Wow! I watched this broadcast on German TV in 1977. I think it was the first Rockpalast simulcast I saw. Recorded the audio on my reel-to-reel over FM, but the reception wasn't good that night. Didn't matter, 'cause I had a party, what was usual then in Germany during Rockpalast broadcasts. Glad to see a lot of those old "Rocknights" up on YouTube in HQ.
randomly stumbled upon this song...brought a tear to my eye, it was such musical perfection. can anyone recommend another song by this artist or any that are similar in the genre. thanks and keep the good music going!
Love Bill Payne's keyboards.. lovely. And yeah, missing Lowell-- it truly aches. I met him a couple of times- I was with older people and just a teen, but he was a genial and funny man brimming with musical talent.
Think it was 1974. Went to see Jean Luc Ponty(sp?), violinist for Frank Zappa at the State Theatre in Mpls. Everybody in line, which went for blocks, was there just to see the warm up band called Little Feat. Didn't know much about them at the time. Couldn't figure out why everybody would be there for just the warm up band and not the main act. Called them back three times. Looked over at my friends and said, "well, now we know"!
did Barrere and Payne gang up on Lowell at the end... the body language and what I've heard suggests that there was no love lost at the heart of this band when it ended.....did Lowell get too big for his boots? his little feat.....
@ElvisesCarcass they just hated that his drug problem was getting the best of him..which got him to do his LAST solo album....it did finally get to him. The Grateful Dead tried to do the same thing to Jerry but it didnt work and all of jerry's kids followed jerry........till jerry died as well...
LA..Aug. 1968...my new manager, John Franzoni, brought me backstage to see a band he managed..the Fraternity of Man..Lowell was sitting in with them...I met Richie Hayward that night..a great drummer and a great person...always caught them when they passed my way over the years..Happy New Year boys..wherever you are..catch you on down the road.
one of the best concerts i've had the pleasure to see. i can't remember who opened up with them, but it was fantastic. love you guys. RIP RICHIE YOUR WITH GEORGE NOW! I'LL SEE YOU ONE DAY...........................
Great performance! Did you notice the change in recording rigs at 3:00? Very interesting. I was surprised by LG's right hand work on this one. He handled the gas guitar unlike the way he played the lectric guitar.
Little Feat are still "Willin" , they are the BEST "unknown" band I know. From the Mother's and the 60's, when I caught on, to today in 2010. They can't be labled, and they "can't be beat". I took my son to his 1st live show ever... Feat.... I took my grandaughter to her 1st live show ever.. Feat... My dad didn't care much for them, but thought they had "some " talent. Lowell was there at the start, but the rest still have a "Rocket" in their pocket. Thank God For Little Feat!!!
@twowheelflyercr Don't know that Zappa didn't like it, but he didn't think it was right for the Mothers. Country feel and the drug references didn't agree with him.
Trivia question, easy for true feat fans. You most likely know this song from the album "Waiting For Columbus". What studio album is this song found on? Hint, trick question.
@noushitaisa The trick part of the question is that it was on "Sailin' Shoes" as you mentioned, but it was also on the self titled first album. Kind of strange that they include it on both of the first two records. I like "Sailin' Shoes", too. I saw a interview with Lowell where he said that it was his favorite.
no one played cleaner slide gutair than Lowell George. Shit, he was in the Mothers of Invention. Frank Zappa always had great musicians in his bands. Growing up in Washington, DC I was always a big Little Feat fan. Lowell has written some awsome music. He worked with many artists. I remember when he died at the 14th Marriott in Arlington, Va. R.I.P.
Was watching the stunning video of Linda and Bonnie doing "Blowing Away" from the concert for Lowell and Weed, Whites and Wine popped into my head. I did not even know that Lowell was the Little Feat singer.
I've a fan of Little Feat since I saw them touring with the Grateful Dead. One of the best jam bands ever. I was a little surprised when I listened to this song today it actually brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for the post...
My all time favorite band. I wore out more copies of Waiting For Columbus in Vinyl, 8-Track, cassette, and CD than I can remember. I was living on Kauai when Lowell George passed away. I went into a store to cash my paycheck and saw a Rolling Stone cover in memoriam and I was stunned. I miss that band very much to this day. Truly a band of first rate high caliber musicians, each of them. Thanks for the post.
