  • The welsh language. Developed and shaped to be a language for speaking, singing and general oralness.

  • Today is the day, St Davids day! CYMRU AM BYTH!

  • cool

  • Wales...such a beautiful place, nice people everywhere...and guess what ? One of the most beautiful anthem of the world (after ours, of course ;-) ). I will forever keep in my mind in the Millenium Stadium the red army singing this beautiful Mae En Wlad Fyr...I'm French, living in Cardiff this year, and I really enjoy my journey. Thank you, welsh people, and just stay as you are !

    Diolch yn fawr !

  • Born in Cwmbran, South East Wales but now live in Bavaria, Germany. Showed this video to my Manager to have him hear our Anthem. I had to fight back the tears when listening to it.

I may have left Wales for a new life abroad but I will never forget where I came from :)

  • @Cwmbran1984

I would like to swap: I'm from Germany but want to go to Wales :'(

  • @Cwmbran1984 From Abertillery mate, what you doing out in Bavaria ?

  • amhran na bhfiann's better. and welsh sounds like slobbering disabled children

  • @iNarbage No.

  • @iNarbage amrhan na what? Never heard of it. We may sound like slobbering children but at least yr hen iath (the old language) is our own and not that germanic they speak in Scotland or wherever it is you're from...

  • @iNarbage CYMRU AM BYTH, EIRE GO BRAUGH. lets get those damned english

  • Am le i fyw! Balch i fod yn Gymro! Mae Hen Wlad fy Nhadau yn annwyl i mi.

  • I am an Englisy priest / youth leader and when taking a group of young English lads plus two Welsh lads up to Scotland, the latter taught us all to sing this beautiful anthem, in Welsh of course. When it was sung at a major event in a Welsh cathedral some months later, it was great to be able to join in.

  • Cymru, a perfect country. - Greetings from Brazil!

  • Check this slightly different take on the anthem:

    youtube.com/watch?v=iZmBe23LbGE

  • I recently found out I am related to the Father and Son who wrote this. I love the lyrics, though the "English" translation seem to be rather patronising. Cymru am Byth.

  • If Carlsberg did countries, flags and anthems.... they couldn't do any better

    Come on boys

    22hours 42mins and counting

    Cymru am Byth! :0)

  • WELL DONE CYMRU FROM IRELAND, IM PISSED OFF BUT GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT!!! RUGBY IS A FAR BETTER SPORT THAN FAG AND GAY FOOTBALL!!

  • well done CYMRU FROM IRELAND ye played the better rugby!! deserved win!!!

  • I am English and spent my summer of 2011 being obseesed with the Welsh language... which led me to learn how to sing the national anthem of Wales, plus Calon Lan and Ar hyd y nors. The pronounciation was actually pretty easy, especially as I pronounced every sign post I saw while in wales whith only a small street guide on the language.

  • @NobodyOfTheTardis Isn't it nice when a language is consistent in it's pronunciation. I speak English as a first language and even I get 1/10 words wrong if I don't know them. English is messed up.

  • Comment removed

  • why are they pronouncing ei like ae?

is that how they pronounce it in south wales or something?

I'll admit, english is far more dominant in wrexham where i live but as far as i am familiar with welsh, I am pretty sure we don't pronounce it like that around here.

  • @tremault It's how people who are learning welsh pronounce it, because for example "einstein" the "ei" is pronounced like "ae" - It's just how non welsh speakers pronounce it.

  • I'm not the least bit Welsh -- but this anthem had me standing at attention. Well done...

  • what language is that

  • @cvhashim Welsh?..

  • After encountering this beautiful anthem in a Welsh cathedral,,the English members of our Youthlink group learnt to sing it, in Welsh of course, taught by te two Welsh boys in the group, as we travelled up the motorway to Scotland. It thereafter became the custom to sing it around the camp fire during the rest of the trip.

  • Happy Saint David's Day!

  • @perfacetus Not when your 15 and you and 9 of your mates are catering for 200 people>.< haha But cymru am bythh!

  • Thank you for uploading this! Too many versions out there that are jazzed up, sung by only men, etc etc etc, instead of sung as it was meant by mixed voices... the way I grew up singing it at Welsh-American events.

  • Excellent

  • Dwi wrth fy modd. Yr wyf o Ddyfnaint ac yr wyf yn Celt

  • ad sum good times in wales:) viva cumru RIP Ella Kate Cripps my gr8 nan

  • Long live Wales!!!! From Serbia!!!!

  • Rydw i'n caru fy nhwlad!

    Rydw i'n caru fy iaeth!

  • Nice anthem but one expected a flying flag a little more effort would have enhanced this.

  • @40thegardener2 If you think a flying flag would enhance these voices or this anthem, then you must not have been listening to the same thing that I am listening to now. WOW.

  • im looking for an instrumental version, can anyone help?

  • @brettsworld99 If you check out Play.com, and type in 'Welsh National Anthem', up will come 'The best of the Welsh Military Bands', which you could download for MP3 player or possibly order the album from HMV or similar. All the best.

  • @gillwilkinsongw its ok, i found it shortly after lol, but thanks anyway, i uploaded the vid of me singing a parody of it, if u wana go see, or not, ur choice :P

  • @3tangle3 to be honest, the queen, shes better than one of those fucking princes becoming king, when they become king they will marry, and spawn a new royal family, as much as i pains me to say, i hope she never dies

  • @BloodyPitOfHorror i agree she is not the worst.....but she still has a dodgy past...suppose not her fault born into a bunch of nutter hey ;) ;)......the diana fiasco highlighted this

  • @BloodyPitOfHorror i was drunk writing that and had just had arguments with some extreme royalist so sorry for caps

  • @3tangle3 i know the feeling haha :L

  • CYMRU = YR WLAD ORAU AR Y DDAEAR!!

  • Anyone ever get tired of some of the half-educated English scum who foul postings like this with their comments?

  • @twlthteg

Yes, I equally get tired of the chip on the shoulders welsh that post equally stupid comments on the English videos. Its a viscous cycle.

  • Dwin dod or Cymru and I love my heratige.

    CYMRU

  • Best flag, best anthem, and best country in the world. And I'm American! haha :]

    Cymru am byth!!!!! Wales forever!!!

  • @JLTinsley i wish i could be america....the amount of inaccurate history spouted here, luckily my welsh family kept the old stories going.......the state couldn;t control our thoughts

  • That has to be the coolest flag in the world!

  • UK is a mongrel nation, and in a 100 years we will all be coffee colored, and I do not mind that at all!

  • wheres the welsh part on the union jack reds england white england blue scotland im proud to be welsh not brittish Cymru am Byth

  • @Santaisreal100 I believe when the Union was formed, Wales was still a colony to England, so they're represented by the white cross.

  • @lol4madwafflesh thats true ...wales was offcially part of england until 1959......your precious union tried to not only destroy the words sung here but also whipped my great gran for speaking them.......get real the 'welsh' sheltered from reality...its still not an official language as not in private sector

  • @3tangle3 if you feel so strongly about the Welsh language why don't you try learning it and spend less time bitching on YT? I speak Welsh but would never diss England or any 1 else

  • @dimgwalltameiben I am not talking about the english...i am talking about the state...have you never read the treachery of the blue books or anything? my Great gran was caned for speaking welsh at 7 and had to carry a lead weight to mark the welsh not...........don;t be so ignorant

  • @dimgwalltameiben Nerth gwlad, ei gwybodaeth. Better get swotting bachan lol

  • @dimgwalltameiben Yeah, well done. Welsh is heading the same way as Cornish, you're in a position the help reverse that trend except for one snag YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED!

  • @dimgwalltameiben cau dy ffwcin ceg....dic sion dafydd ;)

  • England and Wales! The two best countries in the world!

    CYRMU A LLOEGR

  • "United we stand. Divided we fall". Your generally united hatred of the Anglo Saxons helped you to, eventually, produce the world's best national anthem. Enjoy. Leave us with the ....... Hanoverians and their cousins. But, it is possible to love England and ignore it's aristocracy.

  • shame they are not a indepent country

  • technically britian should be called cymru as it originally was called, cymru means nation along with being the welsh word for wales.

  • @flashash2k9 what we know as the west country was called right up until the 1600s West wales due to the cornish legacy!

  • Welsh and proud. :)

  • Cymraeg yw fy iaith gorau erioed!

  • soooo proud to be welsh !!!!!

  • Proud to be welsh !!!

  • The most Beautyfull anthem of them ALL,wish i could understand the words,a genuine question here,im irish, been to England several times, love the place, was planning on going on hols there again this year, but want to take in Wales as well,is it safe for Irish people,my friend got beaten up in Scotland when they heard his Irish accent,is Wales o.k that way,any tips on places of interest to visit.cheers in advance,ps,Hard luck on the rugby last week,ye will be back stronger than ever next year.

  • what you thinking? pubs or landmarks?

if it's pubs i can help you out, landmarks you should tell me to fuck off

not welsh but a student living there

  • @afro10k ,sorry about the delay getting back to you,to be honest with you the idea of going to wales would be for the scenery, landmarks and the castles around the coast,i take a drink but the pub scene is not for me,i would love to see Harlech, caernarfon and some of the other amazing castles, please God i will get there in the summer. Thanks for the reply afro10k.

  • @NormanGlory Cardiff castle is pretty nice then, and i hear there's a nice one in Narbeth in Pembrokeshire

also St Fagans might interest you, it's a place that contains buildings from all around Wales which have been moved brick by brick to St Fagans open air museum, fantastic craic, also sorry for any mis-spellings in this post, i think i have drink induced dyslexia

  • you are more than safe, your mate may well have been in the wrong area as regards sectarianism, none of that here, we love ALL fellow Celts.

  • of course it's safe, we love all fellow Celts, we're not into sectarianism here.

  • lets face facts.

have you ever seen a better designed flag than that.

no country can better the welsh flag.

  • I don't think you can compare a flag adopted by a Board of Council Workers in 1959 to the hundreds of flags around the world - especially ones which have much, much more human and cultural importance attached to them.

  • you do not know what you are talking about.

    Human and cultural importance?

    my comment stands.

can you tell me of abetter designed flag than our welsh flag.

I do not wish to get into any argument with you.

but just answer my question, its easy.

you can say yes or no.

If your answer is yes then please enlighten me by telling me whos countrys flag is better and why you think so.BEST REGARDS.

  • I wouldn't have written it if I didn't know what I was talking about!! Have you always been a parrot? YES, Human and Cultural Importance. To say "no country can better the Welsh flag" is slightly arrogant - I'd love to know what you mean by 'better'. I can tell you of many "better designed" flags (although it really is a matter of taste). When it comes to dragons, I think the flag of Bhutan is better than the Welsh flag. So, in answer to your question..... yes :)

  • well in my last reply to you,

i tried to be as pleasant as possible.

but when a terrier sees a rat it acts on instinct.

as to regards of any other flag (including your sais flag).

shove them up your arse along with your chariot.

  • Sorry I don't understand - What exactly are you saying wales is?

  • The is about our great country. It about the writers, the singers, the landmarks and the views of wales

  • @GrandPrix55 ......We can't ....he died 25 September 2000 !!!!

  • GWLAD GLWAD!,

    WALES WALES!

  • unfortunatly the england coach paid the ref 2 day so it wasnt very fair any way by far best national anthem GWLAD GWLAD

  • c'mon boys we can do it today xxx

  • prowd to bw welsh

  • cumrais a proud wir iawn

  • Best feeling in the world...its not even a song its just there like the universe!!!! FTW :@

  • pre celt > celt> saxon/viking malarky > norman ruthless bastards > aristocracy toffs....we are going back ward in progression! Bring on the singularity 2057 *puts on shades* lets roll

  • if anything the english (no offence) came over as anlo saxons and stole the scotish irish and welsh land, england before was a celtic region, thats why we sorta hate england, dnt take offence to this im just telling you history

  • CONQUERED not Stole.

All you Roman-conquered Celts (right no England when the Roman were here - they conquered you Celts) were then conquered by the English which is why you communicate NOW IN ENGLISH.

Get used to it you losers.

  • I really am sorry if i insult you.... but didn't wales help to beat scotland and ireland?

  • The Scots in practice don;t give a toss about the Welsh. Scots are no longer Celt.. look at them.

Not exactly ginger versions of Zeta Jones.

  • rydw i yn siarad cymreag, i speak welsh dick head, the only reason we donot speak it as much as we did is because you twats made it. and during the early 1800s and onwards you forced us to speak it in welsh schools, your calling us losers...ok? obviously your not a winner are you? because mst of your language is made up from various other languages.

  • @GrandPrix55 its sad they lost their languages

  • @3tangle3 we didn't

  • PROUD 2 B WELSH!!!!!!!!!

(even tho my mum live in englad for 3 yrs-traitor)

  • Helo o Lydaw. Yma nid ydym wedi anghofio ein gwreiddiau cyffredin. Mae llawer o'n efengylwyr y mae nifer o'n dinasoedd yn ymroddedig Cymru. Nid anghofio y lleoedd sy'n atgoffa un Cymraeg. A frwdfrydig gefnder sydd wedi popeth i ddenu gwareiddiad Celtaidd.

  • Practisio hwn yn yr ysgol rydw i'n crio achos mae uncle yn hoffi'r hwn ac my o wedi marw ac wedi cael funeral bach gyda fi yna fi wedi fod yn un-happus on wedi clywed hwn fod memory wedi ddod nol, diolch yn fawr.

  • Pam nad yw pobl yn ei chanu hi'n iawn - "pleidiol" nid "plaidiol" a "beirdd" nid "bairdd"? Mae "ai" ac "ei" yn swnio'n hollol wahanol.

Why don't people sing it properly - "pleidiol" not "plaidiol" and "beirdd" not "bairdd"? "Ei" and "ai" sound totally different. "ei" is like the vowel in "save", whilst "ai" is the vowel in "I've". I don't know anybody who pronounces the words like that when speaking - so why do they when singing??? Annoying.

  • dont you dare come with the name calling!!! ya daft basterd!!! and dont pretend to know things either, your an ignorant arsehole so stop it before you cause something that you will later regret, ok.

  • CELTS UNITE!!!!

    Spread the word; Peace/Heddwch,

Humble apologies if deemed spam but the truth will out :)

  • cause Diana wasn't actually Welsh, maybe?

  • LOL... WOW! I thought the English only talked to us Americans like that!! It's good to see that they're spreading the love, if not the wealth, in their commonwealth!!! So, how come they didn't play this beautiful anthem at the Princess of WALES' funeral in 1997? (I'd prefer someone Welsh answer this question. Thanks)

  • before u ask i am welsh and i ask the same question yanoo so not fair the english scum have to be every thing it wud be better for something this beautifull got played :)

  • I love this anthem. Someone answered that Diana's not actually Welsh. By that estimation, they should be playing Deutschland Uber Alles at Westminster Abbey when they're burying members of the Windsor-Mountbatten clan.

  • diana??? you deluded idiot?

non of them belong to cymru ya twit we had our own royalty!!!

  • ydych yn bobl interbred, ac os ydych arent gwlad, EICH A Principality

  • Pam oes geiriau saesneg yn y brawddeg yna? dydy e ddim yn gwnaed synwr i ddwaed y gwir.

  • I'm Cymraeg (Welsh) and British, and pleased to be both. The varied cultures in the British Isles are among our great strengths.

Foul-mouthed generalising haters are a disgrace to whichever country they call their own.

  • British derives from brythonic. British is a political identity not a cultural one and thats the truth. I am very proud of this isalnd and all good peoples, that why I feel British is a political identity MADE UP of cultural identities as small as Berwick upon tweed identity :) Peace

  • @danlefou You are a language? As far I remember right "Cymraeg" is the language and everything in that language, and "Cymreig" is the adjective for anything else.

Anyway: If that is your strengh, then you should do all that is possible for you to keep it that way - otherwise you won't have much left of these cultures soon. (speaking as a German who has witnessed teh downfall of the lowgerman language an culture)

  • @danlefou "Cymraeg" is the welsh language... not a welsh person. :) lol

  • @danlefou do you speak welsh? i want the united kingdom to keep united too , and i like the variety of cultures in the british isles

  • @danlefou british is orign from brythonic...its was never used until 1700 by the neglish until they needed a way to get the scots to unify with enlgand...the union flag was designed by a hanoverian merchant...the true britons are the welsh and cornish cultures ...all I hop for is the truth and understanding....my great gran died with the same whip marks she got for speaking welsh...there is still a long way to go

  • @danlefou and its cymreig not cymraeg when talking about welsh identity

  • @danlefou cytuno

    Do you speak welsh?

  • @danlefou brythonic and welsh were the same......how were you fooled other wise.........welsh are the original briton culture twpsyn lol

  • @danlefou its cymreig for welsh people....cymraeg is the language.......y cymry were the old school british (brython) without the welsh and the roman occupation there would be no name of britain

  • @danlefou By "Foul-mouthed generalising haters" do you mean people who think all nations from The Isles are one nation?

  • @danlefou Umm you're not Cymraeg you're: Cymro neu Cymraes a Prydain

  • su ma eich tim peldroed yn neud!!!! haha! fel bod ni yn poeni! ma lloegr am colli yn rownd gynta cwpan y byd! HAHA

  • your comments mean nothing you are american so noone really payes any attention to you i spit on you filthy american scum.

  • How are your soccer team doing? Will they be playing in the world cup?

  • fuck u english cunt

  • I'm not English you dumb Taffy cunt

  • The welsh dont shag sheep, only the english who have, for lack of a better word,"migrated" to wales.:)They do that to give us a poor name.
