a southwest pa jersey wannabe is what i am.. saw the jersey boys in 1976 twice in my hometown, pgh pa at the syria mosque........it was no surprise to see and hear that they were better live than recorded TRUST ME FOLKS THIS AND THE STEELERS WIN IN SUPER BOWL X WERE THE REAL HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BICENTENNIAL YEAR
We played this song @a Battle of the Bands in my part of the country back in '67 and won 1st place group division.. Da crowds were dancing, moving, swaying n singing to d song, they loved it. beautiful song n harmonies, dats Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons...love it...
JUST MADE IT... In 1967 "Tell It To The Rain" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 10 weeks in the Top 100...
The Four Seasons were one of the last Doo Wop groups to have hits, but they weren't left behind. They rose to the top very quickly, but their chart success was hampered by the British invasion. To help them stay on top, they were always experimenting with different instruments to give a little more variety to their sound.
I have most of their records that were released in Australia.
EASILY.....the greatest effort in the entire history of the group....I always likened it to their attempt to do something "sgt. Pepper..or pet sounds" like...very cool song!!!
I remember a great parody record by "Nikita the K" from radio Moscow which included a knock-off of this called "Tell It To The Snow" by the Four Treasons.
Had to come back. Re-listened about 30 times. Start with that hammering drum, then go on to the pure basic beat, background mood. It all gets me. Add to that the "haunting" pull of the violins. these guys knew how to grab hearts. I have to now say that the group was alone in style, and pure genius.
Don't you all LOVE the 4 Seasons? They made for some very special times for me as a teenager growing up on the New Jersey Shore at the time of these hits. In this one, for me, the rising violin accompaniment (several times) is an emotion-stirrer. There is a great short interlude too. Actually, every song I listen to is "the best" when I hear it, LOL. But thank God I was planted smack in the middle of it all, age-wise. Money can't buy that.
I agree. This is also one of my favorite songs. Brings me lots of great memories. Please check and listen to this song in its best original quality in page 35 of carlusha. c o m written all together. There you will find other gems of those days! and their related pictures. It's like opening an old box of great surprises.
Thank You a million times for uploading this classic song! I have been looking everywhere for it! I couldn't even find it on I Tunes! From what I can see, you have the only original studio version upload of it here, on YouTube! Incredible!!!
Speedy45rpm, I agree with you. To be honest, my favorite 4 Seasons' song always changes. I loved Sherry, Ronnie, Big Man in Town, O-Connie and Bye Bye Baby too. Like I said, I loved everything that they ever released. In the later years they did songs like Toy Soldier, Silence is Golden, Come on Marrianne, and Let's Hang On. The list is endless. I even liked their disco years. Thanks for be being such a supported 4 Seasons fan and sharing your thoughts.
To Speedy45rpm, I was referring to the Vee-Jay labeled album. This was the first record that I ever purchased. Do you remember Dick Bartley's "Solid Gold Saturday Night", a nationally syndicated oldies show. He used to play one or two notes and you had to guess the song. I knew "Tell It to The Rain" immediately and won a CD and "Who wants to Be a Millionaire" package. He said that he went through a lot of calls that were wrong before I came through with the correct answer.
@46razzledazzle Yep, we are talking about the same album. Funny. And I sure do recall Dick Bartley's show -- nice you won the CD! "Tell It To the Rain" is surely one of their best, although the competition is tough -- "Big Man In Town" and "Bye Bye Baby" are also two of my favorites, although there are so many to choose from it's hard to narrow it down. Also on that album, besides the hits, were songs like "Connie-O" and "Silver Wings" and "Soon." Great body of work.
I can still remember seeing the Four Seasons when they played a dive in Keansburg, NJ. I remember the lady across the Street from Sheehan's( the bar they played in) was cooking up some veal and fried pepper sandwiches for them to feed these hungry Italian paisanos. I knew they would be great! This was way back in early 60's. They were the good old days for sure!
I'm passionate about the music of the sixties and seventies. My first record that I ever purchased at the age of 14, in 1964, was the Four Seasons Greatest Hits Vol. !. I think this is my favorite song by them. I know that this song wasn't on that album. Just saying that I have always loved the Four Seasons.
@46razzledazzle Funny you should say that about the album. If you're talking about the one on Vee Jay -- the one that had the gold record on the cover -- that was also the first 33 I bought -- along with "Surfin' Safari" -- in late 1963. What a wonderful time for music, and the Seasons have always been at the top of my list. They were just a bit too "mature" to get the audience screams, but that didn't stop anybody from buying their records. I agree that this is one of their best.
@46razzledazzle I have That album too,You seem to be the same age as me, My memories of 1964 are a treasure to me, I beleive i have Every song that came out from Aug.to Dec.of '64, And most from there on. All my 45's are in wood crates right now, I recently took them out to convert them to mp3's. Now everything I have is on CD.

They are one of the reasons why I consider the 60's as the greatest decade in Rock & Roll history.
