I absolutely adore you. I'm a novice with MAC products but wanting to wear more. I listen to your posts now so thank you for being honest and very informative!!! and you NEVER ramble. Thanks again!!
My foundation shade is NC25. What shade in concealer shall I go for? I want a concealer for under eye circles and for acne scars. My skin is normal to oily. What do you suggest? Thank you :)
sweet! i think i'm gonna go buy the studio finish concealer. i've been using estee lauder for years, and i've never tried mac face products so i don't really know what color i am.. :/
which concealer would u recommend if i have dark under eye circles and i need a yellow based concealer?....also my skin is very dry ...please respond thank yu
how dark is dark for under your eyes? because i have allergies. :/ and i always have bags under my eyes! i cant get rid of them! the only thing left is to try makeup, but the bags under my eyes are definitely lighter then a bruise. but its still pretty dark. i wan to buy a MAC product but i dont know which one to go with.
My favorite is the Mac ProLongwear concealer because after 8 hours of dancing & sweating, my makeup will look exactly the same! I have 2 questions though:
1. Mac concealers tend to oxidize on me in the summer (I'm an NC45ish) & turns ORANGE. Is there another brand of concealer that you would recommend?
2. Have you ever tried combining them to get a different consistency? (i.e. a layer of ProLongwear 1st then Select Moisture?
Also, I tried saving excess in an empty vial but it dries out
I recently got the Pro Longwear concealer and I agree that the pump is a pain. I try to control it but sometimes it just dispenses a lot. What I do is I blend it with my moisturiser. It's still a lot of product that could cover my whole face. I do like the coverage though. Great review. Thanks! :)
Thank you so much for this, it was really helpful. I'm getting my makeup done at a mac counter to practice for an upcoming wedding but every time I go they hardly ever put any makeup on me! Hopefully this time will be better, I def need concealer. The guy who did my makeup was going to let me leave without putting foundation on lol.
With my Pro Longwear concealer I anchor my thumb on the side while I'm pressing down with my index finger. This helps limit the amount of product that is dispensed. It's not completely foolproof, but more often than not it works - sometimes I even get too little product and have to go back to do it again.
I know this is about concealers but I'm having issues with my MAC pro long wear foundation it matches me pretty well but after like 10 minutes it would oxide on me is there something I can do about this?
which one would you recommend for under eyes? I'm currently using the pro longwear and i get what you're talking about and i see all these lines under my eyes! i've used moisture cover also but it fades on me. the darkness under my eyes are kind of mediocre I'd say, depends. and thank you!
Hey i just want to ask you about the studio sculpt concealer bc even though you only said good things about this product, in my under eye area it just looks muddy and it shows my wrinkles, it would mean a lot to me if you give an advice of application or something to set up this concealer bc i have this brand new product that i will not use like that! Thanks so much!!
check out the studio finish skin corrector. if you try it out, please add an extended concealer review! it says that it works well with under eye circles and I have very dark circles.
i don't want to buy it just to try it because I don't have a high budget so I would appreciate it if you wanted to try it, of your own will (and not because I wanted you too!) that you could also add an extended review!
Thank you for this VERY INFORMATIVE/HELPFUL review. I wish u worked at the MAC counter I go to bc u don't seem bias at all. One of the MAC MUA actually said that the pro longwear pump was "amazing" nd then said that it pumps way too much product lol I was like wait what?!
Everyone I use my studio finish concealer, the spot where I put it on always look dry like flaky. I tried putting a little moisturizer on top of it and it doesn't help. Any suggestion or am I using the wrong concealer?? I have dry/acne prone skin and the scar is what I am trying to cover up.
@BeautyLuV83 Try "repairing" the scar with Vitamin E oil (it's inexpensive). Just to soften the scar a little bit - You'll need to maintain that, probably at night... for... ever? For awhile anyway. Other than that, I'd suggest trying a different concealer, get a sample of a few kinds (even a sample of Studio Finish just to make sure yours isn't "bad") and try them out to see how they look.
@PindyFLove13 Totally depends on your skin tone. Usually something peachy though. Enkore actually has a REALLY detailed (and good) video on Skin Correctors. I was filming one when he went and uploaded his (the crafty bastard! LOL) so I just scrapped mine for now. His is good.
@dustyohunter ok will do :) btw, i just watched Enkore's color correcting video. definitely think that your video would be extremely helpful too. plus, it would make me feel really awesome if you you filmed a video i requested. no pressure lol
hey Dustin, really enjoyed watching this video but i was wondering, i have the studio finish concealer and my main problem with this product is that during the colder parts of the year it pretty much hardens up and i can't "brush" out or rub out a decent amount of product to conceal any imperfections! i just wanna know do you and does anyone else that bothers to read this comment have the same issue as i'm experiencing, and what do you all do to counter the problem?
I super love these exhaustive vids! Thank you for mentioning "the point of no return" with the pro-longwear. I'm clumsy to the point that I can't even spell prescision, so I thought I was the only person to have this problem. I don't get the heavy feeling though, but I do have superoily skin.
Dusty Hi. I have a request and think you are one of the few ppl who would be capable of doing this justice in terms of knowledge. Could you do a video about SPF in makeup and flash photography?. I use a Nikon D5000, Im not a pro but have been asked to do photos for a friends wedding. Obviosuly I will suggest she doesnt use SPF. This cld help a lot of ppl. Thank you x

@hcoloverxoxo616 studio fix fluid foundation actually... i tend to use foundations as concealer instead of concealer. i RARELY use cream concealers - i tend to not like cream foundations or concealers at all. if i was to pick one of these i'd pick select moisturcover - it feels nice and looks good (wouldn't use it for spot concealing though, just under the eye).
@SINGINGWORLD123 It might not then. I don't work for them so I don't know everything that they carry (or don't carry). Call your nearest counter and ask them :)
I just bought prolong wear and studio finish concealers. I have to agree with you that prolong wear gives this tightening feeling around the eyes. It covers better than a lot of the concealers I have but still it didnt cover my circles completely. Studio finish is very drying around my eyes. The only concealer that works is select cover up but it still doesnt cover my dark circles.
Thanks so much for sharing the info. Keep up the good work. :)
OMG. I completely agree with the Pro Longwear. The lady at the store used it on me and it was great. I loved the way it looked. Bought it, got it home, and made a huge mess. I use it and I love it, don't get me wrong, but the packaging completely sucks. Too much product comes out and once that happens you're screwed. I'll have to try that sample cup thing though you put in the note on the video. If they changed the packaging though, they'd make my life. Haha
Your videos are so helpful and full of information. i was wondering if i should get the studio sculpt or the studio finish. i have dark circles. and sometimes they are purple and fine lines (not horrible but definitely visible) i have dry skin so the studio sculpt would be better moisture wise and eh studio finish might be too drying. which one should i go for? thanks (: I SUBSCRIBED!
Hi, I would like to ask you which one of that concealers cover melasma problems, thank you I just discovered you and I really love your video I think is very helpful,Saludos desde Mexico
@Recharging87 If you want personalization, then you should go to mac to get matched to your skin tone. Tell them your issues, too, and they'll find the perfect one :)
This is a bit irrelevant, but you have the prettiest green eyes I've ever seen. (:
But anyways, I really love how you explain the ingredients in the concealers and describe their coverage/texture because it's a lot more helpful than how other people on youtube review makeup. Thanks so much! :D
I've watched this video and the foundation one. I do have a question. What would you recommend for oily skin with dry patches and cystic acne? I cannot find a foundation that will cover. I currently use the Clinique foundation for acne but it doesn't really cover anything. Plus I have very fair skin I have no idea what I should be using.
@belovedangel1220 Mac has supperrrrr full coverage foundations, so I think you should go to mac and ask what would be best to cover it.. Everyone's different
@o0oTATo0o For REALLY dark circles I'd start looking into skin correctors with concealer. I'll be doing a video on them but in the meantime, do a search - I know that Enkore just did one on skin correctors a few weeks ago that's really good.
I went to my Mac counter and asked for a good concealer with high coverage because I have realy realy bad ass blueish mixed with greenish under eye curculs. So the macwoman gave me select cuver up and says that this is the highes coverage. But you sad that this is just a light- medium coverage. Can you recomment me a good one?
@MakeupBuddie It might help a little but, I generally think that it's better to apply concealer over foundation though. Otherwise you just wipe it off when you apply your foundation.
You had me at the first 50 sec of watching. You're straight to the point and actually know how to talk professionally so that I can trust your advice.
What do you know about MAC's return policy if you broke something? I only owned the prolongwear concealer for a few weeks, and didn't use it very much. I wasn't even sure if I liked it-the rep. sold me NW20 and I thought it was too dark-then one day, I dropped it on my bathroom tile floor and SMASH! Glass and concealer everywhere! :( Do I have any recourse here? Will they at least accept the remainder of the bottle as a back-to-MAC item? Thanks!!
@WithItness When I did my big MAC foundation overview video I actually dropped a new bottle of their Select SPF15 foundation - Right out of the box it just went BAM! Hit the floor and there was glass and makeup everywhere! I called the next day and told them what happened and they sent me a new bottle out right away - 2-day shipping, no charge and didn't ask for the broken bottle at all. I ordered mine on-line but I'm sure stores have a similar policy. Call where you bought it from and ask :)
Awesome video!! I always have this problem though...don't know what to do.. after only about an hour or so after applying my makeup.. I get the blackness of my mascara under my eyes..(Clinique High Impact) Grrr!! I've used all kinds of concealers.. all of them high end! MAC...Benefit...Clinique..even Dior!! AND I use MUFE HD powder to set it... Help!
@Shannybabe1000 Bottom lashes? Sounds like the fault might lie with your mascara, not with your concealer. Try switching that instead of shuffling around all those concealing products. Is that a waterproof mascara? Bottom lashes benefit from waterproof mascaras - It helps to prevent transfer.
so in regards to the shade, im using NC42 studio sculpt foundation, and im wondering what shade of concealer to get ? also NC42? one shade lighter or one shade darker ?
@ForestBreeze personally i always think it's best to match your skintone. unless you're doing skin correcting or more theatrical (or drag) makeup and want to build in a highlight for certain areas, just match your skintone. it'll look the most natural and the best for everyday wear :) PERSONALLY my concealer is just more of my foundation! lol :)
you are awesome!!! I have used Studio Sculpt but don't particularly like it under my eyes, and I have serious dark circles along with fine lines, i'm going to purchase the pro longwear concealer and the Sheer Select concealer as well (this one would be great when i'm on vacation and don't want to haul a bunch of stuff...i love double duty products!Thank you! :)
I bought the ProLongwear 2 months ago because the salesperson recommended it. I love the coverage but hate the pump as well. So I pumped the whole thing into an eye dropper type bottle. Now I am totally happy with it :)
@JourneyKat75 there are a few videos on youtube that discuss how to cover melasma. re: these concealers in particular, any of them would work - depending on how severe the hyperpigmentation is. for example, some people can cover discoloration with foundation alone. first decide if you have a liquid/cream preference, then if you need really heavy coverage. i recommend asking for samples at a counter so you can try out a few products at home and compare them... to see what works best for you :)
@missmakeupfrenzy Honestly, you're going to have to test things out. If you're sticking with MAC, look at Pro Longwear just because it's so long wearing. But everyone's skin is so different... I did have Jay test out Pro Longwear though and he's got very oily skin... It lasted all day on him :)
Thank you for making this video! It was extremely helpful! I'm in the market for a MAC concealer and you have pretty much answered all of my questions! Thanks again! :)
I have no problem at all with the Pro Longwear pump. I purchased it expecting to have to depot it but i'm able to just pump out a tiny (perfect) amount. I place the front side of the pump hard against my knuckle so that the knuckle acts like a 'stopper' and won't allow the pump to go down fast. That way I can completely control the amount of product that comes out.
Which one of these would you think would be the best to use for both moderate undereye circles AND minor acne? I've never actually used bought concealer before, mostly because I don't want a lot of products rattling around my makeup kit, but I think its time to invest in a concealer for bad skin days lol
Could you use the studio sculpt concealer for the under eye area? I know that the studio finish concealer creases horribly if it's used under the eye. I've been using the select cover up for a while now, and it's great but it doesn't give me enough coverage, so i've been thinking of switching to the pro longwear or the studio sculpt.
@ThatGirlRheRhe MAC's website doesn't say whether or not Pro Longwear is waterproof. It's definitely water resistant I can tell you that from using it, not sure about waterproof though. If you find that studio sculpt is creasing then I wouldn't bother with Studio Finish - I'd go straight for Pro Longwear and see what you think :) Better yet - Stop into a MAC and pick up some samples of both of them to try out! :)
awesome review! If I was using a very sheer foundation such as Mac's face and body foundation would the studio finish be good to cover what the sheer foundation doesn't?

My favorite is the Mac ProLongwear concealer because after 8 hours of dancing & sweating, my makeup will look exactly the same! I have 2 questions though:
1. Mac concealers tend to oxidize on me in the summer (I'm an NC45ish) & turns ORANGE. Is there another brand of concealer that you would recommend?
2. Have you ever tried combining them to get a different consistency? (i.e. a layer of ProLongwear 1st then Select Moisture?
Also, I tried saving excess in an empty vial but it dries out

for the pro longwear I just put a tape around the pump stoping at a certain point and it controlled the amount of concealer that came out :D

Dusty,
I just bought prolong wear and studio finish concealers.

Recharging87 8 months ago
@Recharging87 If you want personalization, then you should go to mac to get matched to your skin tone. Tell them your issues, too, and they'll find the perfect one :)

This is a bit irrelevant, but you have the prettiest green eyes I've ever seen. (:
But anyways, I really love how you explain the ingredients in the concealers and describe their coverage/texture because it's a lot more helpful than how other people on youtube review makeup. Thanks so much! :D

Which has a higher coverage...select moisturcover or select cover-Up? And also do you think they'd both work well with covering redness? Thanks!! =)

I've watched this video and the foundation one. I do have a question. What would you recommend for oily skin with dry patches and cystic acne? I cannot find a foundation that will cover. I currently use the Clinique foundation for acne but it doesn't really cover anything. Plus I have very fair skin I have no idea what I should be using.
belovedangel1220 8 months ago
@belovedangel1220 Mac has supperrrrr full coverage foundations, so I think you should go to mac and ask what would be best to cover it.. Everyone's different
makeupbygeena 8 months ago
So what would you reccomend for dark under eye circles?
o0oTATo0o 8 months ago
@o0oTATo0o For REALLY dark circles I'd start looking into skin correctors with concealer. I'll be doing a video on them but in the meantime, do a search - I know that Enkore just did one on skin correctors a few weeks ago that's really good.

I went to my Mac counter and asked for a good concealer with high coverage because I have realy realy bad ass blueish mixed with greenish under eye curculs. So the macwoman gave me select cuver up and says that this is the highes coverage. But you sad that this is just a light- medium coverage. Can you recomment me a good one?

@AliceBingham Yes, go with the Studio Sculpt instead and Pro Longwear is a good foundation. It photographs well and lasts a long time.
dustyohunter 9 months ago
You mentioned that the Studio Finish Concealer has high amounts of titanium dioxide, would it matter if you wore over/under your foundation?
MakeupBuddie 9 months ago
@MakeupBuddie It might help a little but, I generally think that it's better to apply concealer over foundation though. Otherwise you just wipe it off when you apply your foundation.

Hi Dusty!
Thanks!!
WithItness 10 months ago
@WithItness When I did my big MAC foundation overview video I actually dropped a new bottle of their Select SPF15 foundation - Right out of the box it just went BAM! Hit the floor and there was glass and makeup everywhere! I called the next day and told them what happened and they sent me a new bottle out right away - 2-day shipping, no charge and didn't ask for the broken bottle at all. I ordered mine on-line but I'm sure stores have a similar policy. Call where you bought it from and ask :)

Shannybabe1000 10 months ago
Awesome video!! I always have this problem though...don't know what to do.. after only about an hour or so after applying my makeup.. I get the blackness of my mascara under my eyes..(Clinique High Impact) Grrr!! I've used all kinds of concealers.. all of them high end! MAC...Benefit...Clinique..even Dior!! AND I use MUFE HD powder to set it... Help!
Shannybabe1000 10 months ago
@Shannybabe1000 Bottom lashes? Sounds like the fault might lie with your mascara, not with your concealer. Try switching that instead of shuffling around all those concealing products. Is that a waterproof mascara? Bottom lashes benefit from waterproof mascaras - It helps to prevent transfer.
dustyohunter 10 months ago
@dustyohunter Awesome!!!Thanks for the tip.. I will be trying it out!
Shannybabe1000 10 months ago
so in regards to the shade, im using NC42 studio sculpt foundation, and im wondering what shade of concealer to get ? also NC42? one shade lighter or one shade darker ?
ForestBreeze 10 months ago
@ForestBreeze personally i always think it's best to match your skintone. unless you're doing skin correcting or more theatrical (or drag) makeup and want to build in a highlight for certain areas, just match your skintone. it'll look the most natural and the best for everyday wear :) PERSONALLY my concealer is just more of my foundation! lol :)
dustyohunter 10 months ago
you are awesome!!! :)
pathu32 10 months ago
I bought the ProLongwear 2 months ago because the salesperson recommended it. I love the coverage but hate the pump as well. So I pumped the whole thing into an eye dropper type bottle. Now I am totally happy with it :)
equus418 10 months ago
which concealer would you recommend to cover melasma?
JourneyKat75 10 months ago
@JourneyKat75 there are a few videos on youtube that discuss how to cover melasma. re: these concealers in particular, any of them would work - depending on how severe the hyperpigmentation is. for example, some people can cover discoloration with foundation alone. first decide if you have a liquid/cream preference, then if you need really heavy coverage. i recommend asking for samples at a counter so you can try out a few products at home and compare them... to see what works best for you :)
dustyohunter 10 months ago
and by a couple of shades lighter you mean ghastly white, right?

hi! i was just wondering which concealer you would reccomend for someone who had oily skin and wanted the fullest coverage possible?
thanks! (:
missmakeupfrenzy 11 months ago
@missmakeupfrenzy Honestly, you're going to have to test things out. If you're sticking with MAC, look at Pro Longwear just because it's so long wearing. But everyone's skin is so different... I did have Jay test out Pro Longwear though and he's got very oily skin... It lasted all day on him :)

alinamarie7 11 months ago
I have no problem at all with the Pro Longwear pump. I purchased it expecting to have to depot it but i'm able to just pump out a tiny (perfect) amount. I place the front side of the pump hard against my knuckle so that the knuckle acts like a 'stopper' and won't allow the pump to go down fast. That way I can completely control the amount of product that comes out.

which is most "waterproof"?

Which one of these would you think would be the best to use for both moderate undereye circles AND minor acne? I've never actually used bought concealer before, mostly because I don't want a lot of products rattling around my makeup kit, but I think its time to invest in a concealer for bad skin days lol
BlackSinner17 1 year ago
Could you use the studio sculpt concealer for the under eye area? I know that the studio finish concealer creases horribly if it's used under the eye. I've been using the select cover up for a while now, and it's great but it doesn't give me enough coverage, so i've been thinking of switching to the pro longwear or the studio sculpt.
Also, is the pro longwear waterproof?
ThatGirlRheRhe 1 year ago
@ThatGirlRheRhe MAC's website doesn't say whether or not Pro Longwear is waterproof. It's definitely water resistant I can tell you that from using it, not sure about waterproof though. If you find that studio sculpt is creasing then I wouldn't bother with Studio Finish - I'd go straight for Pro Longwear and see what you think :) Better yet - Stop into a MAC and pick up some samples of both of them to try out! :)
