  • I saw the ending of this before I started the video :)

  • Its rainin' men!

    Hallelujah!

  • lol its like Obelix :D

  • Alright so far so go- OH MY GOD :0

  • Dream of Zama

  • Is this vanilla Rome, or some kind of mod?

  • @Lanterfantable That's vanilla.

  • @Xerdocreisson Hmmm, alright neat. Never realized you could make shield walls and stuff like that. Or is that only with certain units?

  • @Lanterfantable Uh... How did you never notice that? Every legion unit after the Marian Reforms is able to do that.

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

  • the roman empire here is using fly cheat :D

  • looooooooooooooooool

  • Hannibal would have made the elephants get drunk on alcohol (elephants love alcohol lol) and they giants would go on terrifying rampages throughout the battlefield. Although they could not distinguish the enemy from the Carthaginians, so this tactic was not very efficient.

Q: Did Hannibal get the elephants from Africa?

  • elephants are DEADLY LOL

  • Das gute alte Rome total war, da war die Welt noch in Ordnung

  • flying romans =DDD

  • Quick, pull a legalos on em!!!

  • This just in your supposed to watch out for elephants! They`re not exactly masters of stealth!

  • MEN FOUNTAIN!

  • @JB24971 And he used Elephants in the battle of zama at the end of the 2nd punic war

  • BAD END.

  • NO? THIS IS SPARTA!

Testudo is for approaching missile units and walls, it's no surprise you got demolished. Romans in testudo are tightly packed together and cannot fight back. If you want to use roman infantry against elephants then go into loose formation and order them to throw a wave of their javelins at the elephants as they approach. After doing some damage with javelins engage them in melee.

  • @jenniferthomas28 Can't you just scare them away with fire?

  • @kiryu2000 If you have archers on hand then yes. It doesn't always work though. Against multiple stacks you will need many archers to reliably make them run amok. A good player with keep them out of range until the enemy archers are dead or occupied with fighting someone else. I was speaking of the scenario in which roman infantry alone are forced to fight elephants alone in which case the strategy I described is far more effective than in this video.

  • soviet union = elephants usa= romans

  • too many elephants . . .

  • 00:0 I shall live!!

  • 0:48 ''This is...... MADNESS!''

    Madness? THIS IS ELEPHANTS!

  • This is no-*gets hit by an elephant, camera breaks*

  • rofl

  • /watch?v=IruR1hQCWQQ

  • its fun, i love it game))

  • its like Pelennor fields.

  • the romans said"Why?"

  • Carthage* but otherwise your doing good

  • @ARBITEROFTHECOVENANT elephants were used by carthago in the war against rome werent they? Or am i failing in english again?

  • @BlackysComments Yes, in the second Punic war, though Hanibal lost them pretty early.

  • @JB24971 lost MOST* of them pretty early (in the alps to the cold, to be precice) Hannibal still had some of his elephants remaining once he got over, but most died in the freezing cold

  • hahaha coool !!!

  • THIS IS CARTHAGE!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @GuitarDestroyer77777 nooo.... RUN THE FUCK AWAY formation should be created here...

  • @Djlawson1000 Mwhahahahaa, I agree on that. You know I wanted to post that comment about V formation on some other video, not this one hahahahahaha

  • what could possibly go wrong?

  • It's like Asterix and Obelisk just ran them through.

  • lol

  • or you would set up a spear defence in front of your armies and when the elephants got close enough to run into the spears you would back your armies up or flank the elephants in there confused state allowing for a much easier battle

  • well actually in the game if you were facing elephants like this first you would open the formation to reduce casualties so that its not so much of a train hitting all of them at once plus if this battle ever happened in real life then the javelins or a spear unit would pick the elephants off pretty easily as well as the riders of the elephants if the elephants didnt go crazy and buck the riders of by then by being frightened by the spears or whatever they were up against

  • For Caesar! Oh wait,..... I'm in heaven?

  • No chance

  • Lol funny ... but ... umm ... kinda pointless.

  • romans marmelade

  • As soon as I read the title, i was like "oh fuc..."

  • actually, the roman tactics to kill war elephants was to make pathways between the formations. The elephants would then instinctively run in between the soldiers trough these paths, and then the soldiers could easely pick them of, oe by one...

    Sorry for my english... :)

  • @ThabigT101 And also, the elephants are distinctiley afraid of fire and pigs

  • @nicoeste8765 And mice...

  • this is CARTHAGO!

  • @BlackysComments ........-_-.... what.

  • to mutch red bull

  • If you had just throwed the javelins the elephants should have been slaughtered :)

  • i think the elephants won

  • This is snow!

  • That was close.

  • That was funny! :)

  • i couldnt HELP but not laugh LMFAO!!! good stuff man

  • I hope they make a rome total war 2!

  • What is this supposed to prove?

  • @Julius55555 Dont use testudo against elephants in Rome total war.

  • @Ersanea Well i guess you're right, but for more oblivious players. To someone who plays it, its just a noob move of epic proportions.

  • Probably because the testudo is more effectly against missile units :P

  • wtf

  • who won? :P

  • WOW!!! Who saw that coming ?

  • its raining men !

  • Good game!

  • Oh My God that was brutal hahahahaha

  • LOL

  • Just a flesh wound, he'll live.

  • I think they won

  • Its raining roman soldiers

  • Did any of you expect any different from an extremly tight formation against elephants?

  • your fighting elephants wrong! you need to go into the crack in the mountain with Ilsedores sword and make the ghosty ghosts kill them all

  • this is no?

  • best total war ever.

  • Owned.

  • Always conquer Carthage early lol

  • THIS IS NO..!

  • lol Wondered what is the strategy for standing off an elephant attack. Throw peanuts and pray? I'd have to break formation and run like hell and seeing my buds flying through the air and landing in front of my retreat would tell me I made the right decision.

  • @crazedNdiffused Actually, a spear or arrow to the elephant's eye does the trick. It goes wild and starts trampling troops from its own army

  • More flying Romans than in Asterix!

  • @FBItheoneandonly ^))))))) true

  • Romans:I beleve i can fly!!!!!!!!!!

  • that sure was a fair fight.

  • prepare for rape

  • this is no what?

  • haha the plan seems a BIT flawed

  • Ummm... new tactic. RUN! RUN FOR YOUR FUCKING LIFE!

  • I was expecting something amazing to happen but ok.....

  • No. Testudo formations aren't just for arrows! Roman Legionaries use it for head-on charges. Plus shielding it from enemy missile fire. The Legate or General would stand in the front, lead the legionaries, march straight head-on, then give the order to form testudo. They would then march slowly while hacking through a mob of barbarians. The Legate or general would sometimes give the order for the legionaries to "lock formation".

Basically: TESTUDO FORMATION ISN'T JUST FOR F-_-CKING ARROWS!

  • @cody40994 Man..look it up..it was horrible for close combat. It was often countered with a cavalry charge and was MAINLY used against missiles. Also I don't see how anyone would be able to "charge" in that position since the placement and unison of movement was required to keep the Testudo formation together. Meaning slow movement therefore no momentum to break any kind of line.

Basically: TESTUDO WAS DESIGNED FOR USE AGAINST ARROWS AND THE LIKE!

  • @cichlid16

By charge I ment slowly walking to a mob of barbarians. That's what Legionaries are for. To form testudo. I mean, why do you think they have large shields and short swords?

You looked at damn Wikipedia did you?

  • @cody40994

You're one funny guy. The testudo was mostly used in sieges because it's only big plus is the high defence against missiles. In close combat it's useless.

  • goddddddamit! get it right!! testudo is for ARROWS!!!!!! even my 10 year old sister knows that!

  • no what?

  • testudo is not for attacking or defending in close combat

  • i knew they were screwed before the vid began

  • i havent crapped since last year

  • god dammit they never stood a chance. Bastards!

  • i <3 it how the standard bearer just stands there!

  • hahaa

  • hahahaha! 1 elefant for 1 roman warrior

  • hi

  • Hello sirs! I am general herpus. I have a brilliant strategy to defeat the elephants. For sure.

  • Call Rasa we went up 15 feet today almost to the moon

  • horse archers + elephants = best army

  • this is exactly what happened when Hannibal marched over the alps into Italy, I don't need to 'wonder' what would happen

  • bullshit the elephants walked..try this with running ;)

  • probably just 5 elephants would do the work, but no....WE HAD TO CALL THE WHOLE FUCKING ARMY!

    Awesome video :D

  • Made piss.

  • what is the name of the game?

  • @loquendero134 rome total war

  • This is why you need to destroy Carthaginians early in the campaign...

  • that, good people of the internet, is called a lawn mower

  • Your legionaires have awkward spiky legs?!

  • in my opinion when cavalry or elephants charge use the legionaries or what ever their called to throw there spears there might not be that many but cause elephants to panic

  • ha those elephants could not trample fast enough :D

  • why is your detail low

  • holy shit!!!

  • i love dick

  • elephant vs turtle.... the ultimate battle of the species.

  • this just like the third lord of the rings only on the movie the elephants didnt win

  • Oh i thought it was elephants vs testicles sorry

  • weeee i'm flying! agian, again!

  • emm there are 5000 elephant and 200 romans.-.-

  • bye bye testudo

  • And this is how cars where invented. XD

  • For sparta ...? Not anymore ....

  • That was hard to watch...

  • great vis, but you have to to it bigger. much bigger.

  • Cruel!

  • lol this is no. best total war video yet

  • LOL

  • flying romans hmmm, asterix and obelix ??

  • Somebody lost their job, and it wasn't an elephant.

  • I WANT ROME 2 SO HARD RIGHT NOW!!!!

  • THIS IS NO FAAAIR!!!!!!!!! commentator on the end! hahahah

  • Total War is the best STARTEGIA but ROME PFUUUUUUUUUUU

  • It's raining Romans!

  • Let down by an idiotic general.

  • If a lot of elephants running for you, you shouldn't create a fucking matchbox, just GTFO!

  • macedonian pikemen or sparton hoplites are good on cavalry

  • u should use spartan or macedonian spearman:d

  • @VladBlok28 I'm sorry but I have to call bulshit because the time it would take 2 units of war elephants to kill 1000+ romans the romans would have made the elephants run amok.

  • @xDoomsDayx100 If you use them right it can be done, especially against the AI. The trick is to keep them moving so they don't get bogged down, and use the general to rout shaken or wavering units. That way, the enemy suffers a catastrophic rout before the elephants get too tired. It actually helps if you keep the elephants in loose formation so they don't get surrounded because the elephant formation is so damn huge!

  • i used to play as seleucid empire and i swear i used to beat entire roman armies (1000+ men) with 2 elephant units and 1 cataphracts/general unit to chase down the deserters. I think it was medium difficulty. Had a problem with garrisoning cities though :(

  • a testudo is for taking cover from arrows, not to hold of charging elephants >.<

  • @MrHazeification lmao yeah :D

  • O-W-N-A-G-E!

  • You're doing it wrong!

  • Im sure that actor wanted say this is no fair!

  • it's raining man

  • Romans don't attack elephant lol, bullshit two times

  • @tya201 You mean they never encountered war elephants, or they never attacked them head-on with heavy infantry? The second part is probably true, but the first is not. Hannibal's armies included war elephants, which always presented a tactical problem for the Romans.

  • @TaintedMustard First, when i attacked by elephant with romans i didn't testudo formation, i put all my soldiers in the same group for kill elephants one by one. And it is a good technic .

    (sorry for my bad english)

  • we want rome total war 2

  • that would suck to be a roman in that battle

  • THIS IS NO.....

  • Think there were as many elephants as romans, hardly a fair fight now...

  • @mattg109 well those romans are gonna have to try harder

  • lol the elephants look funny with dresses on

  • war elephants suck whene they go on a rampage and kill everyone. even if they are on yo side they kill your men as well. don't get them or you will regret it
