    thats a man, baby

  • EverQuest was great. I have such fond memories. I was a complete noob to MMOrpgs and the internet itself, actually. So since it was my first it will always hold a special place. Also - all the people I met during those years. It was a great community.

  • EQ really was crack.... people lost jobs, family, friends and even lives lol....

  • EQ is still leading the way in MMO's with the new Merc's available. I checked them out just a few minutes ago after seeing the "bot party", and they are pretty awesome... No more waiting on a healer to join the group!

  • Was a good game until the expansion that came after Kunark... was so long ago I can't remember what it was called, like Velious or something.

  • $med goes from looking like a fat "suit" to looking like a Nazi. He's finally coming out, folks! woo hoo!

Oh and for a more "modern" version of EQ's western port of Qeynos, check my channel - made it myself using the toolset that comes with Neverwinter Nights 2.

  • Hell YESSSSSS EQ for the win

  • Asheron's call was better than EQ1.

  • Unfortunately this seems to be idolizing Sony's bastardized version of EQ, which I don't miss once bit. I miss the game that Verant created, before Sony got their claws into it.

  • Congratulations. Verant WAS Sony.

  • sibermonkey - that is intersesting. It's something I certainly didn't know. Regardless at some point the game seemed to lose it's soul for me. Maybe I just got bored with it.

  • 989 Studios game/online development branch spun off, initially calling itself RedEye Interactive and then soon after Verant Interactive. SOE acquired Verant in June 2000. But yes all of these departments were/are part of Sony.

  • this would have been a cool Vid like 8 years ago.. Why show this now..

  • 10th year ani

  • I loved EQ. A guy I used to work with turned me on to the original. MMORPGs just haven't been the same again, including EQ2.

To this day I'm not really sure what element it was in the original that hooked me so badly, but WoW almost has a taste of it at times. I think it was the way they balanced classes. There was something really elegant about the way the classes played, It just felt right.

Soloing with a druid in EQ1 I think is an experience unmatched in any other MMO to this day.

  • I believe its because there was no balance tbh. No one cared. It was just a strange game with tons to explore and discover.

Now that people are masters of MMOs coupled with MMOs being dumbed down to childs play, you can;t get anywhere near that experience anymore.

  • "coupled with MMOs being dumbed down to childs play"

Quite right. I played EQ for years, then tried WoW for a month and couldn't do it. EQ takes teamwork to take down the big targets, teamwork unseen in any other game.
