 11 years. I'm sure Cosby would agree with that. But it's a shame they even tried to bring back such a classic because it would always be of lesser quality than the original. Some things just cannot (and should not) be replicated so as to show due honor to the original.
@LMichaelL65 All manifestations of YBYL were a combination of scripted jokes and ad-libs. This was true for the original Groucho Marx version, the early 80s Buddy Hackett version, and the 90s Bill Cosby version. As is true for any artistic endeavor the original is always the best. The reason the Hackett and Cosby version did not last long was because they could not recapture the same magic - Groucho was one of a kind.
@TheTubePortal Nooo, Bro! Tell me ain't so? So disappointed. My image of the Cos, and that stern faced South Carolina lady is tainted forever! sad I am!
@ja2smart92 I didn't say it was scripted, I said it was a combo of scripted and ad lib. Every manifestation of the show was spontaneous and nothing planned per se, but the couples were pre-interviewed and little one-liners made by a group of writers. When the couple come out on stage the host was given notes to read about the couple and a few one-liners on cue cards or paper to go along with what was learned in the pre-interview. Once they come out anything can happen, but the notes are there.
@LMichaelL65 Perhaps I should have used better words. What I meant to say is that the JOKES are a combination of scripted and ad lib. What happens on stage is usually spontaneous, however every couple went through a pre-interview. The questions they were asked are then given to the host to use, along with some jokes assembled by a team of writers. The host can use them or not use them at his discretion. Both Groucho and Cosby were about 50/50 ratio for written jokes and ad libs.
Every time I listen to this I laugh so hard not at her, but because I am from SC and love the way South Carolinians talk and my uncle was from Due West .
totally hilarious, I am still laughing, just what I needed to start the day out, best part was when he asked about the river, too funny..... I have to send this to several people now, lol......
Haha, this is scary, I live in South Carolina, my g/f goes to a school in Due West, and I know where North, South Carolina is...and this all makes since! :0
This is absolutely hilarious, and yet, I can see exactly what the lady is saying. I know many many people that would say the same things...:-) Maybe even me....:-)
