  • That Buick really *is* a beaut.

  • this was made when we actually still made stuff in the USA not China or Mexico...and people made REAL money.

  • "Better get her in the kitchen, quick!"

  • I need a driving coat

  • does any of those cars of tomorrow have GPS?

  • Just wanted to note Pat Primo is a Hispanic designer still in business

  • This is how I live today!♥ How did they video my life??

  • i love her

  • Strange vibe like it's hypnotizing You I've seen that vibe in some other mid century film stuff sketchy

  • tthe OTHER one

he electronic highway of the future

  • I would give my left hand for one for thous cars!

  • I love old stock footage! It's so dreamlike and fantastic.

  • 6:38 is the fabulous Pontiac Club de Mer concept car, from the 1956 GM Motormama traveling show. 300 HP engine, fully-rotating front end with hidden headlights on the back side. Deigned by Harley J. Earl, the godfather of concept auto design.

  • Ah, the glory days...their perception of "The World of Tomorrow;" ...amazing how the future turned out to be so...different.

  • I want that oven that frosts the cake for you and sticks in the candles!

My kitchen is from 1959, and doesn't have any of this stuff!

  • i like that dress

  • "I would like a new Pontiac...NO, you can't have it. I would like a new Oldsmobile...NO, you can't have it. I would like a new Saturn...NO, you can't have it. I would like a new Hummer...NO, you can't have it!" "Oh my, what do I do?"

  • @bigdukem69

Have a Chev! The future of GM where all the cars became Chevys. LOL!

    Is it a Buick? No, it's a Bu-Chev!

  • It´s amazing how old fashioned music wil be in the future.

  • I find the naive optimism of the 50s very funny, considering they were right in the middle of the Cold War.

  • Its sickening isn't it in that ironically its hardly any different than the country we live in today...

"Everything is fine there is no war or recession, take a few Tylenol and go back to bed".

    "Also keep consuming!"

  • Gorgeous dress.

  • The man's voice is just GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!

  • And yes folks, this will be your the sun-tanned happy world of tomorrow...unless the communists win! =P

  • Funny how the ladies walk in those day. It's like they walk on air, unlike the heavy set dinosaurs that seem to be pulling their weight along while slurping diet cokes these days.

  • ouch, what part of the world do you live in lol

  • She's not walking, she's doing ballet.

  • I loved it!! ♥

    Thanks for sharing!

  • that was actully pretty good

  • What's sad is that I can riff along to this...

  • aah i just love this times, i wish i could have lived at that time.

  • its like they came in my house and filmed it.

  • man everything was an ad back then. If they endorsed it, they really got thier advertising! I've been watching these types of videos all day!

  • This is a childhood memory from long ago. Really fantastic & stunning stuff, the perfectionism of post World War 2 austerity binge. Beautiful gowns and houses, cars with big fins or from the future. Then my parents were young and glamorous, my mother crowned as a great beauty and fund raiser, my father a body builder and athlete. If only we had a time machine to secretly go back and relive this time which was really mostly fantasy. Like a Douglas Sirk, Ross Hunter movie, we can only dream of.

  • It always reminds me of the cover from a Roxy Music album; I could see bryan ferry as Prince Charming.

  • Roxy Music! You're so right. I just made a music video using this advertisement (you can see it on my page) but didn't even think to use RM. Avalon would have been perfect! Back to the drawing board I guess!

  • Rockin'! I didn't know LSD was so popular in the late fifties.

  • It sure was. Just google "Project MK-Ultra" sometime.

  • In the 50s, you could get lsd prsecribed to you if you knew the right shrink...Cary Grant did it and raved about it in interviews.

  • Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of the narrator, was Tony the Tiger's voice.

  • This futuristic oven bakes a cake, frosts it, sticks candles in (without melting them) and lights them?!?! Hey, Frigidaire, I'm still waiting for it... Oh, and while you're at it, make me a stove that knocks the crusty bits off the surface once I am done cookin.

  • this was used in peter gabriel's 'in your eyes' video, and just found out. in that video, the effect pg evokes is entirely different than this silliness. ironic, too funny

  • If I'm not mistaken, this was written by the author of "The Wild Party", Joseph Mancure March.

  • The Wild Party was a poem written in 1928, and many books and movies have been derived from that poem. The subject matter was very radical in 1928, and I have not actually ready it. I understand that there have been some fairly recent musicals based on the original poem. They were not terribly successful. I would suspect that this video was not actually written by Joseph Mancure March, but I would love to get more input on this. I wish there was more real data for this film.

  • Carolyn Jones?? Kooky!

  • The actress is Tad Tadlock, but she does look like Carolyn Jones (best known from the Adams Family TV show).

  • I would swear that the roads near the end looked like a slot car track [how cheesy]

  • You are right. It reminds me of the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland where you fly over the city. I'd be curious to know how those miniature cars on tracks move in this film. Maybe a flattened chain maving under the road... and a pin sticking down from each car to latch onto that moving chain (like on the up hill start of an old roller coaster). Cheesy... for sure! I love it. Put it this way: Mechanical miniature cars pulled around on glittered roads with car designs of the future? Amazing!!

  • Im pretty shire it is afx track I remember the little guard rails on the track and the supports and you can see the slot for the pin that was in the bottom of the cars. But it was not mine and it was a old set I saw some ware maybe for model railroading.

  • @force311999 c'mon, it's 1956

  • this film has been excerpted hundreds of times in so many documentaries about cars or technology or the future, but i have never seen the entire thing before.

  • Why does this remind me of West Side Story? except for the lyrics of course, "I want a Corvette." Well, so do I , honey. The girl is hot, but strange.

  • Great film! Love the concept cars!

  • This is one very fun video! I enjoy seeing Tad Tadlock very much, and the visuals are great! I know this is a cheesy video, and that it reflects an era that ended long, long ago. Still, it seems as if it visually influenced such shows as The Twilight Zone and Batman. I first saw this on Classic Arts Showcase, and enjoyed it very much!

  • Hey,that's where i saw it also, about four years ago!i could not get it out of my mind.

  • Hey Lady!! Your apron's showin'!!!!.... Genius x

  • I think that this is great with and without the MST3K version. It`s only flaw that I can see is that it is a snapshot of pre veitnam life and possibilities. The paradigim shift occoured with the assisans bullet peirced JFK`s skull. We no longer have the innocence that they had when this film was made.

I am glad that MST3K did this peice because it shows the generation gap between the baby boomers and their parents, in living color.

  • When GM was the biggest corporation in the world, the Japanese built transistor radios, and people actually looked forward to the future.

  • hysteriaaaaaaaaaa!

  • the past has lied, the futue sux

  • I wish I was alive in 1950s America, it looks so perfect!

  • I am laughing so hard there are tears rolling down my cheeks!

  • Stepford wife !!! Better check her back for a battery compartment.

  • better get her into the kitchen quick! hahahahahha
