Understand that Supra's get a LOT of hype because they are "heavy" cars, with a great engine. You have to do a LOT to them in total to get them to run 200+mph. With off the shelf Bolt-Ons, they're just like everyone else. There are many factors that govern how fast you can accelerate. Races are won on acceleration, not top end. Factos such as gearing all make a difference, not just HP. The tC is a fairly new platform for racing. It's not ideal because of the small eng/gears. But can be fun.
Furthermore, I happen to own a tC with this turbo kit and some other upgrades from TRD like a limited slip differentia, racing clutch, short throw shifter, torque damper, exhaust, and 9 inch wide front tires. Id love to see any honda beat me. In order to do that you would have to spend at least 15k more. Its toyotas world your just living in it. Furthermore, the supra is the most common street driven car today to have over 1000hp which I think is a testament to toyotas quality.
wouldn't cost that much, hondas have been around so long that people know what works. for example you can boost a B series to around 250whp with little to no engine strengthening (assuming a proper tune) and put it into an early 90's chassis and still keep up, and all of that and the car put together wouldn't even cost close to $15k, more like $5k. i guess you could probably do the same thing with something like an old corolla. although, a built tc would be easier to live with.
It doesn't matter what car you have. All cars are a shell. Depending on your commitment and funds you can pretty much make any sport compact fast. The scion tC is a great platform to build yourself an everyday street racer that can own cars that cost 3 times as much at a red light. All with out looking like a puerto rican in a rusted out bubble from the 90's with a tin can exhaust red lining every gear. Scion tCs are great cars and toyota makes quality shit for cheap thats why everyone is copyin

whats the 1/4 mile specs for the stage 2 turbonetics kit...i know this is gonna sound bad but my girls gotta tc and shes in shows and shit but wants to get serious bout racing the strip with me and moving on to closed courses and wants a turbo i like the turbonetics stage 2 gains but wat does it lead to with bolt ons in the 1/4 (megan headers, megan full catback racing exhaust, and turbonetics stage 2 with aem controller)
Don't think there is different stage levels to the tnetics kit. If you want to be real competitive Tnetics kit is not the best option. Check out PTuning(dot)com
If you wanna get serious, you ditch the TC motor and get your hands on a 3sgte engine and toss that bitch in the TC. The engine itself is going to give you more HP and cost you less than trying to get your hands on some silly turbo kit that is only going to give you 100HP tops. The 3sgte is an engine that is upgradeable up to 900HP. You can go with 3rd gen or 2nd gen, but 3rd gen is faster in the beginning. After 300HP, they are both in the same.
BHAHAA...100hp tops huh? That's what you thin really...lol. Guess making 350-400whp on the stock motor must have been blessed by the tooth fairy. On 10lbs of boost the tC's stock motor makes 300whp give or take a few. Add some meth and raise the boost to 14lbs and your looking at close to 400whp.
Really? I thought because the engine had perfection compression ratio (high) it posed as a problem because for turbo applications, low compression for high boost was ideal?
9:6.1 compression and 2.4L = great for turbo. In comparison, the Civic SI has 11:0.1 compression, that's what I consider and a lot of people consider to be high compression.
14:7 or 14:1.....WHOOA who told you that...lol. If it had that much compression, it would make WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY more power than 160hp/161tq stock. Think about it...14:7 or 14:1 compression on a 2.4L motor does not equal 160hp.
Well I suppose, but wouldn't that also have to deal with less of power and more of fuel efficiency? I admit that I am novice to engine talk, I am in my 1st semester of engine overhaul class and was ill prepared to take this course at this time. But I thought it had to deal with fuel efficiency, but for performance I can see how it could result in power as the compression is related to how the air-fuel is brought in from the intake stroke.
Fuel efficiency? Naw....not really. I believe the Civic SI still gets around the same mpg as the tC does. A high compression motor will/should make more power in a PSI vs PSI comparison to a lower compression motor. But the downfall to that is, the lower compression motor can run more boost without running into detonation.
Yeah see, that's what I heard. So it is the high compression motors that usually run at lower boost? Ok, so I am not too familiar with Honda motors, but I hear for a Honda motor, they can't boost past 15psi, is this true? Do those engines have high compression then? Since usually Honda motors are just all top end speed? Or am I just being retarded now? I find this topic really interesting as it is new to me. As I mentioned before, I am going to school for all this but just started.
Yeah, it's the high comp ones that can't run that much boost. Honda motors need to push a lot of boost because of their small displacement. They run real high in revs also, but make little torque. I've always thought there were two types of car enthusiast. Ones that like to rev REALLY high, and scream at high rpms, and those that like a lot of Torque that gives you that "put you in your seat" feel.
You don't find to often a car that revs high, and still makes a crap load of tQ unless it's been pretty modded. Definitely won't find one from the factory. The tC, after you drop in some valve springs, valves, retainers in the head, you can do just that, rev high and still make a crap load of tq. 8000k rpm and 400whp/400wtq sounds real good. Have never seen a Honda motor rev to 8k and still make the same tQ numbers as HP. They just don't. I'm a tQ guy. I love the low end/mid range power.
I work with a kid who's trying to buy a tC and want's to Turbo it, so I've been helping with the research on it. He tells me the tC makes more Tq than HP, I was like, REALLY!? that's fuck'n awesome! Usually it's the other way around, like with my RSX-S. More HP than Tq. I was tell'n him that torque is full of WIN. But you want to be careful of wheel spin. As long as you can keep the grip when shifting gears, you should be good with lots ot Tq.
Indeed it does. Kinda like the SRT4 does. Not until you get up to around 450-500whp does the HP start separating from the Tq numbers. That definitely is one thing I enjoyed about it, having the torque to go with the HP. And then on top of that, redlining at 7500rpms will be great once I get the head built. Right now, I only bumped it up to about 6500rpms from the stock 6250. The stock head can handle 7krpms before it needs a valve train upgrade.
Word. In a car with THAT much Tq to the wheels, meaning Tq that is equal or more than the HP output, having a lot of RPMs could be good, and bad. Bad because the engine is making a LOT of Tq at those RPMs, and could lead to failure more easily. depending on the stroke and compression of your engine, I'd be careful of how high you take the RPMs. You already have no worries with the Tq availible to you. I'd say build on that rather than upping the R's. Save your engine. Especially boosted.
No worries, there are tC's already pushing 500+whp and reving to 8k rpms with it. The stock valve train is good for about 7k rpms. After that then you have to upgrade the valves, retainers, springs...etc in the head. And then should be good to up it to around 7500-8000rpms. Won't do us any good to go over 8k though. We have a good abundance of torque over the powerband that it's not necessary to go higher than that. I am talking boosted motor here by the way. I've been boosted for 3+ yrs
Awesome news here. This is what I was looking for, as far as info on stuff like this. I wasn't thinking this would turn into a forum for it, but it has and I'm thankful. You don't normally see people able to gain lots of good info from Youtube, usually it's just people talking shit. But, hearing that 3+ years boosted and you haven't spoken of any failures means A). you're doing it right, and/or B). You haven't had to do a lot to keep it stable.
That's one thing you have is that high rpm band, which is good for really big turbos that need a lot of RPM to reach full boost on. That's why you see Hondas running BIG ASS turbo's on like a freaklin 1.8L...lol. Cause they have all that RPM to use. So, 7500 on the tC is considered high for us, and it works great with the amount of torque the motor puts out. Do a search on Purevision scion tC. They have theirs redline at 8k rpms.
with the K20A2 in my car, it's a solid platform, and doesn't really need to go much higher than 8k for optimum power output. I've noticed that at 7500 I'm HAULING ASS, no mattter what gear I'm in. And always accelerating enough to keep me in my seat. Which makes me HAPPY. I'm always impressed when I see the spedo say 60 and RPMs say 7900 and I'm in second gear... lol. and STILL accelerating. I think if I could take it to 9k it'd shit a Piston into outer space...lol.
Remember seeing a vid of a Honda (forget motor), reving to 10k. Pretty freakin high, but it is what that motor was designed to do. Like I said, you either rev real high and have no torque, or not AS high, and have a shit ton of low end torque. In my case, I can have the best of both worlds....hehee. Cause I'm going to make the torque anyway. And I can bump the rpms with my computer. I will leave it at 6500 on boost and the stock head. When the head is built, I'm setting it to 7500.
Yeah, I totally recommened an entirely new valvetrain build up for this guy who wants to boost his car. I said, "you're gonn'a want to do this all the way, not half assed bro, otherwise you'll be doing a new valve job anyway, or pulling a Valve out'a the cyl"... he was suprised to hear that. I told him, there's far more involved than just putting a turbo on it. I recommended Cams, Vales, Ti Retainers, all that. That way you don't ever have to worry about something failing under pressure.
Well, I wouldn't go that far. You don't need to build anything if you are doing a basic turbo kit. Just make sure it's tuned properly. No need to fix something that isn't broke...know what I mean. He will be fine with just a turbo kit and tuning. Definitely change out the clutch though. Don't need all the rest of that stuff unless he is trying to make 400+whp.
Honda when it comes to performance, 9 out of 10 your going to find reving high 8-10k rpm, and the only performance group that have just as many N/A'ed as they do F/I. IF....and that's a BIG IF, I was a Honda guy, I would build an N/A'ed car out of it and rev the hell out of it. I would just prefer to make it all Motor, they are really good at being All Motor. BUT....I'm not a Honda guy, as mentioned....I love tQ.
look at the top right corner of the valve cover and start moving to ur right the bov is the silver circle with the red center lol we are both talking about the same thing i just wasnt descrptive enough lol
The BOV sould be placed prior to the compressor, if the Turbo is mounted directly to the intake manifold, if not, then you could have the BOV after the Compressor before the manifold. Either way, it should be visible and readily accessible for adjustment. maybe his is set too tight? I say back it out a little bit and give it a low threshhold so it won't make the thing stutter like it is in the vid. With a good kit like Turbonetics, I'm guessing the BOV would come with the kit. Does it not?
Dont buy crap from Vivid Racing!! POS company. Ordered a greddy turbo kit for my honda and that shit took 3 1/2 months to get to me..... i waited patiently just getting the runaround!! So I decided to give them another shot and ordered an exhaust for my tC.. Nope same shit took 3 months! Dont buy crap from this company!
first mistake: getting a greddy turbo. Did you look at their inventory first to see if they had them in stock? Sometimes places will or won't show the number they have in stock. If they show the number and it's 1, then they might be back ordered and they don't want to show that they don't have any so they can still make a sale. It doesn't take that long to even make the frick'n things. good job with the heads up though.
wow all these ppl bagin on it, well i dont see any vids of ur cars on here with turbo so untill i see ur cars with turbo doing shit then ill give u props so atleast this guy has shit unlike u pog ass bitches

24okay 2 years ago
Fuel efficiency? Naw....not really. I believe the Civic SI still gets around the same mpg as the tC does. A high compression motor will/should make more power in a PSI vs PSI comparison to a lower compression motor. But the downfall to that is, the lower compression motor can run more boost without running into detonation.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
Yeah see, that's what I heard. So it is the high compression motors that usually run at lower boost? Ok, so I am not too familiar with Honda motors, but I hear for a Honda motor, they can't boost past 15psi, is this true? Do those engines have high compression then? Since usually Honda motors are just all top end speed? Or am I just being retarded now? I find this topic really interesting as it is new to me. As I mentioned before, I am going to school for all this but just started.
24okay 2 years ago
Yeah, it's the high comp ones that can't run that much boost. Honda motors need to push a lot of boost because of their small displacement. They run real high in revs also, but make little torque. I've always thought there were two types of car enthusiast. Ones that like to rev REALLY high, and scream at high rpms, and those that like a lot of Torque that gives you that "put you in your seat" feel.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
You don't find to often a car that revs high, and still makes a crap load of tQ unless it's been pretty modded. Definitely won't find one from the factory. The tC, after you drop in some valve springs, valves, retainers in the head, you can do just that, rev high and still make a crap load of tq. 8000k rpm and 400whp/400wtq sounds real good. Have never seen a Honda motor rev to 8k and still make the same tQ numbers as HP. They just don't. I'm a tQ guy. I love the low end/mid range power.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
I work with a kid who's trying to buy a tC and want's to Turbo it, so I've been helping with the research on it. He tells me the tC makes more Tq than HP, I was like, REALLY!? that's fuck'n awesome! Usually it's the other way around, like with my RSX-S. More HP than Tq. I was tell'n him that torque is full of WIN. But you want to be careful of wheel spin. As long as you can keep the grip when shifting gears, you should be good with lots ot Tq.
No problem with having plenty of Tq.
MurpheeLaw 2 years ago
Indeed it does. Kinda like the SRT4 does. Not until you get up to around 450-500whp does the HP start separating from the Tq numbers. That definitely is one thing I enjoyed about it, having the torque to go with the HP. And then on top of that, redlining at 7500rpms will be great once I get the head built. Right now, I only bumped it up to about 6500rpms from the stock 6250. The stock head can handle 7krpms before it needs a valve train upgrade.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
MurpheeLaw 2 years ago
No worries, there are tC's already pushing 500+whp and reving to 8k rpms with it. The stock valve train is good for about 7k rpms. After that then you have to upgrade the valves, retainers, springs...etc in the head. And then should be good to up it to around 7500-8000rpms. Won't do us any good to go over 8k though. We have a good abundance of torque over the powerband that it's not necessary to go higher than that. I am talking boosted motor here by the way. I've been boosted for 3+ yrs
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
Awesome news here. This is what I was looking for, as far as info on stuff like this. I wasn't thinking this would turn into a forum for it, but it has and I'm thankful. You don't normally see people able to gain lots of good info from Youtube, usually it's just people talking shit. But, hearing that 3+ years boosted and you haven't spoken of any failures means A). you're doing it right, and/or B). You haven't had to do a lot to keep it stable.
Either way, sounds like U know what U R doing.
MurpheeLaw 2 years ago
That's one thing you have is that high rpm band, which is good for really big turbos that need a lot of RPM to reach full boost on. That's why you see Hondas running BIG ASS turbo's on like a freaklin 1.8L...lol. Cause they have all that RPM to use. So, 7500 on the tC is considered high for us, and it works great with the amount of torque the motor puts out. Do a search on Purevision scion tC. They have theirs redline at 8k rpms.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
with the K20A2 in my car, it's a solid platform, and doesn't really need to go much higher than 8k for optimum power output.
MurpheeLaw 2 years ago
Remember seeing a vid of a Honda (forget motor), reving to 10k. Pretty freakin high, but it is what that motor was designed to do. Like I said, you either rev real high and have no torque, or not AS high, and have a shit ton of low end torque. In my case, I can have the best of both worlds....hehee. Cause I'm going to make the torque anyway. And I can bump the rpms with my computer. I will leave it at 6500 on boost and the stock head. When the head is built, I'm setting it to 7500.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
Yeah, I totally recommened an entirely new valvetrain build up for this guy who wants to boost his car. I said, "you're gonn'a want to do this all the way, not half assed bro, otherwise you'll be doing a new valve job anyway, or pulling a Valve out'a the cyl"... he was suprised to hear that. I told him, there's far more involved than just putting a turbo on it. I recommended Cams, Vales, Ti Retainers, all that. That way you don't ever have to worry about something failing under pressure.
MurpheeLaw 2 years ago
Well, I wouldn't go that far. You don't need to build anything if you are doing a basic turbo kit. Just make sure it's tuned properly. No need to fix something that isn't broke...know what I mean. He will be fine with just a turbo kit and tuning. Definitely change out the clutch though. Don't need all the rest of that stuff unless he is trying to make 400+whp.
rhythmnsmoke 2 years ago
thats probably NOT the best thing to do lol.
azndesire92 2 years ago
Honda when it comes to performance, 9 out of 10 your going to find reving high 8-10k rpm, and the only performance group that have just as many N/A'ed as they do F/I. IF....and that's a BIG IF, I was a Honda guy, I would build an N/A'ed car out of it and rev the hell out of it. I would just prefer to make it all Motor, they are really good at being All Motor. BUT....I'm not a Honda guy, as mentioned....I love tQ.

BOV????
zm354526 3 years ago
wouldnt need one, not a lot of boost going through
if it was pushing high power and a lot of boost, then yes or else there would be compressor surge...and that would be bad
04mustangsvtcobra 3 years ago
at 0:29 u can clearly see the bov in the right top corner
turbo97coupe 3 years ago
no thats the intake, the bov is in the middleish on the right
mazda6tuner99 3 years ago
look at the top right corner of the valve cover and start moving to ur right the bov is the silver circle with the red center lol we are both talking about the same thing i just wasnt descrptive enough lol
turbo97coupe 3 years ago

Johngy10 3 years ago
thats because they dont like shipping to mexico
coldgreentea 3 years ago
first mistake: getting a greddy turbo.
