I would not be so cocky if I were those republic agents. Satele Shan survived outer space with a force bubble in Fatal Alliance, Aryn Leneer survived her descent from nearly the ionosphere to the ground of Coruscant. There's a possibility Malgus knew both or pulled a General Grievous. Unless this was meant to be a Mace Windu death, actually comes across more like palpatine, I'm not going to assume he is dead.
