  • Very great!!!

  • amazing!

  • danke.

  • gotta take a dump, but... can't.. press.. pause!!

  • 1981 I saw him in Düsseldorf, it was my first concert ever and it was the best ever! What a great music.

  • Who the fuck is Carlos Santana???

  • 4:40... passion... I now every note... listened to this music thousand time I guess...

  • What an exceptional mix ...that transcendent music together with simple accoustic guitar and defenitely irish female voices! Mike Oldfield was far ahead his time so it seems ...for today it's what calmes our stress away into ripples...

  • the way she looks at him while singing is so sexy

  • @silu81 Meeting Mike would turn me instantly into a gay

  • Das war noch Musik. Genial und in der Lage zugleich Freude und Trauer auf das gleiche Level zu bringen.

  • király zene

  • Eulipious: I have but two words for you: I concur.

  • mystic

  • I discovered Ommadawn when I was fourtheen i 1975 and for me Mike es the best musician I had never met.

kisses from Spain and I hope to assist the next concert.

  • Ommadawn, Tolkien and an old single malt= Good life!!

  • @Matshoppahulle My God, nobody could put it better than that! Best Wishes.

  • Absolutely brilliant! I sooooo enjoyed watching this!

  • interesting bluesy riffing.... great upload, very rare, thank you. Love this album

  • Dobry kurwa w chuj !

  • DIOS EN PERSONA, MIKE OLDFIELD

  • 'Mike Oldfield'...(and another master).. 'Rory Gallagher' we're both left out of The Rolling Stones Mag's...top 100 guitarists of all time list. Go figure.!!

    Rolling Stone...the magazine for kids.!!

  • @aussieangie He's a fantastic guitarist, worth a top 10 in that kind of list, but he's so much more than just a guitarist. He's a whole musical universe alone.

  • @SpirallingSkies

yes, anything is a whole universe to a pot filled brain

  • I have just discovered this Live Concert, wonderful!

  • If he would have had a Rick Wakeman there ...

  • Thanks for the explanation iagobroxado, that makes sense. I figured there was a reason but for the life of me couldn't figure it out!

  • HEUREUSE de redécouvrir encore et encore....j aime cet accord entre musique et ressentiment.

  • music from another universe!!!!!!!!

  • Can someone explain why Maggie Reilly holds her hand up to her right ear? At first I thought she had some device or earpiece in her hand but I don't see anything. Then I thought she might have been stopping her earring from clanking.

I'm sure there's a reason so if someone can clue me in I'd appreciate it.

  • @pursang833 She could be so absorbed in the music she isnt aware of what her hand is doing? Loved Ommadawn for over 10 years now. Tubular Bells to Incantations are Timeless

  • @pursang833 experiment pushing one of your ears forward when you sing, you hear your voice more accurately (closer to the way other people hear you voice).

  • @pursang833

Sometimes if singers can't hear themselves on stage they do that so that they know if they're in key and what they sound like. Bizarre I know, but true.

  • Sencillamente extraordinario

  • i think 10 people like justin beaber and some other shit so they dont even know real MUSICIANS...

  • et tout ça seulement avec de vrais instruments ....

  • @surcouf98

A l'époque ils faisaient 'avec'... La musique électronique à largement de quoi faire...et Mike ne s'en prive pas!

  • about 30 years ago, my wife and me went by train to the old Jugoslavia with bagpacks and tent and always "whistled" our special theme at the end of this song.

Happy, that we still whistle this nowadyay, which proves nothing but much.

  • Wow! amaaaaaazing video!

  • Mike almost smiles @ 5:31

  • prawdziwe cuda trwają wiecznie. ech miałem wtedy 4 lata. Świat M O poznałem duuuużo potem. Ten wczesny-> instrumentalny Mike nadal kopie pozdrawiam

  • This was conceived over 35 years ago, and it's still accessible today. What more can you say.........

  • OMMADAWN....For me , this musical piece holds the magic fairy dust. I always get inspired by it and is my personal favourite.

  • When he performed in Ottawa I was fortunate to meet him in person, get an autograph( somehow lost the paper he signed that night) and got invited to his party after the show;I missed the party for the boyfriend.Wish I hadn't ! Mike Oldfield is truly a magician with his music; it never fails to transport me into a realm of creative imagination. My best work evolves while listening to his music.

  • it's a miracle, not music - magic !

  • y said real nice poioF... but some music never die like this

  • incredible, loved it from the first moment I heard it, and always will.....

  • Well, im thirdteen and i listen Mike oldfield. I wish that it will be more at my age that listen him...

  • @york222ful Introduce Mike to your friends, they will either not understand and laugh at you or they will like it. It just depends on how mature your friends are.

  • At 6.02 is the best part, what a crossover into a faster tempo,it made me dance!

  • Even if he does make mistakes, so what? It's his music so he can interpret it and make mistakes in it wherever he likes. Absolute genius. Watching this makes we want those days back, when MO still had it in him. Nowadays, he seems resigned to being an old man.

  • this man was a super talent at a very young age allready.i never get tired of listning to him. he is my al time guitar hero

  • talk about raising one's inner kundalini, yaw, this music doth straighten the spine

  • This is great! The fact that he has Maggie Riley singing too gives this version of Ommadawn a new kind of atmosphere :)

  • one of the best songs ever!

  • Masterpiece !!!

  • LOL the ppl who disliked this are either higher level geniuses or simply stupid.Which one?

  • Simply a masterpiece !!!!!

  • what an amazing talent

  • I absolutely love the sound of these performances, it's just too bad they didn't know how to shoot stuff back then... they weren't familiar with the music and didn't design the shots, hung on the wrong parts for too long while more interesting stuff is happening elsewhere on stage... but still fantastic to listen to.

  • MASTER OLDFIELD.

  • I can gaze hours at the screen , listen to this !

  • This guy is a genius, what the hell happened to the legacy of the old school???'

  • Sloppy playing by Oldfield. He must be nervous, because the lead is up and down in speed. Riley has problems following him...

  • @NAANsoft -The only thing that's sloppy... is your hearing. He may be nervous, but fair go... it's far from sloppy playing mate.. This is an incredible version. I think it's better than the studio version. Mike Oldfield is at his most masterful (RAW)...when his LIVE on stage.

  • @aussieangie : Sorry, my hearing is OK. Notice around 2:30 - 2:45. Definitely errors. However the main problem seems to be the bass rytm. Notice around 3:20 - 3:30. It's getting better when the overall setup starts around 4:20 and when the tempo itself accelerates a bit around 4:45.

  • @NAANsoft : MO keeps the rhytm but swings a bit. It is a bit unusual way to create tension, he keeps the rhytm of the synth. Maggie realized it. Well, it may sound awkward for a second, it is true, but not sloppy.

  • Oh My GOD. I'm listening to this track 10th time today and I'm still like in heaven... other world... betwen clouds, stars, planets ! Far away, on the other side ! This melodies are epic, masterpiece. MIKE, WE WANT MORE !!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing love it :)

  • he was sooo young

  • Beautiful music!!! and sad at the same time :(

  • say what you like about tubular bells, this is oldfield's 'seminal' poiece in my opinion

  • I love the new 5.1 mix that Mercury has released.

  • I also think this is very spiritual and kind of from somewhere else, interesting that even Mike thought so in his autobiography.

  • Quie simply Mike Oldfield can do no wrong with me.

  • ESTA CHULA

  • great music im from isrel and i use to listen 2 him when i was 16yo

    i love his music

    pure music

  • Heaven ,earth...stars ,clouds...university.....Oldfield ...eternity!!!!!!!

  • The first record I put on when I was a kid....After all these years with loads of great music I still think that THIS was one of the biggest moments I had!

    So sweet,dreamy,melancholic,vivid!

Thank you for uploading it as a live track!

    5/5

    cheers from Germany

  • @fliesenfuzzi

infantile cartoons would be one of the greatest moments for your brain seeing that you're only using about 0.01 percent of your neurons!

  • @forbeliculus Apparently 0;01 % of our neurons work better than all yours !

  • @birth46day

I think Ommadawn represents the ironic cry of all those people who would walk around in pain if ignorance would hurt! The very people that Oldfield has duped for years, people on whose naivete, and lack of culture and lack of education he built his big success (oh and their love for intelligence retarding drugs)!

  • @forbeliculus Nice. Explain why now. I want to see a sentence you didn't plan monthes ago.

  • @forbeliculus How do you "dupe" anyone on matters of taste? Taste is subjective and if he's found a market for his product, more power to him for giving people something they want. If you don't like it, why listen? Why comment so hatefully, imposing your judgment of what you think people 's tastes should be?

I'm not a drug user, nor do I lack education, and I find his music to be very contemplative.

  • Masterpiece of beauty

  • brilliant piece of music. timeless together with live registration of hamburger concerto of focus are the best pieces of music of you tube.

  • He is seriously the greatest. I love all his stuff!!! Amazing ans has serious talent like the rest of them.

Mniejsza częstotliwość, większa amplituda i byłoby super.

  • @BluesmanPoland słucham go od 73roku i nigdy się nie zawiodłem na jego talencie .jestem mu wierny jak pies i bronię go przed powtarzaczami

  • Amazing! Just a masterpiece!

  • What an outstanding performance - 5*

  • Epatha tin plaka mou!! Entiposiastika aniperthetws kai ypervolika!!

  • Excellent! Till all the(30) years a music I always want to hear.

  • I think Ommadawn was written specificly for this time, these days. It`s the cry of Nature!

  • @birth46day

  • so beautiful

  • great!!! 4:28 headless drummer )

  • Wczesny Odlfield był genialny... Masakra, w pozytywnym tego słowa znaczeniu.

  • @swinki33 Boski wręcz, a ja dopiero go odkryłem.

  • splendid

Einfach genial.

  • Whos that playing keyboard?

  • It's Tim Cross.

  • Keyboard Cat.

  • beautiful composition, always loved it. I wish I could have been in the audience to hear it live. I love the way the music holds attention and then moves on to a distinctive but not unrelated section.

  • Beautiful version of my favorite Oldfield's piece.

  • what a genius

  • @3melrose You're wrong ! The GENIUS ! ! ! (Except Frank Zappa, of course) ! ! !

  • LONG NAILS? Beautiful masterpiece.

  • eart win and fier dat album

  • Artistic music ! supereb

  • This one really cut my breath half to the air... Simply fantastic, there's nothing more I can say!

  • Best part is from 5:20 :D

  • Because Mike Oldfield's 1973-1983 back catalogue no longer belongs to EMI/Virgin. You might find still remaining copies in some shops. It now belongs to Universal and was announced to be re-released by the end of 2009. Let's wait and see.

  • Hey paulsbreakfast,

What continent do you live on?

If you live in North America or Western Europe you should be able to get this by special ordering it through the customer service counter at any REALLY good BOOKSELLER that also sells music (Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc. etc. etc.)

  • I remember listing to this album in 1985 when I was eight years old. It was the first Mike Oldfield album I ever heard. Over and over again I played it imagining my self on a carribean beach some place. Then I'd open my eyes and look around my horrible south london room.

  • genius musician

    thx 4 upload

  • good music. this is issomrthing else this album.. love it..

  • This album is constantly in my car CD player and I can listen to it over and over and over and over again. And each time I find it fresh, exciting, exhilarating, sad, funny and triumphant.

  • ...

  • I must hook up my old stereo.

This album helped me through a tough period of my life.

I listened over and over. it is also great for getting the right mood for reading Tolkien.

If you like Hergest Ridge: Boxed has a much better mixing.

  • Totally agree - LOTR and Hergest Ridge/Ommadawn - perfect match

  • that such koolness happened in the 80's...how did the planet keep it's tilt, fellow zanies?

  • Loved Tubular Bells, always playing it alongside Hergest Ridge. Then this appeared. Even better, superb music and something I can listen too all day long. Beats the modern rubbish in my humble estimation, but there again I am much older and wiser now!

  • such raw talent....unexpected and INTENSELY unusual in this day of boybands and lipsynching on 'live' shows..

  • i dont know but it looks like Mike Oldfield is crying.. Well i can understand him because this Music has so many great emotions.. Just awesome.

  • So horny ... horny,....old but sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo horny :-)

    Better is not

  • This music is allmost better then Tubular Bells :) Just Awesome Performance..

  • i turn on the radio, pop music, beyonces and rhianas. . .them i get home, open itunes and listen to ommadawn. . .and I realize, I think i was born on the wrong generation .. these are the real pearls of MUSIC, orchestrated by Mike Oldfield when he was no older than 21, and still unbelievingly inspiring. An immortal masterpiece.

  • That's right, today's music industry has turned in wrong way, totaly trashy and show oriented :(

  • @poioFumegante , I think I am not wrong if I say that I feel exactly the same as you.

  • @poioFumegante

His music is spiritual in the truest sense, uplifting, inspiring, universal, and emotional. His are the works I would grab out of a music library fire - and I have a very wide taste in music.

  • @eulipious i would do the same

  • @poioFumegante i love him and i love beyonce and rhianna, guess that makes me a time traveller

  • @poioFumegante good comment. Music of today is garbage..intended to sell and then discarded like fast food wrappers. It has zero depth. Music like this can transport us to another time and place.

  • @poioFumegante i think the same way every day.

  • 5:51 Such a good expression! "WTF!"

  • Les souvenirs d'enfance remontent !

  • 5:20 !

  • Some of this music when listened to produces a feeling of another world. Kind of like you could find yourself somewhere else in the universe in a different dimension perhaps. Then when the female vocals start you think, is that siren calling me or an angel?

  • @Delticola Mike IOldfield has said that much of the music from his early career came from somewhere else, as if it was channeled through him. If you read his autobiography, he was an emotionally tortured being then, more so with his sudden worldwide success. The genius then had a lot to do with the deep pain he was feeling, and he later worked on himself and healed. But his later music never reached the same otherworldly genius...

  • @Srayliji Yes, I believe it may have been channeled. A shame he wasn't able to quit continue with such absolutely phenominal music. Sure he continued in his talent but this is just as good as music on earth can be. Even tubular bells is not quite as magnificent.

  • @Delticola yea isn't that great, that's what his music does, i call it the magic of mike

  • @Delticola

u are in a parallel universe it seems honey!! stop smoking pot and get wise!

  • @mrfitness2008 The closest I've ever been to drugs is a few milligrams of caffeine from a 12-20 ounce coca cola beverage. But if marijuana is or was your drug of choice more power to you.

  • @Delticola

No i didnt imply that i took drugs, but you! What you wrote sounded like you were off your head.I only take caffeine too thanx.

  • @mrfitness2008 I'm sorry that you have not yet truely found how marvelous this music is. You don't have to be on drugs to appreciate the beauty of this masterpiece. 34 people however so far enjoyed reading the comment and could relate to the comment so perhaps I'm not a crazy drug enduced youtube watcher like what you accuse of me. But I will be more cautious however in the future not to come across as such a "pot head."

  • @Delticola

Look it is marvellous and almost as good a Hergest ridge. am massive fan of Mike and have every cd of his..my favourite is Hergest ridge and also songs of distant earth.i also know where he got th opening of tubular bells from,,,it simle played a number by Bach backwards.

I am a geat fan ..probably more than you could comprehend.

    Ever heard of Sallyangie???????????????

  • @mrfitness2008 Have not heard of Sally Angie but I will investigate. I like Hergest Ridge also, but find Ommadawn affects me more, as in really affects me, like it stirs something really deep inside me. I guess if it doesn't do this to other people then it might be because I heard this music as a little boy. Like age 4. It's imprinted pretty hard on me.

  • Musica de dioses.

  • this music is unbelivable fantastic

  • join de club!

  • just as i thought it was over .. got that cute bit at the end i love it............hooked on mike oldfield, hes full of suprises

  • he still had to write that precious piece - wife or no wife - who - ya ! - lol !

  • The music of a billion dreams.

    Lovely..

  • Ommadawn is easily a better album then tubular bells. No doubt about it.

  • GENIUS

  • when the music was music

  • mike oldfield's emotions are lost in his music...you can see it startin at 4:38

  • masterpiece....nothing else to say!

  • How retarded can the man on the camera be? He is filming walls, the back of the keyboarder, the stage and so on while everyone wants to see how mike is playing. HELL ! This is a guitar genius, i dont give a damn about the "Mike Oldfield" Logo in the background while Mike is playing his ass off !

  • I had the Mike Oldfeild 'Boxed' import lp set which like everything else I owned was lost in a house fire in 1984

  • Still a masterpiece

  • I love the part from 5:17 till the end.. it's so unique in this show and the solo is just amazing

  • lol i love that to:P i always go to that part its soooo...fairy tale:P but really cool:P 5:17

  • BRAVO! Check out Pat Metheny too!

  • of course 5/5

  • omg @5:40

    devine.

  • Eerily beautiful, truely divine music. Ofcourse a multilayered masterpiece such as Ommadawn truely comes to it's own in a studio, but this is a very good performance of it nonetheless.

  • for me, not "the best guitarrist".

he missed a lot of notes when playing in 3 or 4 live concerts that i have seen.

i have seen 4 ommadawn performs and he only plays well the solo in one.

but, dont argue with me! i think he is a greeeeeeeeeeeat composer...

i think he can't play ommadawn perfectly, but he is a total genius just cause he composed it, and this album reveales the quality of his perceptions and feelings, if u catch it :)
