Moral of the story, don't buy a real tree, the plastic one didn't burn well. Plus rather than having to water it every day, you spend your time doing much mire important things like, watching football.
@Loveschuck87 : the second tree isn't plastic, it's just a tree that had been watered regularly, and therefore didn't readily burn, unlike the tree that wasn't watered enough on the left.
Real trees are a pain - even a well-watered tree will still shed lots of needles. If you've managed to avoid a fire and don't mind cleaning up the needle mess after the holidays, there's still the problem of getting rid of it. Fake tree for me thanks!
Yeah but even if you do water it, it may have a sap seal (if you took more than 15 minutes getting it home after a fresh cut) preventing it from taking up water.
genuine tree: pros: looks like a real tree cons: needs to be watered can be flammable fake tree: pros: safer non flammable doesn't need to be watered cons: doesn't look real pointy parts fall off, can puncture skin
Bet back in the day before electricity there was lot of house fires because of this.
They used to put candles on the tree instead of lights! And pine tree burns like crazy. You can get 10 foot flames by putting a bunch of branches in a camp fire, I can't imagine a whole tree in a house. No way you're putting that out once you discover it and the heat and smoke are most likely unbearable. I'd be curious to see a comparison with a fake tree and the one on the right.
@cmammlj but why should we off our christmas lights before going to bed when you can just lay down on a couch where the christmas lights are while you can just watch your christmas lights to make sure if it catches on fire so you can warn everyone in the house to get out?
Well, this isnt helping anyone. The presents are still on fire even tho u water the tree regularly. Xmas is ruined cuz no one's getting their AK-47s with sniper scopes.
A real tree cut within a week will burn just as well. Check out the related videos. This info is not accurate and provides viewers with a false sense of security.
Real trees are full of sap!!! - Sap burns just as well as dry wood...
In addition to being sensible with lights, it helps to cut an extra 2 inches off your tree when you get home, then stick it in water right away. Otherwise the cut edge seals and it's hard to get more water into the tree.
Real trees aren't really that dangerous of you water them, as evidenced by the video. Also, if you have real tree and light candles on them you're clearly stupid, but regular Christmas lights can cause fire on dry trees as well.
We've used fake trees ever since I was a child; this is exactly why. It makes me shudder to think people used to use real trees and burn candles on them!
what's the popping noise? I assume it's the bulbs on the Christmas lights popping? Man imagine you leave to go somewhere and you come back and half your beautiful Christmas tree is burned out. Not as worse as your house burned down though. Glad I have a fake tree with miniature lights. My aunt always gets a real one with the big C7 lights, it's such a fire hazard.
Please call or write your Congressman ASAP and ask them to sponsor The Fire Sprinkler Act of 2009 (H.R. 1194) (Google it for details) The complete total cost of fire is estimated at $317 billion, or roughly 2.8% of
U.S. gross domestic product and 117 priceless firefighters lives (2007 data)
that is not fake snow uner the tree its a cloth and thers hay where the fire started thate is fake and why the hell did u decorate the tree you dum dum's
Here in Denmark (DK) everybody has a real tree like that one..but if you take it in very late - the day of so - it won't be any big problem as long as you make sure there is nothing above the lighst on the tree. It not enough to make sure that nothing has contact with the fire, but you also have to make sure it have at least 2" around and 5" above free.
Please do as told by the government, but do also think by yourself and be aware!!
ok so is this video suppose to be like that we should take precautions and water are trees regularly and turn of the lights a t night is that what it means like a psa
Yeah, it's important to be very careful with how you water your tree. We burn ours on New Years, after letting it purposely dry out (outside of the house!). It lights up so fast it almost looks like it explodes.
the tree didnt set hitself on fire ya know. fake tree's would of been even more bad. plastic fumes an all.. problem was the lights were kept on over night an over heated. lookin at the fake snow under the tree. probably got hot. an caused the fire. so its not fake tree's u want its fake lights.. stay safe. turn power off when u go to bed
Wow, that's impressive and scary. I'm in an apartment so we're not allowed to have real trees. It would be interesting to see someone compare artificial to real though.
o wow the tree on the right did not even get burned like the one on the left lol that was funny the left tree is there popin on fire the right one just got one little burn on the bottom lol
This video offers a side-by-side view of what happens when a well-watered Christmas tree catches fire compared to one that has been dried out. (Both Christmas trees are real.) The tree on the left has been dried out to reflect the condition it would be in after several weeks of use without receiving water. The tree on the right is a fresh, well-watered tree that has been properly cared for and maintained.

@MegaZack30 , good question.
A good number of people do not sleep on the coach to keep an eye on the Christmas tree lights when there on at night.
I have a large Christmas village & I turn the lights off when I leave the house & go to bed.
Better to be safe then sorry.
