Remember--these roles were all that was available to these actors at that unenlightened time. We can't fault them for making a good living when others were just getting by. Willie made enough money for his family with roles such as these.

I don't know why any of this has to be about Black or White.
Mantan was a man, with an amazing talent & he went after what he wanted.
I will never remember him as a black man, I will just remember him as a man who made me smile & laugh. Same as Willie. That kind of talent doesn't seem to be around much anymore.

Mantan Moreland was a comic Genius. I saw in Charlie Chan and the Dark Alibi and was extremely impressed with his talent and superb timing. He was brilliant.

In Mantan Moreland's defense, he was not working for the purpose of opening up civil rights doors, which at this time was in it's infancy. But he did open up the doors for african americans to later star in future movies, where as at this time, while he may have been the sole reason to see a movie, he was not ever given a to billing, sadly. He NEVER supported racism, he only worked in what the times allowed him to do.
