strangely, I can somewhat relate and understand Shinji Ikari's feelings..

@Stiglitz51 I agree. Look up "Rousseau Was Right" on TVTropes. It gives an accurate summary of the general alignment of everyone on the show. Nobody on the show is truly "evil", their environment just pushes them towards that. The Angels are basically neutral and following an instinct. Even the JSSDF are only "evil" because they're scared that NERV is going to end the world. Hell, even Gendo is a nice guy under all that stone-cold death-glare. In fact, he's more of a coward than anything.

They're nice guys who think they're working for a good cause, but do it in an evil way.

@gaiolinn Well the ending was never really shown on the last anime episodes because they revolved in the protagonists' mind (especially Shinji if I recall), the last episode that was "showing" the chronology was where Shinji killed the last angel. EoE is all about what happens once every angels are dead.

This sequence is damn perfect. Every "camera" angle, every cut, how the characters are staged... The first scene is a fantasy, or rather a nightmare for Shinji as it represents his worst fear: complete and utter rejection. Someone understanding him, calling him out on how he is, and rejecting him for it. Just beautiful.
