Yeh, Slash has written great riffs and for that he's great. But in this video it's just plain obvious that he hasn't got the technical knowledge or the creativity to play a good solo. I work around tons of trained guitarists and whether they like these two or not, they'll all say that Mayer is a far better player. In GNR Slash's one scale solos works everytime, put him up against a far superior player who knows more than one scale and this is what you get! Think you need your ears adjusting.

J. Mayer is a stupendous guitar player, I really like him playing the Blues, just that. As a songwriter he's just dull, boring as a blank white piece of paper.
